Perfect for families or groups or weddings. Enjoy a glorious lakeside setting with 120 feet of lakefront and a big lakeside deck for splendid outdoor living. With spacious private grounds on a beautiful West Shore point, the historic 1910 Tahoma Boathouse offers sunrise to sunset panoramic views over vast Lake Tahoe. A lovely 'early Tahoe' home, it offers a unique experience blending luxury, historic charm and lakeside living. Far from the main road, no traffic noise will intrude. Just steps from the lake a huge hot tub seats 8 people. Buoy available for your boat or swim raft.
Live the early Tahoe glory days of the teens and twenties! The boathouse was part of one of Lake Tahoe's earliest estates, constructed beginning in 1906. Authentic antique details and decor embellish the original wood paneling on all walls and ceilings throughout the house, with a tasteful mix of antiques and fresh furnishings. Stone, oak, cherry, and newly carpeted floors; four antique wood stoves. The home has lots of space with several view-filled living areas, a large country kitchen/dining room, and the wrap-around deck on the upper level; and three bedrooms and an attached 1 bedroom apartment on the lower level. Two rustic cabins are included in summer, closed in winter.
Spacious forested grounds with outdoor stone fireplace, patio and ping-pong table, level lakeside lawn, and a sand beach give lots of areas for playing and conversing. Relax on chaises on the lakeside terrace above the beach. Gas and charcoal grills for outdoor cooking are on the lakeside deck. Play badminton in a forest clearing and croquet on the lakeside lawn. Feed the ducks and geese from the historic boat ramp that slants into the water.
Appropriate for discerning guests who will appreciate the historic charm of the home. Completely updated with thermal pane windows, insulation, natural gas baseboard heat, and tasty local well water, the house is fully equipped for gracious entertaining. The property is accessed via a narrow lane a block off the main road. The long paved driveway and grounds offer plenty of parking.
Leave your cars--our guests love the short walk to the country market with its great deli sandwiches, groceries and wine selection. You'll find a pizzeria, coffee bar, post office, video shop, kayak rentals, and restaurants in the neighborhood. Hike and bike on trails leading to Sugar Pine Point and Emerald Bay state parks with beaches, national forest, Desolation Wilderness. A meandering paved bike path makes its way along the shore to Tahoe City, down the Truckee River all the way to Squaw Valley. One mile from Homewood Mountain Ski Resort--for fun family skiing with great lake views. Launch your boats in Homewood, and water ski in the calm waters of the West Shore.

Remarks from our guests:
--We love your place! It was our first time in Tahoe and this property really made it a memorable stay. Not only the charm and comfort of your home, but the excellent location and outdoor facilities. We spent many luxurious hours in the hot tub and enjoyed the lakefront and stone fireplace so much! We had some people over that come to Tahoe regularly and they want to stay here the next time they come. Thanks for all of your help with our plans and for the memories!
--We were all so impressed with how thoughtfully the house was stocked with anything that we needed...My daughter's highlight was learning to do the monkey bars (above the captain's beds) all by herself...It was very comfortable and easy to be all together in your beautiful home. You have a spectacular place and we all feel blessed to have experienced being here.
--Another wonderful vacation...It must give you such satisfaction that so many lucky people enjoy this place...It's truly a dream vacation. The highlight of this year was seeing a big beautiful brown bear...Thank you for sharing. (a repeat guest)
--We were here to celebrate the 50th anniversary of our mother and father...we all enjoyed the warmth and coziness of this lovely home. We enjoyed the view, we enjoyed the hot tub, we even enjoyed the big bear that walked through the property on the day before we left! How wonderful it was to be in such a beautiful place for such a wonderful week....Your home is part of a memory that will live with all of us forever.

