Villa Zatarra is a newly built property situated on Mahogany Drive, Cap Estate, St.Lucia.
Whilst enjoying the cool Atlantic breeze an early riser may see the sun rise from the ocean above Cotton Bay and the beach, known by locals as Cas en Bas. Close enough to see the morning dew glistening on the fairways and greens of Cap Estate Golf and Country Club and the kitesurfers out in the bay.
Villa Zatarra, (meaning “driftwood”), has recently been re-designed and re-built by the owner who is also one of St.Lucia’s celebrity artists, Rob “Zii” Taylor known for his smooth sounds on the sax and now showing off his other passion in the artistic design of Villa Zatarra alongside his St.Lucian born wife, Veron who can be credited with the beautiful and harmonious flow of the interior design and décor throughout the villa.
From the moment you arrive at Villa Zatarra you are greeted through large wooden gates encarved with the emblem of the artist owner. A short gravel driveway surrounded by lush landscaping leads to a rustic hideaway villa filled with calming Indonesian accents, warm earth tones, stone walls and floors, and not forgetting that cool Atlantic breeze…

We’d have to say that this is the best kept secret on the island. Peaceful, beautiful, and convenient location. We loved waking up, going downstairs and opening up the villa to beautiful scenery, a great breeze, lush tropical landscaping, the sound of the waterfall into the pool and great coffee. We didn’t make many plans so every day was an adventure for us. We’ve stayed in the resorts on the island and one of the many things we loved about Villa Zatarra was the privacy. Very clean, the kitchen and barbeque has everything you could want or need, you could even ask the owner’s to have fish brought in or go out and catch it yourself to cook there. Mary, the housekeeper always snuck in to clean up behind us, provide ample fresh towels, and even fresh flowers on the pool deck. There is so much to do in the immediate area and we didn’t even get it all done. We visited the beach at Cas en Bas as well as the little beach bar at the Cotton Bay resort. While we didn’t get to kite surf because of time, we certainly got to watch some. We’ll definitely do it next time. We also spent time at Pigeon Island both on the park side and with the locals. From Pigeon Island, we also walked into the Sandals Resort which was cool until you consider there’s a ton of people there. We spent several evenings at Cap Maison to watch the sunset, after watching it come up in the bedroom of the Villa. Rodney Bay Marina area is so cool. We did lunches, shopping, a deep sea fishing tour and a half day sail out of the marina. There’s a cool sunglass shop called Blink that carries all the best brands, we just couldn’t resist. We spent a good bit of time in the Rodney Bay area from restaurants to shopping. We also spent some time at the beach at the Landings resort and were fortunate enough to catch Rob Zi playing one early evening. Highly recommend you catch his show somewhere if you can. If available, get the car rental option as it was really convenient to run down to Jacques on the water for lunch. The owner’s, Rob and Veron, also provide a very reliable pick up service and guide for the island if you need a tour, have questions, want a tour of the island, or even just a quick ride anywhere. The owner’s were so very genuine, hospitable, and always offering any level of service or help you may need. We’ve been all over the Caribbean and the Villa Zatarra ranks as one of our top vacation spots. Just as the song says, There’s Nothing Like This. We'll do it again.Did you find this review helpful? What a great house! We loved the layout and Veron (owner) is amazing; whatever you wish she can make it happen. We also enjoyed meeting her family and listening to her husband, Rob Zi, play at one of the local hangouts. If you need transportation Dave aka Big Runner, will gladly take you anywhere. We enjoyed the beach at Smugglers Cove and it was minutes away from the house. We ate almost daily at Elana's at the local Marina. They have the best coffee, gelato, and pizza in town! We went diving 2 days in Anse Chastanet. It was incredible and do travel by boat to see the island; Veron will arrange everything :) Mary the housekeeper cooked a delicious homecooked meal for us one evening. Our only regret is that we just stayed a week and St. Lucia is so beautiful and the people are so friendly you will want more time to enjoy all they have to offer.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

First, the pics did not accurately describe this property. The villa is so much more beautiful then what you see on VRBO. It is very romantic and private. If you want to get more out of your experience then just the tourist spots but be close by to Rodney Bay with markets and shopping then this is a perfect place. We cannot say anything more that has not already been said about the owner Veron. We were provided a cell phone so Veron could check on us and basically felt like she was our concierge servicer We were provided tee times and pick up for the golf course which is in walking distance. Pick up services for various fun outings although we had been provided a car with the villa. I will elaborate more on tripadvisor but for now this home is a gem set among many palatial homes belonging to ambassadors from around the world. We loved it! And this is by far to us the best area of the island. We are in our 50s and being in this location is a bit more upscale then others. If you get a chance to see Rob play the sax take up the opportunity. He is very talented and Veron and Rob are such good people and wonderful couple you will feel you are leaving friends behind.