If you are looking for a quiet place, this is NOT it. It is a corner unit on the main road through town, so this unit's bedroom as well as the living room are very noisy especially traffic noise. Also, it sits directly across the street from the Bayfield Inn which is a noisy place, especially in the summer. The unit itself was clean. A coffee maker is provided, yet no coffee packets (like you normally get in a hotel) to make that first cup of coffee...We thought that was somewhat stingy for the price we paid for the unit. My daughter and I were coming up to Bayfield to attend a memorial service that Sunday and had asked the owner if we would be able to check in at 1:30pm vs 4. (We were bringing up the daughter, son in law and grandbaby of the woman whose service we were attending)The best he could do was a half an hour before the service started--even though the unit wasn't rented out prior to our stay. After attending the service and meeting the wonderful, generous locals of Bayfield, we concluded there are many more restful, peaceful places to stay in Bayfield, that befit the beauty and nature of the area.Recommended for: Tourists without a car.
Owner response: We are sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your 1 night stay in March. I know that we spoke earlier, prior to your reservation and even felt bad that you had to come up for a memorial and that is why we discounted your rate by over $20.00. We tried to acomodate you by giving you an earlier arrival time than the standard of 4:00pm. When you made your reservation you asked for 3:30pm and we had the condo ready for you at that time. March is a pretty quiet time in Bayfield, so I am surprised that you found it to be loud. We have never had a complaint about the Bayfield Inn being noisy. Again, we are sorry you did not thoroughly enjoy your stay. I know from past experience that going to a Memorial is never a joyous experience. We hope you will come back to Bayfield in the future and take in the fresh air and beauty of the Apostle Islands!

This condo is wonderful! It is beautifully maintained, the bed is very comfortable, and it is right in the heart of Bayfield within walking distance to everything. I'm listening to seagulls on a colorful fall morning looking out the french doors at a quaint street and Lake Superior with Madeleine Island in the distance. We are happy to have the electric woodburning stove because it is a bit chilly on this October day. I also appreciate having the space of a condo with comfortable seating and a full kitchen rather than being cooped up in a motel room. There are about 30 steps leading up to the condo...I don't think there is an elevator. The owner of this condo is extremely helpful. He contacted us by email, letter, and phone to make arrangements and make sure we had all the information we needed. He even made us aware of a special pricing option available during our stay here which included a $25 coupon to use at Bayfield restaurants. The only drawback is that Highway 13 runs through town and the condo is on Highway 13. There is a bit of traffic noise which begins at about 4:00am with trucks. We are here midweek in October so the school busses come through too at about 6 or 6:30am. I'm a light sleeper but my husband never heard anything. That said, I would stay here again the next time we come to Bayfield.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: So glad you enjoyed! We look forward to you visiting Bayfield, Wisconsin again! 22 Apostle Islands and the Nations largest collection of light houses! Thanks Jack & Marie

The location is fantastic! Right in the center of the activity hub of Bayfield. Within two blocks of this location is are a couple restaurants, bars, the ferry landing and public dock. We did the lighthouse tour by boat from the charter located at the public dock. We ordered breakfast carry out from across the street and enjoyed sitting on the terrance having coffee from the local coffee shop on the block next door. The condo was impressive, clean and tourist friendly. Brochures were available and a laptop with WiFi made it very easy to look up ferry times and local adventures. Laundry was a nice feature. We would strongly recommend this rental. It is on the second level, with no elevator so keep this in mind when booking.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you Anna! Glad you enjoyed Bayfield, Wisconsin and our condo. Come back & see us November through May. Peaceful, quiet, and great rates! Thanks Jack & Marie Armstrong

