Why the Owner Chose Sayulita
Sayulita is perfect for us! The weather is great and the beaches first rate; it's a bustling small town that is safe, and where we have made a surprising number of friends with north americans and locals alike.
Sayulita is a safe town with easy access from a major international airport on the west coast of Mexico, that of Puerta Vallarta. The airport terminal building abuts the highway; one can easily cross the highway using an overpass, and catch either the bus (about 20 pesos per person) to Sayulita or a taxi (about 450 pesos). Local stores carry all the basics, and good shopping is available nearby in Bucerias and Puerta Vallara.
The Unique Benefits at this Casita
Our home in Mexico is a restful place; we limit guests and visitors, insist on damage deposits, and enforce 'quiet hours' (except for the local roosters!) It has over an acre of landscaped gardens (supervised by Enrique, a local arborist), a great pool, extensive views, and a quiet setting overlooking the town plaza. The homes are well built and well kept.
Built as a neighbourhood project in 2006, these concrete stairs provide all weather access to the plaza and downtown.
A bustling place that is the heart of Sayulita; taxi stands, restaurants, grocery stores, bakery, church - everything is centred here
Great local baseball here on Sunday afternoons, some Friday nights there are dances for the local young folks.
A small gathering area, with benches and a shady tree, at the entry to the downtown.
Three story building with the largest local store on the main floor, and Calypso, a large and popular restaurant overlooking the plaza; these businesses are operated by brothers.
By far the best seafood in town,in an unprepossessing restaurant on the second floor, a local bar popular with the young folk on the 3rd floor.
A local landmark, great north americal style breakfasts, open for dinner during high season; the operator is a retired school principal and a well-known local leader
'Gina's' furniture store; a great place for keepsakes. The gym upstairs is topnotch; ask about the celebrities that visit from time to time.
Owner's Map of Sayulita
JoAnn and I are from Saskatchewan, and moved to the west coast of Canada in 1989. We have been enjoying family vacations in Mexico since 1995, usually on the Pacific Coast side, to which flight connections from southwest British Columbia are easiest. We enjoy beach areas and prefer staying in a house or apartment rathern than hotels and resorts.
We have three grown children, and wanted a property where we could all gather to enjoy holidays together, and as a retirement spot. We purchased the Caracol property in 2007 and have since renovated it to meet our family needs. When we're not there, we enjoy renting it; we've met many wonderful people who come as guests.
