Enjoy vacation with us along the Emerald Coast of the Florida Panhandle at El Matador Condominium. Located on over five acres amongst palm trees and beautifully landscaped grounds are six unique styled buildings, each with its own private balcony or patio. Looking to the south is a view of 1320 feet of sugar white, sandy beach and the Gulf of Mexico. To the north is the inter-coastal waterway and the shoreline of the city of Fort Walton Beach. And, to the west is a Federal Reservation, with miles and miles of untouched beach. We always start our day out walking the beach here. On the days we spend the entire day at the beach we rent beach chairs from the vendor by El Matador.
Our condo is decorated in golds, reds & browns not your typical "beachy" condo. We remodeled the kitchen & Living Room last summer (2007). Its nice being at the end of Okaloosa Island, it seems to be more private here.
When you dine out on Okaloosa Island you will have many choices. Make sure to visit Old Bay Steamer. This is one of our favorite restaurants on the Island; we dine there often when we visit. They offer steamed seafood by the bucket full, lobster tails, snow crab, king crab & shrimp are the contents of one of their buckets for two. They also offer pasta & steaks for the non-seafood lovers.
The original Fudpuckers Bar & Grill is located on Okaloosa Island too. They opened in Fort Walton Beach on Okaloosa Island in 1986 and have become a favorite for visitors & locals alike. The playground is a hit with the younger ones & everyone will enjoy the live music.
If you are looking for Mexican fare, try Los Panchos on Amberjack Drive. They offer authentic Tex-Mex Cuisine, for take out too...
Pandora’s Steakhouse is just across Miracle Strip Parkway, they offer steak, seafood & prime rib. Pandora’s is the Emerald Coasts oldest family owned & operated steakhouse specializing in USDA choice heavy western beef & the freshest of local seafood. They also offer a Wine Spectator award winning wine list. More about El Matador 246...

While in Ft. Walton Beach make sure to visit the Gulfarium & the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier. The Gulfarium has dolphin shows throughout the day & the fishing pier is fun to try to catch your dinner. If you didn't bring your fishing gear, don't worry. You may rent a rod & reel at the pier. I enjoy watching the dolphins from the pier.
You will enjoy shopping & dining on Main Street in Ft. Walton Beach. I always find great clothes for my niece at Hugs & Hissyfits. She enjoys going to the FOCUS center at the end of Main Street when she visits us. It's a hands on science/technology center.
If you forgot your bathing suit or just need a new one for the trip visit Alvin’s Island just across Miracle Strip Parkway on the left.
While visiting Fort Walton, Visit Destin too. It's only a few miles away...
Enjoy great shopping at the Destin Commons and pause for a bite to eat at the Hard Rock Café, Panera Bread, Tony’s Ristorante, or Sushi Siam. More than just shopping, the Destin Commons Center Plaza offers a soft-play kids playground and a 49-head pop fountain. Community activities and entertainment are held through the year at Destin Commons. Rave Motion Pictures is also housed at Destin Commons to catch the latest releases.
Baytowne Wharf at Sandestin Golf & Beach Resorts offers wonderful dining and specialty stores as well as great festivals & events that are held at the Market Shops Green or the Center Plaza within the Village.
The Track Amusement Center in Destin, Florida offers mini golf, Water Bumper Boats, go-carts & for those not faint of heart, Bungee Jumping.
Big Kahuna’s Water Park is a favorite for young & old alike. Take a break from the wonderful Destin, Florida beach & spend the day here.
Destin, Florida is known as the ”World’s Luckiest Fishing Village,” & boasts being home to the largest fishing vessel fleet in the state of Florida. You can fish from the beach or boat. If you do not want to bring your boat, one of Destin’s many charter boats would love the opportunity to take you out for full or half day excursions. Water surrounds Destin with the intercoastal waterway to the north and Gulf on the south, creating an abundance of water sports available, including kayaking, wave running, parasailing, kite surfing, snorkeling and so much more! |
