Delightful 1 Bedroom Suite with a King-Sized Bed at the Château Des Sablons
- Minimum stay:4 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Château des Sablons is a beautiful 18th century chateau with a white stone facade. It is ideally situated on the edge of the medieval market town Bourgueil which is amidst some the greatest castles in the heart of the Loire Valley.
The Bellevue Suite is a delightful one-bedroom suite located on the ground floor of the Château des Sablons. From its premier étage location (American second floor), it overlooks the gardens and park of the chateau with plenty of greenery and sounds of birds in the morning.
Guests in the Grandview Suite are able to enjoy the swimming pool and grounds of the chateau. The grounds are designed to provide an enclave of peace and quiet and guests are encouraged to use the various tables and chairs in the park seating areas for coffee, drinks and meals. The chateau makes a great place to relax after a day of sightseeing or even in place of a day of sightseeing.
Sightseeing By Foot: You can choose to visit the area by foot, bicycle, train, or auto.
The Chateau des Sablons is only a 15 minute stroll from the center of Bourgueil. The town is well endowed with shops, including three butcher shops, five bakeries, three café-bars, five restaurants, a wonderful patisserie and a good news agent’s shop for newspapers, etc. In addition there are two supermarkets, one in town that stays open Sunday morning and one just on the outskirts, the huge HyperU Supermarket.
The town is prosperous and enjoyable, and a center of wine production. The A.O.C. of Bourgueil is present on every wine list of any size in France and visiting the neighboring wineries (you’ll pass vines on the way into town) is one of our guest’s favorite activities.
Sightseeing By Bicycle: The Loire Valley in the part of France which is the most bicycle-friendly. A separate bike path has just been constructed between the center of Bourgueil and the Loire. This kind of construction is becoming more common in the area. (A several hundred kilometer bike path runs along the south bank levee of the Loire.)
There are plenty of guides for visiting the region by bicycle, but the immediate area has three bike circuits of about 40 km that provides visitors with a unique visit to the area. One focuses on the vineyards and wine-producing areas, another on the old ports on the Loire, and another takes you up into the hills and along the Chaungeon to see the mills, etc.
You can also combine bicycle tours with the train to extend your range. Almost all local trains from the Port Boulet station 3.5 km from the chateau carry bicycles. This allows you to ride to Saumur on the bike and then take the train home, for instance.
Sightseeing By Auto: The Chateau has a very convenient location, being only 3.5 km from an exit from the A85 motorway. This allows you immediate access to the motorway and speeds you to some of the further distance chateaus such as Amboise (less than an hour), Chenonceau (45 minutes), Langeais (15 minutes), Villandry (20 minutes), Chinon (15 minutes), Saumur (25 minutes), Montosreau (15 minutes), Angers, Azay le Rideau….

We had a great time. Thanks again for your hospitality. We're still high from our stay in Paris, but especially from our stay at your chateau in the Loire! We loved the setting, the beautifully kept grounds, as well as the comfortable and well equipped Bellevue apartment which had everything we needed (including umbrellas)! We hope to make it back there sometime. Best, Mike and Audrey K. - Santa Rosa, CA - USADid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

After 92 degree heat in Provence (in May) we were enfolded in the cool, gentle, green arms of spring when we arrived (a day early) at Chateau des Sablons. Our hosts were welcoming, understanding, and invited us to collapse in our apartment a day early. And what a lovely apartment it was! The living area was flooded with light from two tall windows complete withworking shutters. The ceilings were high, and the wood floors were old. But pehaps not as old as the wonderful circular stairs leading up to our door. The staircase center pillar was carved from a large treetrunk after the stairs were installed many years ago. Much more recently the walls of the apartment were skillfully covered with a lovely fabric that softened the sounds and surfaces of the rooms. The kitchen of the apartment was new with all the expected and hoped for appliances – even a small freezer in the refrigerator. A vase of mauve peonies and a bottle of local wine were awaiting us after our first day. The king-sized bed was firm, and the bath had a blissful soaking tub. We would throw the window shutters open in the morning to radiant sunshine and the birdsong of a warbler, and the cooing of doves. Besides all of this, the garden was postcard perfect with a gleaming swimming pool and clusters of tables and chairs set around the park-like grounds. The chateau itself is a perfect example of the exquisite, small country manors of French history. Not a huge castle, but a real and beautiful home. The local village, a 10 minute walk away, would have taken many weeks to get to know, but we were also in the center of the great chateau-wine-mushroom-troglodyte-Tufa cave-middle age village-Loire River-fabulous restaurants country. We could only scratch the surface and must return to continue our studies. I would also like to mention how helpful, knowledgeable, and gracious our hosts were! Thank you both so much. Thanks you so much for a wonderful stay in the Bellevue suite. Your chateau is truly something to behold. We came wanting to do three things: sleep, cycle, and drink fine wine! Needless to say we did all three! Thanks again, Alex & Ross UKDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had such a lovely honeymoon, thanks to Historic Rentals and the suites in Annecy, Menerbes, and Bourgueil. We especially loved our vineyard tour with Jean-Pierre! We will recommend it all highly, and will hopefully return soon! Best Wishes, Elizabeth & Dave W.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