The Boat House was Amazing! We had our entire wedding party stay at the house starting on the 22nd until our wedding day on the 26th. We woke up every morning to beautiful lake Tahoe. A typical day would include kayaking or paddle boarding for a few hours, lounging in the sun to dry off. Making a simple breakfast and all eating together on the huge deck. Playing lawn games (boys) and leisurely working on wedding details (girls). Most of our family and friends made a long weekend of the event and stayed at the Tahoma lodge, right across the street, so throughout the day family and friends would come over to enjoy the lake, lawn games, wedding details, or cocktails! If we needed a snack before dinner we walked up to the PDQ market for fabulous homemade sandwiches. By the evening we would start preparing the cocktails for the night and making dinner. The deck is perfect for large group dinning, and the kitchen and dinning area inside worked perfectly for serving yourself. We ate as a big family every night! Each night ended with a relaxing dip in the spa. The wedding day.... well it was perfect. There is not many places in Tahoe that you can marry on the lake with the privacy of just your friends and family. We took pictures on the neighbors dock (need to have permission) which turned out so pretty. I cannot say enough about this location for a wedding or any event for that matter. We would have paid double, triple, quadruple the price for staying in such a beautiful place. Lorene, the care taker, is super nice. She even came the day of the wedding and directed guests down to the house and parking (nominal fee). Kristan Flance was so nice, and helpful. She even made note of our wedding colors and planted flowers around the property to coordinate!! How amazing!! There is no other place on the lake like this!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, girls getaway, families with young children, pet owners, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

My family had its Reunion at Lake Tahoe and the Boat House was the perfect location for many of the activities! We had many meals on the deck and a fabulous "dance" party on the upper patio. The views of the lake can't be matched anywhere. Thanks for a wonderful Family Reunion.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The Matteucci Family has been vacationing at Lake Tahoe for the past 27 years and we rate the Boathouse as the best on the lake! It is wonderfully spacious for our large family gathering but very private and peaceful for those who come to relax and enjoy the best view on the lake. Thank you for sharing this special place!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2

This is truly a magical spot, from the magnificent view across the lake to the exquisitely tasteful interior, cozy dining area with lake view, romantic master bedroom and fabulous separate apartment, pot-belly stoves, neat hot tub, and a well-equipped kitchen that would please any gourmet cook. Our family, including our adult children, spent a very special Christmas here: tree and owner's childhood ornaments decked out for our arrival, even Christmas candies (for Santa). Fabulous downhill and cross-country skiing and great mom-and-pop grocery within minutes of the house made our stay even more carefree, as did the attentive caretakers. To top it off, nature obliged on our last morning with a full double rainbow spanning the lake. Can't recommend the spot highly enough for any occassion or in any season. We look forward to returning.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1963
About the owner: Owners Kristen and Steve Flance love boating at the lake, shown here at the helm of the classic Thunderbird. They live in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where they share their home with Yogi & Bear, their Bernese Mountain Dogs. Steve, a native of St. Louis, has many years of experience designing communities, and recently completed the Hills and Villas at Bishops Lodge, a lovely resort community above the historic lodge. He has managed the development of major hotel properties in Santa Fe. Kristen has been in advertising sales with the state magazine, New Mexico Magazine, for many years, and she manages both of their vacation rental properties. She is a 5th generation Californian whose son Adam also grew up spending summers at the lake with his grandmother, Carolyn Hecathorn, who bought the Boathouse in 1963. Daughter Hannah was married at the Boathouse in 2006, in a splendid ceremony by the lake. They enjoy sailing vacations, including bare boating in the Caribbean, and love spending time at their Tahoe haven.
Why the Owner Chose Tahoma:
One of only a few remaining original boathouses at Tahoe, the property was purchased by Kristen's mother in 1963. Kristen grew up helping with its restoration, and Kristen and Steve have continued improving the place with love and great attention to detail. Flower gardens embellish the exquisite lakeside setting, and give us gardening pleasure. We love sailing and boating on the lake, and enjoy barbecuing and dining on our lakeside deck, a lovelier setting than any restaurant on the lake. Fabulous sunsets and starry skies make for romantic evenings listening to the water lapping the shore. Roasting marshmallows in the grand old stone fireplace is a family tradition. Our ancestors began summering at Lake Tahoe in the early 1900's, and Tahoe time continues to be an important part of our lives. Since we have active lives in Santa Fe (and another historic vacation rental there), we enjoy sharing our treasured Tahoe haven with guests who appreciate its unique early Tahoe charm.
