Keywords:  Condo

Former residence of noted Herman Miller textile designer and Santa Fe folk art collector Alexander Girard, this wonderfully decorated 2 bedroom suite condo is 2780 square feet with a full kitchen available. The great room and dining area are adjacent to the large portal which affords wonderful outdoor dining and relaxing while viewing the pristine Sangre de Cristo Mountains or the beautiful garden enclosed within the compound walls. Only 4 units occupy the 3/4 acre grounds. Each unit is over 2500 square feet in size with great separation. The common garden grounds are best enjoyed by the unit we are presenting to you here.

The location of Girard Gardens Compound is one block off Canyon Road which is the main gallery location for Santa Fe. In addition to art galleries, several world class restaurants are located within walking distance of the unit. Two parking spaces are provided for your use off street.

The seasons are transitioning to winter and what better place to spend a few weeks than Santa Fe? Skiing is just 20 minutes from Girard Gardens up the mountain. All the restaurants and shops are open as usual and the usual tourist crowds are nil. Common down and see what it feels like to be a local for a while.

Of all the many famous artists and artisans who visited Alexander Girard over the years, Charles and Ray Eames and Georgia O'Keeffe frequented the garden and compound on a regular basis when in town. This was O'Keeffe's "home away from home" when she came to Santa Fe and visited the Girards. From the portal you can view the spectacular skies and the snowcapped Sangre de Cristo mountains or the magnificent Cristo Rey Church. In spring and summer lush gardens within the compound offer desert colors and nature's sounds for a day or evening of calm, quite relaxation. Your own private relaxation area awaits you within the unit's private deck and under the unique portal.

The entire East Side of Santa Fe is the oldest settlement of the historic town. The Santa Fe River flows parallel to Canyon Road which is adjacent to the compound. A short walk has one gallery hopping down one of the most beautiful art roads in the United States. A few blocks farther down and you are on the famous Plaza with all its vendors and great shops and galleries plus places like th Georgia O'Keeffe Museum and the Loretto. Along San Francisco St. are many fine stores and our own performing art center..The Lensic..with something of interest happening almost every night. Downtown has its share of wonderful galleries and restaurants. A new convention center is currently under construction. The La Fonda Hotel brings back the charm of old Santa Fe when turistas came to search out Indian jewelry and crafts. Vendors still line the Palace of Governors selling their wares. The Santa Fe Opera is world famous and is only a short trip north of town near Tesuque. Spending time in Santa Fe is most enjoyable at all times of year. Winter has skiing just one half hour away from Girard Garden. If you travel a short way up Canyon Road to the end you will find the Audubon Society refuge with its 140 acres of space available for hikes.

Owner's Map of Historic Eastside

That's Tom Muller, owner, on the left with his good friend famed Santa Fe sculptor Gib Singleton who is a frequent visitor to the compound. Tom writes music and has an interest in a local Santa Fe recording studio. He also encourages folks to google Gib's work online. Santa Fe has many wonderful artists of all kinds and offers diverse cultural events ranging from the famed Opera, Chamber Festival, Indian Market, Lensic Theatre productions, International Museum of Folk Art and many more. Alexander Girard, famed Herman Miller chief textile designer of the 50s and 60s, originally owned the compound where Tom's unit is and he also was one of the world's greatest folk art collectors. It is his collection on display at the Museum of Folk Art close by.

Wonderful stay in Santa Fe!!

Guest: Mysemite (Palo Alto, CA)
Date of Stay: 08/16/11 Review Submitted: 08/29/11

As mentioned in other reviews, the "condo" is much more - it is a wonderful home with two large master suites. The location, near Cristo Rey Church (which we photographed many times in the various lightings we experienced), is quiet yet only a few minutes walk from the galleries and restaurants on Canyon Road. We enjoyed sitting on the deck watching the lightning over the hills.... We happened to be here for Indian Market (a memorable experience) and the energetic crowds it brought to Santa Fe. But back at the house, one never would have known tens of thousands of people had descended on Santa Fe for all the festivities. Highly recommended.

Texans discover Santa Fe!

Guest: Mary & Ken (Katy, Texas)
Date of Stay: 06/06/11 Review Submitted: 07/09/11

My husband and I spent 10 days in this remarkable home in June. It was everything we had hoped for, and more. The home was spotless, and the photos don't even begin to do the home justice. The rooms in the home were quite large, and the outdoor space was so relaxing in the cool mornings and evenings. We loved sitting out there looking at the church with its beautiful cross, with the mountains behind it. The grounds inside the compound were just beautiful, and we had a wonderful time chatting with the neighbors. The kitchen had absolutely everything you would ever need or want to cook wonderful meals, but why would you do that when there are such wonderful restaurants nearby? Each bedroom is really a master suite, with a large king-sized bed, a huge bathroom and large walk-in closet. The home even has a washer & dryer if you need it. We want to thank you again for providing us with such a perfect place to explore Santa Fe - we will be back! We would recommend this property to anyone wanting to enjoy Santa Fe! It is close to everything!

On behalf of myself, my wife and our guests, I would just like to thank you for helping make our week in Santa Fe exceptional. The house was everything we hoped it would be: nice well-appointed kitchen, great outdoor space, comfortable rooms and roomy baths. Could not ask for more. Would like to be in line to rent it next year again. – Nick Weingarten

We have always had a wonderful time when we go to Santa Fe staying in Unit 3 of Girard Gardens. The grounds are beautiful as well as the view spectacular from the portal. The home itself is wonderfully decorated and furnished as well as conveniently located. I recommend it to anyone considering a stay in the City Different.

We thought it was fabulous & beautifully appointed & beyond our expectations. Wonderful location, private yet minutes from everything. You called it a condo, but it's really a home- very private. We ate most of our meals there because we didn't want to leave (including my kids- that should tell you a lot...).
