Smith Lake Farm is an agri-tourism destination. Come visit our peaceful acreage on the lake.
Activities include: feeding ducks, collecting eggs, bird watching, hiking, biking or horseback riding in the trails in the adjacent community forest, eating oyster and clams off Williams beach, spending a lazy day reading a book on our dock, mushroom picking, skiing, snowboarding and snowmobiling in the beautiful coast mountains and more.
The rental suite is located in a building separate from our home. It showcases alder floors from a local mill and the fir stairs and banister were milled off our property. The kitchen is fully equipped and the living area includes a workspace area. We are sure you will find our suite comfortable, convenient and tasteful. Canoe, kayaks and dock are at your disposal. With views to our peaceful lake and wilderness bog from the dining area, the mountains from the living area and our hayfield from the bedrooms: Smith Lake Farm will take your breath away!

Smith Lake Farm was a wonderful find for us. The apartment (built over a workshop, separate from the owner's home) was simple but beautiful. It had the feel of a home, not a rental space. It was clean and well cared for. The beds were completely comfortable and there was more than ample bedding/pillows and the futon in the living room meant there was more than enough room for our two pre-teens. The kitchen was well equipped with pretty much everything for making and serving meals. The view was amazing! The property itself was gorgeous and my kids would go back in a heartbeat. They loved going down to the lake to swim, canoe, kayak or just look for frogs. Collecting eggs in the morning and learning a bit about life on the farm from our hosts was an experience we all enjoyed. I can't say enough about our hosts. They hit the perfect balance of being there when you needed/wanted them and giving us privacy. My kids (and my husband and I) had lots of questions and our hosts were very generous with answers and information. It really was the perfect place for us to recharge our batteries!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children.

We had an excellent stay with 3 children in early June. Beautiful and quiet. A well-presented apartment, nice gerden, and good barbeque. The kids were in clover, and spent their time running around with the friendly shaggy dog, messing about by/on/in the lake, talking to the cows etc, and they thought that it was the "best fun ever." Close to some lovely beaches and walks. The hosts are friendly and helpful, and clearly passionate about their project. Superb and thoroughly recommended.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Kodi (the shaggy dog) was very sad when you left. We are happy you had such a good time!

Peaceful! The farm setting was exactly what we were in search of, and we loved it! The gracious hosts were very helpful and friendly. They respected our privacy while providing us with many opportunities to take part in the farm operation. Accommodations were terrific! Very clean and well-maintained! The lake, as well as the hiking and biking trails on and around the property gave our two boys endless hours of entertainment and exploration! Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone, especially a family with young children.Recommended for: Families with young children, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thanks so much for the kind review! I'm happy you thought getting up at 5 to see the calf being born was a good 'opportunity'! Maybe we will see your family again for some skiing next winter :-)

Year Purchased: 2008
Why the Owner Chose Courtenay:
We purchased our farm in 2007 and finished our guest suite in 2008. We moved from 'the big city' to Merville when we fell in love with Smith Lake Farm. Our long term goal and aspiration is to go off grid and produce most of our food.
The Unique Benefits at this Farmhouse:
I love coming home after a busy day in grade one to our farm. It is so peaceful - whether I am going for a run, mucking out a coop or sitting on my dock with a book - I am at home.
