Isle La Motte house description
Enjoy your vacation lounging on the deck-over-water or in an Adirondack chair on the private grassy point watching sunsets over Lake Champlain and the Adirondak mountains while reading that novel you've been eagerly anticipating. Paddle, pedal, or walk along the lake using our kayaks, bicycles, or your own feet. Lazy strolls along West Shore Drive are a great and healthy way to unwind. On many Sunday afternoons, enjoyable art & musical events with deeelicious pastries happen in an old barn within walking distance.
This will appeal to couple(s) seeking escape from life's daily grind to recharge with peaceful R&R. .
Fisk Farm, Fisk Quarry, & historical significance: Within a very short walk is the historical Fisk Farm with its renovated barn. On many Sunday afternoons, cozy art and music entertainment await you along with scrumptuous pastries.
Just across the road is the Fisk Quarry...Mother Earth's oldest known fossil reef. Now an historical preserve, stromatoporoid fossils are easily discovered. 480 million years ago their living ancestors were basking in warm waters very close to earth's equator.
For many decades, quarried boulders were rolled on small guage rails over the manmade point, loaded onto Canal Schooners, and shipped south to become Radio City Music Hall and Brooklyn's Bridge. Many more continued their journey southward and were incorporated into Washington, DC's National Gallery of Art. While resting at the Fisk Farm, Teddy Roosevelt learned of President McKinley's assasination attempt. He walked over to 'the point', and awaited transport to Washington to eventually become our 26th president.
Bicycling: Ride for miles with Lake Champlain to starboard, farmland and quaint cottages to port, or vice versa. Except for a couple of minor hills, the terrain is level and flat. During season, farm stands provide mouth watering fresh veggies for dinner. Bicycles and backpacks are provided for your enjoyment and hauling home the vittles.
St. Anne's Shrine: Saint Anne's Shrine, right on the shore of Lake Champlain, is a peaceful, spiritual, and historical attraction, which has been developed and maintained for the past 100 years by the Society of Saint Edmund in Vermont's scenic Champlain Islands. Peaceful retreats are available for personal prayer, and public services are held during scheduled hours.
