On Molokai you have the opportunity to experience Polynesia in a way that has been lost on most other Hawaiian islands. Aside from the resort enclave at the dry west end, the rest of the island truly feels more related to its sister islands south of the equator. Most of us like it like that. No chain stores, no houses
taller than the palms. Only one road, and our rush hour is over in a few minutes.
We hope you will enjoy and respect the island and the type of life here, and that you will appreciate and support the good people of Molokai.
The Wavecrest resort has the only condominiums on the southeast end of Molokai. It is 13 miles from Kaunakakai, and about a 20- to 25-minute drive. As you head east from Kaunakakai you will notice the vegetation getting more luxuriant. By the time you pull off the two-lane road at mile marker 13 you will have entered the "tropics" and be welcomed by the lush landscaping of the resort.
The resort is on five beautiful, landscaped, waterfront acres. On the grounds there is a pool with cabana, tennis, two gas barbecues, and plenty of room and lounges for just plain relaxing. The pool and cabana are located right on the oceanfront. There are three, three-story, main buildings. There are mostly seasonal owners, so it is rare that there is ever full occupancy.
Our unit is on the east end of the second floor of the only oceanfront building. There are two bedrooms, one bathroom, and an oceanfront lanai. The ocean is only a few feet from the building. There are remnants of Hawaiian fishponds along this shore.
This is one of the only shores in Hawaii with a barrier reef. The reef keeps the waves down so there is generally calm water in the foreground with the reef break about one-fourth-mile off shore. Maui, Kahoolawe, and Lanai are in sight across Pailolo and Kalohi channels. On a clear day, we've seen the big island of Hawaii. From January to April, Humpback whales return to these waters between the islands. They are often seen right off shore. It is a great place to kayak.
The unit is nicely upgraded with quality tile and furnishings, perfect for relaxing or entertaining. The kitchen has all the amenities: oven, microwave, stove, coffee maker, dishwasher, etc. It is perfect for stays of a week or longer. Because it is an end unit, in addition to the lanai, windows in the kitchen and bedroom allow the trade breezes to help keep the rooms cool.
The bright and cheery kitchen is complemented by an island bar for casual serving or a dining table for more formal meals. It is fully upgraded with new appliances. The cupboards are fully stocked for all your cooking needs.
Enjoy your first cup of coffee of the morning on the tiled lanai as the sun rises over Maui.