The Andrew Tate condo was great! It is in the heart of downtown Bayfield, which made walking to all the restarauts, shops, and ferry very easy. The inside of the condo was very nice and clean. The pictures on the site are accurate and the place is even better in person. The view overlooking the city dock from the balcony was amazing! We brought a boat with and there was a public launch five blocks away where you can keep your boat for up to three consecutive days. There are plenty of marinas to boat from as well. Jack was a pleasure to work with over the phone. I would recommend the condo to anyone looking for a great location to stay in Bayfield. We have been coming to the area for a few years, and this has been the best place we have stayed at. Thanks again Jack. We will be back.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Bayfield was beautiful and the condo had a great location...a little traffic noise...but a small price to pay for the view and location. We did have a few problems. Mildewed towels that had to be washed by us, a fireplace that wouldn't light, a finnicky washer, lack of a dresser in the bedroom, no coffee table to set a drink down. But most disturbing was when I brought these issues to the attention to the owner via email at first he only said "thank you" With a follow up email he chose to dispute my concerns and state that in 4 years he had never had any complaints, basically dismissing my concerns. After paying the summer rate for six nights I think we deserved better.Owner response: We thank you for your business and glad you enjoyed your stay in Bayfield and The Apostle Islands. After looking into your concerns we did email you back immediately and found no problem with our high quality towels. The gas stove is turned on to pilot mode during the hot summer. We do provide suit case holders and have chosen not to put a dresser in the bedroom for fear it may make the space seem to tight. The large bedroom closet provides plenty of room to hang clothes along with a shelf for undergarments, as well as two large night stands. Because of the location of the sofa sleeper in the living room, a coffee table would be impractical. We are sad that you were not 100% satisfied, and hope you will enjoy the book we sent you " A Historical Guide to Madeline Island".

We had the pleasure of three wonderful days in Bayfiled at the Tate Condo. As you can likely tell from the photographs this is no cookie cutter condo. It is a fully (and I mean fully) restored charming apartment in a historical building right on the in the middle of everything in downtown Bayfield. The descriptions were all accurate, the unit was in superior (no pun intended) condition and well appointed. Communication with the owner was perfect and he even retreived and mailed some clothes we left in the dresser. The location and proximity could not be better. Don't be concerned about being right downtown - in Bayfield you want to be right downtown. It's a 90 second walk to the harbor, restaurants and the Madeline Is. Ferry. There is ample and convinient off street parking right by the rear entrance - but the good news is that with the close proximity to everything we didn't move the car for two days which added to teh experiece. We enjoyed walking to Maggie's Restaurant and Ethel's pizza just a few blocks away and the candy store has a great ice cream selection for walking around after dinner. Overall a great experience and this is the only place I would stay in Bayfield. VBRO done right!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Andrew Tate #200 - one of the most impressive properties we've vacationed at. Beautifully furnished and tastefully decorated. We never ate a meal out as the kitchen was nicely equipped for meal prep and the sunny dining area and balcony were the perfect spots to share a meal, a morning cup of coffee, and a glass of wine with those gorgeous views of the lake and downtown. The property was immaculate and nicely maintained and the owner was very prompt in responding to questions and providing information for our stay. Thank you Jack and Marie - we'll be back!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

If you like to be right in Bayfield in a very nicely-appointed condo, then this is the place you want to be. You can park your car and rarely touch it during your stay. There is a nice selection of great fresh fish restaurants within a couple blocks. The grocery store is a block away, and a wonderful fresh fish market just a couple more. The condo's kitchen is equipped with everything you need to cook your own dinner if you want. Just out the door is a nice marina-side park for a morning or evening stroll, and from the marina you can catch either a boat to Madeline Island or a tour boat to visit the uninhabited Apostle Islands. The balcony is a wonderful place to sit with coffee in the morning, and a good book in the evening. Finally, the bed is extremely comfortable. It is hard to come up with any negatives. The only downside to being right in town is that you may hear some traffic and people in the street, but it quieted down at night, and the convenience more than made up for it. What a relaxing week!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, sightseeing, pet owners, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for the kind words. It truly is an accomodation in the best location and you can walk to everything! Thank You! Jack & Marie Armstrong Owners
