If I had to rate the Olive and the Goose on a hundred different points, I’d give it an A+ on 98 of those points. This is a truly magical and utterly beautiful spot. My family of 12 arranged a two week reunion during February 2011. The setting is idyllic—the house is set on a slight rise, with lawns sloping down to a tidal estuary, with lavender gardens at the bottom of the slope, olive orchards all around and the flock of happy geese waddling around the gardens and lending their particular charm to the setting. On our arrival, the house was impeccably clean, beds made up, towels in the bathrooms, extra linens in the cupboards, crockery and cutlery neatly arranged in the kitchen. The house itself is beautifully designed and is furnished with top of the line accoutrements throughout; loads of fluffy towels, comfortable queen beds, top quality sheets and pillows, soft duvets, and each of the 4 bedrooms has a spacious and well appointed en suite bathroom/shower. One of the bedrooms has 4 bunks and a lounge area with TV. The house is so large that the 12 of us never got in one another’s way. The kitchen, dining, lounge area is open plan, allowing food preparation without separating the cooks from the rest of the crowd. The large kitchen is a dream and every type of cookware required to prepare a gourmet meal is provided as well as enough crockery, cutlery and glassware to wine and dine a couple of dozen people. There is an inside dining table that seats 12 and an outside under-cover dining table which also seats a dozen or more with gorgeous views down to the estuary. The very comfortable inside living area has a big screen TV. All rooms open to the outside through huge concertina doors. Waking up in the morning and looking out at the lawns, the geese and the estuary in truly magical. Every need and comfort has been carefully thought out and provided by the owner, and by Rae and Peter who live on the property—about a hundred yards up the road---who will greet you when you arrive, and give you a tour of the house. Lovely people and they made our stay that much richer. So what are those 2 points that don’t fall into the A+ category? One was the lack of a decent sized barbecue. The second was a $15 charge for a broken wine glass, the sort that would cost $5 at any supermarket. This overcharge seemed rather petty. So--would I recommend the Olive a Goose to my best friend? Without any reservation. Would I go back? In a heartbeat.

The Hosts/caretakers of the property were so charming. The Lodge was large enough to allow us to have a small gathering of friends not including the the two families which shared the accommodations. The landscaping was superb and there is a fun golf course which was played several times. The geese, black swans and guinea fowl gave us friendly visits and were witnesses to the golf games. We would recommend this place and would definitely consider returning.
Owner response:Thank you so much for this review we would really appreciate it if you could take the time to put this review on our website as well. Thanks kindly Sue Ketel on behaf of The Olive and The Goose Lodge
