Owner Description
Year Purchased: 1979
Bob is Michigan Tech graduate he is retired. He worked for 18 years as a Michigan Tech finance administrator,he also worked as the Internal Audior at the White Pine Pine, Controller of a family business in Minnestoa and as a Edward Jones Investment Rep. Current he is a lay pastor at a Lutheran Church in Phoenix, AZ. Kathy is a retired math teacher. We have six kids and 36 grandkids. Bob's Dad was born in 1903 and grew up on Bumbletown Hill 6 miles from Cedar Bay where his grandparents move in 1900. Somebody in the family has owned lakefront protery at Cedar Bay since 1958 family roots go back a long way.
Why the Owner Chose Calumet
I purchase the property hoping to build a home here, I was an administrator at Michigan Tech for over 18 years. In 1993 I, a 45 year old bachelor, married a widow with 6 kids and moved to Minnesota. We built the cabin as a guest house for our kids hoping someday to retire here and build a passive solar home in the hole on the southfacing hillside. Instead we retired in Sun City, Arizona and I became a pastor at a church there. Therefore, unable to spend 6 months here as we did for a few years we now rent it on VRBO when we are not here.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
We enjoy going sauna and swimming with our 36 grandkids and other kids that come to visit us. Making s'mores on a campfire on the beach for the kids while we watch the sunset and the stars come out. Hikes on the nature trails are always fun.

My husband and I absolutely fell in love with the cabin. A little piece of heaven here on earth! So quiet and peaceful. The cabin has all the amenities one would need, and is very cozy and comfortable. We liked being centrally located to the surrounding areas, short drives into Calumet, Copper Harbor, and the Houghton/Hancock area. There is so much to do & see, and we got our fair share of hiking, biking, long walks along the beach looking for agates. Who could forget the stunning sunsets, and beautiful sunrises. No need for a watch out here! We are looking forward to returning again in the summer or fall. Enjoy!
Owner response:Thanks for the nice comments. In the headline I beleive it should read "piece of heaven", not "pease of heaven." Thanks God bless you Bob and Kathy Pieti owners of #195319

My wife and I found the place just as advertised, peaceful and quiet with a beautiful view of the lake from several perspectives. The cabin was perfect for us, had all the amenities and then some, the rockers in front of the windows was a relaxing spot. The rocking swing on the cliff a great spot for sunsets and the sauna deck perfect for everything. The blueberries were ready and we ate a bunch. A perfect private spot, we only left the property a couple times for provisions and a visit to the brew pubs. This will be a definite repeat for us.

This was our 30th year in a row of the Girl's Trip. No kids, no husbands, just us and rest and relaxation. What a wonderful location for this trip. Cozy and comfy, beautiful views, not to far away from town, but far enough to feel the serenity of the U.P. Stone collecting, sunshine, eagles, and your best friends....Who could ask for more?

The cabin is very cozy! The beach house was fun to sit inside and watch and listen to the power of the Great Lake Superior. The sauna was heavenly and we were even brave enough to run into the lake to "chill off" after the sauna - lots of laughs and a life time memory!! Fun area to explore around, the copper mines and the fall colors were absolutely breathtaking! Peaceful and heavenly retreat. Thank you for sharing your piece of paradise with us!

We enjoyed our stay in your very neat, compact cabin. It was everything we wished for. The eagles greeted us when we came and as we were leaving. Warm days made swimming in Superior great fun. Agate picking was great. Walking on the shore on the morning after a late evening storm the waves were still big and an agate about half the size of a baseball rolled across my foot. It is now a paper weight on my desk. Several other agates were found. Our almost three year old grandson and I enjoyed picking blueberries each morning for our cereal. A special song. "Picking Berries" that we composed was sung as we filled our cups. Every evening we tried to be back to the cabin in time to photograph the fantastic sunsets. The cabana was used a lot when area family and friends stopped by. We flew kites along the shore as the steady winds made it lots of fun. In the evenings we enjoyed a beach fire where we frequently roasted hot dogs , marshmallows and made s'mores . There is something about a beach fire that brings back memories and old stories long forgotten. A wonderful way for generations to reconnect. And so we would highly recommend the cabin to those of any age who love to fall asleep to the crashing waves, enjoy long walks on the beach and appreciate a quiet time to think about the many wonders that God has placed in this world that so often we are too busy to even notice. We hope to be able to come back again another summer.

My husband and I spent a week at this adorable little lake house while our kids were at a Michigan Tech camp. The house sits up high and is beautifully set in the woods, with glimpses of Lake Superior through the trees. A very short walk down a blueberry laden sandy path, and you are at the beach, with a sauna, and cabana right there. The house was immaculately clean, bright, and welcoming. We felt like we had the beach to ourselves; seldom saw another soul out. The town of Calumet is very old and full of history. Loved all the restaurants, coffee houses we tried and people we met. Since you are halfway up the peninsula, it makes a perfect spot to have as a home base and do day traveling up to Copper Harbor, or down to the Quincy mines. There were waterfalls surprising us on every excursion. We would definitely stay again. Must be absolutely stunning in the fall! Thank you Bob and Kathy! Signed, Marie and Jim from Okemos We would love to visit again sometime.

The cabin was exceptional and it was so hard to leave. It was cozy and outfitted with everything that we needed for a comfortable stay. We loved how the house is situated up on the dunes with a beautiful view of the sunsets over the lake. We walked miles along the beach and took a nice hike through Black Creek Sanctuary. The sauna and observation deck made our vacation complete. We sat for hours up on the observation deck just relaxing and reading and enjoying the sound of the lake and the beautiful sunshine. The sauna was a real treat in the cooler evenings. Everything about our trip was perfect and we can't wait to come back next year!

We had the most wonderful time. Everything was great. The cabin was nice and clean. Small but cozy(bunkhouse not included). Works great with little ones. Very private. Some houses nearby, but so many trees you don't even notice. There are books, games, rocking chairs, bikes and the swing looking out over the lake was perfect!!! The sauna was so much fun....loved jumping into icy water (our first experience trying that!). Everything you need to cook (and bake) is there in the kitchen. We had fires on the beach, went on long walks, and had a very relaxing time. It was the perfect spot for day trips...so much to see!! Must see Brockway Mountain overlook. There are waterfalls, a fort, a really old stand of pine trees, hiking, lighthouses, harbor towns, and much more!!! Then come back to the sauna and relax, watch the sunset and have a fire on the beach. Thank you so much....we LOVED it.

My husband and I recently spent a week at this cabin. We had a wonderful time! Very private and near hiking and other wildlife-watching opportunities. My husband loved going in the sauna, jumping in Lake Superior, and returning to the sauna. I just stayed in the sauna! There is very little light pollution, resulting in amazing star gazing opportunities. The cabin is exactly as described. We would definitely return and highly recommend this rental!
