We enjoyed our stay in the cabin. It was nice having the extra space and a full kitchen. It made for a relaxing week as a base for hiking in Kings Canyon and Sequoia. Paige was accommodating of our requests and was kind enough to turn on the evaporative cooler for us late in the afternoon so it wasn't quite so warm when we got home.Recommended for: Age 55+
Owner response: Bob, Thank you for choosing the "Cozy Cottage Getaway"!. Please stay with us again. Paige

We stayed at this cottage in August of 2012. The cottage is darling, very clean and with a well-equipped kitchen. The listing accurately described the cottage and the owner, Paige, was very friendly and helpful. Despite the excessive heat during this time period, the cottage was comfortable. Kings Canyon was a short drive away and was much cooler. We would definitely recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a quiet, peaceful setting.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

The cottage is a good location for visiting Kings Canyon and Sequoia. There didn't seem to be many rentals closer, at least not with cooking facilities. It is close to the road and there was traffic noise but ear plugs took care of that. Layout is a little different and there is a lack of closet and dresser space, but we found a way to make it work. The deck is nice and it was pleasant to sit by the creek behind the cottage. Kitchen is equipped with everything you could possible need, and was very clean. Paige was helpful and although she lives on the property it was never a problem and we could not see her home from the deck. You do need to shop before arriving as there are no grocery stores close to the cottage.Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you Judy for reviewing our property, I really appreciate it! The closet is located in the living room and there are shelves in the living room too. There is a small shelf in the bedroom. This cabin was originally built in Grant Grove during WWII. After the war it was cut in two and brought down the mountain to where it stands today. I live in the same type of cabin. A bit of history to these old cabins! The cabin has been redone, but the closet remains in its original location. We try to make sure the kitchen is well stocked with cooking utensils and cookware. We also take pride in the large trees and rock garden and trail to the creek and keep it maintained at all times. The total acreage of the property is approximately 30 acres, with 2 being assigned to the cabin. The back neighbor has 115 acres so the only neighbors are my husband and myself. We love to garden, but we keep to the other side of our cabin out of the sight of the guests most of the time. Paige

My wife and I were looking forward to a quiet place to enjoy the parks on her 50th birthday weekend. The cabin was clean and nice, but it was hard to get much sleep with the barking dogs nearby and the incessant stream of traffic noise. From the description it sure sounded like this place was off the road. Yes, off the main highway, but Dunlap road is only yards from the cabin and carries traffic at all hours! We were almost in two accidents just trying to pull into and out of the blind driveway! Dining and kitchen windows as well as the "private" deck look directly over at the owner's house. It's billed as a "writer's retreat" but, as a writer, I would find something that was truly private and quiet. From now on, we're going to ask for more accurate details and some guarantee of peace and quiet before booking. Sorry to say, we were disappointed and will not return.Owner response: As you can see from previous reviews, we have never had a review less than 5 stars! I am sorry that the cabin did not meet your expectations. Thank you for commenting how nice and clean the cabin is. We do appreciate constructive critisism as it helps us improve our visitors experience. We will review the description of the cabin on the website and make sure it is accurate. My husband and I do live on the property, our residence is approximately 250 feet from the cottage. We are a quiet older couple, but we are just a phone call away if you need something! The total acreage is 30 acres, 2 of which are assigned to the cottage. The parcel in the rear is 115 acres. There are no other tenants on the property. My family and friends also stay at the cabin and all love it. Thanks, Paige

If you hate hotel living and want a rustic little place to come home to after a day in Kings Canyon/Sequoia, this is the place! Cabin is fully equipped, comfortable and the deck is the place to be at breakfast. Everything was perfect, easy to find, easy to get back to after a day in the park and SO much nicer than an impersonal hotel room. BBQ grill and full kitchen allow you to eat what you want, no relying on resturants or fast food. Everything was perfect, owner was very helpful, location is great.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Jen, Thanks for staying with us! I hope you will come back again next time you visit the area. Paige

Hi Paige, It was so nice to meet you. Thanks for stopping by. Sorry we didn't get to see you when we left. We enjoyed our visit to your home. So nice to return to a home rather than a hotel room after a long day hiking the trails of Kings Canyon and Sequoia National Park. Your place had everything we needed. I can only guess you are a cook because everything I required was there in your kitchen. We rent homes all the time, most do not have such a well stocked kitchen. It was very much appreciated. I needed a grater (you had 2). I needed a spaghetti strainer, again you had 2. The pots and pans available were just what I needed and in good condition. So thoughtful of you to have such a well stocked and clean kitchen. We never slept on flannel sheets before, they were wonderful, soft and comfortable. I guess living in Florida flannel sheets are not something we would think of. My husband walked around the property and took pictures of your horse, he seemed to be smiling in the picture. He was very curious and looking our way each time we were coming or going. We also took pictures of your beautiful grounds with the trails and bench. We will be sure to tell our friends and acquaintance's what a score your place is. We tried to leave it as clean as when we arrived. Thank you so much for the use of your home. We had a wonderful vacation.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I had a great time staying at this cottage! We went for a long weekend for our one year anniversary and it was great! Paige was very nice and helpful. The cottage was clean and cozy. The kitchen is amazing, very big! It was nice to relax in a place that felt like home. Also, the cottage wasn't that far from the parks. I would definitely stay there again. You can't beat the price. Paige, Thank you for opening your beautiful cottage to me. It was a wonderful, quiet place to refresh for a few days. Your amenities are so special (the shower head and solar lights especially) and well thought out. Your TV system is also quite nice. I know some people are wondering why a TV would be important, but when your by yourself, sometimes it is nice to watch a movie or just have some "chatty" noise. Thank you so much for such a clean, comfortable place. Kendra =)Owner response: Hi Kendra, I am so glad you were able to have a few days of relaxation that you so deserve. Thanks for leaving the cabin so clean and I hope to see you again. Paige