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We loved Villa Zatarra! It was so open and breezy, clean and beautiful! Veron was a fabulous tour guide and the use of the car made the vacation perfect as we were able to drive everywhere. We had the most amazing time in St. Lucia and a lot of it was due to our stay at Villa Zatarra! It is an amazing villa inside and out! So open and airy and bright and clean. Veron (the owner) was so helpful showing us around, arranging for David "Big Runner" to take us to and from the airport and arranging for the use of the car was perfect - we drove everywhere! Don't be intimidated by driving - it only takes a day to get used to getting around. And Mary made our beds and straightened up for us every day so we were truly on vacation. When we come back to St. Lucia we will definitely stay at here again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My partner and I both stayed at villa Zatarra for one week in March. The view from the Villa is gorgeous and we enjoyed relaxing by the pool.The owners were helpful and on hand at any time we required their assistance. The villa is spacious and the master bedroom and bathroom are lovely. If we did not go out to eat, the kitchen has everything needed to prepare meals. The villa is located in a fairly quiet area with a beach a 10 to 15 minute walk. We hired a jeep with help from Veron and Rob (owners) to explore the island. I recommend the villa to anyone wanting to get away and relax but also have the option to go and see the island life of St Lucia, We will definitely be back to visit the villa again.Did you find this review helpful? When we entered through the mahogany wooden gates, the sound of the waterfall spilling into the pool set the perfect tone for a relaxing vacation. The owner was there to greet us with a warm smile and a chilled bottle of wine. The website photos do not do enough to show the calming decor, or capture how the room layout finishes and colors flow together. The master bed and bathroom are exquisite - especially the private terrace that overlooks the green golf course which is offset by the blue waters. A great spot for morning coffee or an afternoon nap on the hammock. Though not as grand as the master, the second bed and bathrooms exceed that of any fine resort rooms. If we did not go out to one of the fantastic restaurants for dinner, the kitchen has everything needed to prepare a fine meal. We would eat outside with some candle light while listening to one of Zi's jazz records. The owner took time to drive us around Cap Estate and Rodney Bay to show us the various beaches and restaurants. After that, we used the SUV to explore on our own. Veron was also very helpful with booking tours, and would always follow up to make sure things we're going as planned to make sure our trip was just what we wanted. The last notable little perks provided by the Villa are wi-fi, coffee maker and cell phone. Villa zatarra was amazing and made our vacation perfect. My wife, my 5 yo son and I stayed at Villa Zatarra for 3 weeks in January 2012. We paid a reasonable extra and rented the jeep of the owners. We are "discerning" travelers, I would even say difficult ones in the sense that our standards are high. I will not repeat here all the nice things written in the previous reviews, but I will only say that they are all true, and more. Quite frankly, compared to other options on the Island (luxury hotels or similar villas) this particular property offers a really great ratio quality/price and, as a bonus, the owners are quite helpful whenever you have questions or special needs.Did you find this review helpful? Villa Zatarra is everything the other reviewers say it is. It's a beautiful home, and it did feel like a home, and it is in a great location. It's away from what business there is in St. Lucia, but it is an easy drive into Rodney Bay. We rented the 4x4 from Veron, and she was so kind to drive us around showing us where the stores and restaurants were. Thank you Veron! We had a relaxing vacation, making most of our meals at the villa which was well equiped. I also agree tha Big Runner (David) was super. He met us at the airport and made us feel very welcome to the country. When he couldn't drive us back at the end of the trip himself, he arranged for another driver who suddenly stopped in the middle of the island. There was David parked on the other side of the road so he could say goodbye to us before we left. We mostly snorkeled, but we did the Segway Tour too and it far exceeded our expecations. The Segways are easy to ride and a good way to get into the jungle a bit and see the views from up high. My wife and I just returned from our destination wedding in St. Lucia. We were very fortunate to come upon Villa Zatarra. It is as nice as it seems and more. The villa is very well kept and clean. The view to the Atlantic is very nice and soothing. We would definitely stay there again, and hope to very soon. Veron was extremely accommodating and very helpful with anything we needed. She and Mary (the nicest housekeeper in St. Lucia) went above and beyond with everything and had very nice touches to make the special time for my wife and I that much nicer. With the villa on the northern part of the island, driving is necessary if you want to venture into town or other parts of the island. Veron works with a local cab driver and he was fantastic. Bigg Runner (David) was super accommodating and was a lifesaver when it came to shuttling our wedding party to the ceremony. He was our guy when it came to going somewhere, just call him and he was there shortly. David was nice enough to call us when we got home to ensure that we had a good time and made it home safely. All in all, we would recommend this to anyone that is interested. Some of the wedding guests came by to visit and all of them loved it! It is a very relaxing villa and you can't go wrong. We hope to visit again very soon! Thank you Veron, Mary and David!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway.
