This chalet-style cottage is nestled amid large hemlocks and oaks, facing the western shores of Great Moose Lake. Located in a quiet neighborhood of summer cottages, the peace and quiet is restful and relaxing. The call of the loons is often the loudest sound that can be heard on a lazy summer evening.
The cottage has hardwood floors and pine ceilings. The open concept kitchen/living room has a soaring cathedral ceiling with ceiling fans and the kitchen has a large island that is perfect for inside dining. The kitchen is fully applianced and equipped for preparing meals.
A woodstove takes the edge off chilly evenings but is rarely needed in the summer. The cottage is heated by a monitor heater in the basement, and individual rooms are heated with electric baseboard. There are two bedrooms on the main floor, one with a California king-size memory foam mattress and the other with bunk beds that are twin size. An upstairs loft provides a third bedroom with a daybed and futon. The living room also has a futon that may provide sleeping space. Both the living room and the loft have TV's and DVD players for your entertainment.
A large upper deck provides for outdoor grilling and dining. This entertainment space provides seating around the umbrella table for six. The new lower deck provides shaded seating for siestas on those hot summer afternoons when you have enjoyed enough sun for the day. The lower deck leads to granite steps down to a large patio area. This patio area is surrounded by granite boulders and has a large granite fire pit to roast marshmallows or to just sit by a crackling fire in the evenings.
A set of stairs from the patio area lead down to another deck down by the water. This lower deck enjoys both sunshine and shade, depending on the time of day. There is a large picnic table to either enjoy a meal/snack or play some cribbage while the kids enjoy the water. The lake frontage is crystal clear with a gravel bottom. It's so clear that you can see the bottom up at the cottage. You can gradually wade in from the shore or use the dock to jump in. There are water flotation chairs and lounges so that you can relax in the cool water on a hot summer day and watch the loons swim by. There is a hammock right at the water's edge that is shaded by massive hemlocks and provides a great napping space.
Summer lake activities include swimming, sunning, canoeing, kayaking, boating and fishing. In the winter, lake activities include ice fishing, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Wildlife abounds in the area with bald eagle sightings common and occasional moose visits. The fall foliage with the lake as a background is breathtaking. The winter here is equally beautiful and the cottage is snug and cozy for winter vacations.
Pets are allowed but must be well-behaved (not constantly barking) and not allowed to wander off the premises. Pet waste needs to bagged up and disposed of properly. Pets need prior approval so please discuss situation with owners beforehand.
There are ATV trails in the area. There is an eighteen-hole golf course and a nine-hole golf course within a 10 mile radius of the cottage. There is a village approximately two miles from the cottage that has a grocery store, a gas station, a diner and an ATM. A nearby town has a super Wal-Mart, Pizza Hut, Dunkin Donuts, and various restaurants. |