This was the perfect getaway for a longer weekend for us. The parks are gourgeos and the cottage is really cozy and super clean. It also is so well equipped we didn't miss anything. Even children's books were there for our kids. They both loved it. Paige is such a wonderful and caring host. Thanks so much for even bringing us a bottle of ice for our cooler before we left. I recommended the cottage already to a friend right after we were back.Owner response: Thanks Alette, I am glad you and your family enjoyed your stay at the cottage. Paige, I wanted to thank you for making our stay as positive experience. It was extremely hot outside and you did everything you could to make us a comfortable as possible. You were helpful when we had questions. When it is cooler we will plan to come back so we can enjoy ourselves even more. I know it sounds funny having someone from AZ stating it was hot however, us desert rats are not used to the humidity in the area. My suggestion would be to consider buying an small AC unit to replace the Swamp. A small investment for added comfort for the guest. I think the winter would be awesome there sitting by the cozy fire with your family. For all of the guest coming you might suggest they bring mosquito repellent as with little water in AZ we were not prepared for that aspect. This is not anything that reflects on your cottage it is just something in the entire park. Thanks Again! PattyOwner response: Thanks Patty! I am glad you and your family enjoyed your stay at the cottage and days at the park and your day trip to Yosemite. I know it was abnormally hot during your stay. We made some changes to the cooler and it is keeping the guests cool. Yes, everyone reading this please bring insect repellant, you never know when you might need it. I love the fireplace in the cabin and often enjoy the peacefulness at night when I don't have guests during winter months. Tell the family hello and I will see you next time you visit. Thanks, Paige

The Cozy Cottage could not have been more perfect for a long-weekend stay! The raw scenic beauty of the National Park (or the absolutely affordable resort-living price)may be what draws people to the community of Dunlap, but the amenities Paige provides at the cottage make it so comfortable and homey that all you need to bring is food & beverages. It was so relaxing that is was hard for us to leave! We spent hours chatting & barbecueing out on the deck, hiked the picturesque pathways near the cottage, took pictures of everything (the bats are as fascinating as the para-sailors), sat in the stream, and enjoyed every quiet moment away from the fray. We'll definitely tell other friends about this great find, and we'll be back! Thanks to Paige's detailed maps & instructions, we had no difficulty navigating and got to enjoy the local produce markets and hospitality, too!Owner response: Hi Rose and family, You guys were great! I am so glad you enjoyed the cabin and were able to leave the busy city behind for a few days. I am looking forward to your next stay. Your friend, Paige

Paige, It was great to meet you, and Dog too. We had a great time, and your cabin was perfect for us. We were sad to leave, since there is still so much to see. The national park is beautiful, the mountains, the valleys, and of course the trees. It was nice to have a cozy place to return to and watch the parasailors come down the mountainside. Thanks again, and take care, Dave, Sue and Allan.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Hi Paige - Hope everything is going well for you. Just wanted to thank you for allowing us to stay at your cottage. We had a feeling of sadness leaving the coziness of the cottage on that last day. The cottage was truly our home away from home for those few days. We took a number of pictures and videos of the cottage and the path down to the dry river bed. This will help us remember the happiness our family shared during this trip. My two boys enjoyed watching the cartoon shows on the Dish network system and sleeping on the futon bed. I enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the bats flutter around while the sun was setting. Lynda enjoyed sleeping in late each morning and not having to deal with cleaning up the house and answering phone calls. We will all miss eating the fresh fruits that we purchased at Blossom's (thanks for the recommendation!). Our favorite spot in the park turned out to be Sandy Cove (Hume Lake). The boys had a blast catching frogs and playing on a wooden raft that someone had built. It was so peaceful and beautiful there. We were also fortunate to see a mother bear and her cub in the Crescent Meadow area. Perhaps one day we will be fortunate enough to visit your cottage again. Mahalo and Aloha, Carl, Lynda, Marc & RyanOwner response: Hi Carl, Lynda and kids..lol.......I enjoyed having you as my guests and I am so glad you enjoyed yourselves. It makes all the time and effort that I put into the cabin so rewarding when I hear comments like yours. Please come back soon!! And thank you so much for the pictures you took while you were here! Take care and keep in touch, Paige Price

Paige, Your cottage is warm, cozy, and a great home away from home to return to after long days of hiking in Kings Canyon and Sequoia! You've done a great job with all of your personal touches-the big, fluffy, fresh towels are the best! And the deck is a great place to wind down after a long day. Thanks again, Dan, Alice, Amy, Alan.Owner response: I'm glad everyone had a nice thanksgiving weekend and I enjoyed having you here at the cabin. Come back this summer for white water rafting!! I had no idea what to expect... WOW!! what a great place. I think I took 5 years of stress out of my system in the first hour. Page is a wonderful and VERY helpful host, willing to answer the most minute question, she is great. Anyway, about the cottage. Very clean and rustic. Great detail to the charm and there is LOTS of charm. It is so cozy my wife and I sat on the pourch and marveled at the natural setting for hours. The view was really nice and there is so much to do so close to the cottage. This was our first visit to Kings Canyon but not our last. The only bad thing was having to leave...but we will return!! I highly recommend this vacation cottage and I assure you, you will not be disappointed. Thanks again PageOwner response: Hi Joel & Laurel, I told you that two of the best kept secrets in California are Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, which are located south of their overpopulated cousin, Yosemite. These two parks are hidden treasures as you found out. I'm glad you enjoyed the cottage and hope to see you again soon! Take care and thanks for leaving everything so clean...... Paige
