The Captain Chadbourne House is a genuine antique Colonial home. Well-maintained, with numerous original features in spacious, beautifully decorated rooms furnished with elegant antiques, this is a one-of-a-kind getaway. Available in the main house is a two-bedroom suite with connecting bath and a spacious parlor with private entrance, a great rental for families or friends. The Master suite has a romantic 4-poster bed with a cozy pillow-top mattress that has been said to save marriages and a comfortable convertible sofa. The other bedroom has a handsome antique double bed and a loveseat and wing chair. In the anteroom adjacent to the master bedroom are the appliances and an extra queen bed. Guests can also rent just one bedroom with the parlor and private bath; only parties reserving both bedrooms share the bath. We rent to only one party at a time, regardless of the size of the group. Both the Master Suite and the Parlor have working fireplaces, where a wood fire will be laid for a small fee, or guests can provide their own fire logs.
An ample and delicious 3-course homemade breakfast is served daily in the lovely beamed dining room. Since we only rent to one party at a time, we're happy to tailor the menu to your preferences!

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2004
Warren King is Music Director at Christ Church in Kennebunk, and wife Jane is the church secretary and also an architectural historian and researcher. We bought the Captain Chadbourne House because we fell in love with the numerous original Colonial-era features, such as wide plank pumpkin pine floors, Indian shutters in the windows, beamed ceilings, and many fireplaces. We also love to entertain, and the house has wonderfully gracious rooms for guests. We love to cook, too, and we're sure you'll enjoy your breakfasts!
Why the Owner Chose Kennebunk
We love the beach, and we love small town life. Kennebunk is a beautiful historic New England village, with miles of sandy beaches, and plenty of conveniences such as shops and restaurants within walking distance of the house. Lovely beaches are just 2-3 miles away. Kennebunk is just an hour and a half drive from Boston, located halfway between the historic cities of Portsmouth and Portland. The Portland International Jetport is just a 25-minute drive from Kennebunk, and Portland itself is a lively city full of history and culture, as is Portsmouth NH.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The Capt Chadbourne House is just a mile and a half from Maine Turnpike Exit 25, yet right in the heart of the village, an easy walk to restaurants, shops, parks, the public library, the excellent local historical museum, tennis courts, and the beautiful Summer Street ship captains' mansions which make up a National Register Historic District. The Capt Chadbourne House is on the museum's district walking tour! We're also just a short drive or bike ride to several glorious beaches, which we enjoy in every season.

We enjoyed our time at Capt. Chadburne House completely! We were there for 3 nights, and found the historical setting and furnishings so true to Kennebunk. The bed was very comfortable, and the breakfasts creatively delicious. Jane and Warren's hospitality was perfect. Thank you for a great experience.

We had a wonderful relaxing time in your home... The place, the location, all of the sites were what we had hoped for... Thank you so much for extending your graciousness to us... Breakfast was what I looked forward to every morning, and today I was going through widthdrawl... haha. We hope to be back with the family again... Best wishes for you and your B&B.... How lucky you are to live in a place where we only dream about... and your blueberry pancakes will never be forgotten.... If you want to see the trip look on my face book Polly Johnson in my City of Colour album... Thanks for the music we listened to your choir... it was a topper to it all... Take care and we hope to see you again. loves from Arizona... R.Wayne and Leslie and Todd and Polly

We spent a week at Capt Chadbourne house and had a great time. Jane & Warren were wonderful hosts and treated us to great breakfasts each morning. We liked the location of the Bed & Breakfast because it gave us a chance to “run back and forth” between our excursions to the beach, shopping, dining, and sightseeing. Our only complaint is that we couldn’t stay longer! This place truly is “The Way Life Should Be”.

We just returned from our second stay at the Capt Chadbourne and were just as delighted as we were the first time we stayed at this wonderful B&B. Jane and Warren are such gracious hosts and the breakfasts are the best. We love the area and the friendly, hospitable people of the lower Maine coast.

My husband and I greatly enjoyed our stay at the Captain Chadbourne House. We were fortunate enough to stay for four weeks - and we enjoyed every minute! Jane and Warren are wonderful hosts - The breakfasts are phenomenal and throughout our stay they were ready to share information about local dining, attractions, and events! The walk along Summer Street is picturesque and the Kennebunk Beaches are nearby--beautiful location! We miss it already and hope to visit again!

This is a return trip for us. The place is just as comfortable and relaxing. We watched fireworks on the beach and had a moonlight beach stroll another night. Gorgeous weather. The breakfasts cheerfully provided by the hosts are fabulous, creative and delicious. They should open a restaurant.

Truly felt like "Home"! Lovely location, easy to find. So close to all forms of delectable dining. Great spot for exploring the area and "Oh so nice to come "home" to after a very busy day, especially the comfy bedding!" With the private entrance and parlor, it was like having your own house!

This house is a true colonial charmer in what must be one of Maine's most picturesque areas. Several wonderful beaches and lighthouses to choose from and easily reached. The owners are a delight to meet and provide delicious homecooked breakfasts. Maybe you will be lucky enough to have a lobster omelet. We don't get those in Texas!
