Much of the area has a large mangrove behind so is a natural haven for all kinds of wildlife, especially birds. Manatee Cenote (a fresh-water sinkhole) is located just a short walk down the road.
So what can you do? You can lounge in a hammock or walk the beach, sunbathe, bird watch, go kayaking, diving, fishing, and snorkeling, gaze at the stars, or do nothing at all. The location is convenient to numerous day trip adventures. People like Tankah because it is a step back in time, away from mainstream tourism and back into the roots of the tropical experience.
