Have you heard about Jeremy Cay on Edisto Island? It is a private gated community with 2.5 miles of private beach on the Atlantic Ocean, with sandy roads, lots of natural trees and wildlife.
The beachfront house is nestled among oak trees with Spanish moss and it seems you are all by yourself in the world. The interiors of the house are paneled in natural pine with lots of high ceilings. The large screen porch is great for your meals or just spending time relaxing with a good book.
Jeremy Cay residents enjoy 2.5 miles of beach with inlets to the north and south. There will be times where you will be the only one on the beach. There are nice sandy roads for walking and bike riding. You will enjoy Jeremy Cay's outstanding marsh views and spectacular sunsets.
Wildlife - The deer tend to come out and feed at dusk. The dolphin (often in pods of 10+) are best seen at low tide from the 2nd floor sun deck. Loggerhead turtles nest on the beaches with thousands of hatchlings each year. Many species of birds can be seen near the lagoons and open marsh lands. Of course, fishing in the lagoons and ocean, and crabbing are always fun.
Off Island - Historic Charleston is only a 35 minute drive away with some of the best restaurants, cultural entertainment, and historic sites in the Southeast. Edisto Island has a rebuilt 18 hole golf course just minutes away. Kiawah Island is on the way to Charleston and boasts 5 world class golf courses and more restaurants.
Historic Savannah and Hilton Head are close and make great day trips. Edisto Beach is 5 minutes away with more restaurants, shops, and boat rentals. Fresh Farm stands and seafood markets are near by for that a great low country boil.

Lovely home, FANTASTIC BEACH

Our family stayed at this home in the fall of 2010. Jeremy Cay is my new favorite beach! The house, while it was very comfortable was a bit dirty. It just needs, and may have had by now, a really deep cleaning to remove sand and cobwebs in the corners. Other than this minor inconvenience we had the most relaxing time staying here. A real retreat.
Recommended for:Girls getaway, romantic getaway, age 55+.

My family and I recently stayed for a week at Clara's Treehouse in Jeremy Cay and had a wonderful time! I do however have a bit of pros and cons: PROS: Very close to the beach ... just minutes walking time from either path (beach access path right or inlet access bath to the left The Jeremy Cay neighborhood is just divine. We have stayed here one other time and loved it even more this time around. It's even better if you can rent a golf cart to explore the neighborhood and beaches. Going down to north side of the beach, Frampton Inlet - the end of the beach all the way down til it ends when you go left at the end of the beach access path - is SO much fun. We found wonderful treasures such as conch shells, sand dollars and even a piece of an old china from the lost village! It's so peaceful out there. Beach is wonderful and quiet and very natural. On our last night, the boys ventured out (WITHOUT FLASHLIGHTS OR A CART) and saw TWO loggerhead turtles come to and from the ocean to make their nests and lay their eggs. SO COOL! House's screened porch is wonderful especially when the tree frogs and bugs are out singing their nightly serenade. Ahhh. Love the outside shower, especially with the hot water. Very affordable for young families who want a beach vacation somewhere peaceful and in a nice area. CONS: The house is NOT maintained well at all. We encountered a plethora of carpenter ants in the master room in which the couple staying in that room had to stay off site somewhere because it was so bad. I will say Edisto Realty did answer back in an orderly fashion .. after calling three times. We also saw many cobwebs and those should NOT be there ... period. Also, on our third night, we lost water pressure completely. We did hear back from Edisto Reality quickly on this issue and we had to "reset" the purification tank. It eventually did come back on but tasted and smelled like salt water... well because it was. We definitely did not like that it was water from a well and that should be stated on the website. Also, the kitchen is very small and there is no pantry so we had to put all of our groceries between four families on the countertops. Needless to say, not much prep space. I hate that there were so many cons due to the house, but if those issues were cleared up, it would be a wonderful house to stay in! We LOVE Edisto and Jeremy Cay and will be back again .. maybe at a different house.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children.
