Lovely beach house in the quaint village of Monterrico. Staying at Casa Karina offers tranquility and relaxation, as well as an active nightlife. Enjoy a leisurely day reading in a hammock and swimming in the pool shaded by palm trees. Or take a walk along the black sparkling volcanic sand beach and go for a swim in the warm Pacific Ocean. Later, head next door to Johnny’s Place for a delicious margarita and watch the volleyball and soccer players while the sun sets. In the evening, check out one of the wonderful restaurants on the beach or in town, then salsa with the locals and tourists late into the night.

The house has been remodeled and offers new furniture and appliances. Dine on the patio with the new bar and outdoor grill, while listening to the waves crash and watching the pelicans fly overhead. Sleep on comfortable mattresses under mosquito nets – turn on the ceiling and floor fans to keep you cool. Wake up to freshly ground coffee and make a scrumptious breakfast with the amenities in the kitchen.

The rental management company tends to the pool and grounds, provides cleaning service and ensures that your stay is pleasant.

Monterrico is known as the “laid back” town in Guatemala and famous for sea turtle conservation. Along the main street are small shops, restaurants and even a Spanish language school. While walking through town, you share the streets with pigs, chickens, cows, iguanas, dogs and cats. The town is located approximately 2 hours from Guatemala City and Antigua. Monterrico is enchanting – come visit!

  • Karen is very helpful the information on monterrico is useful in many ways. I really enjoyed the town as a whole because it has the typical guatemala feel with a few of the comforts of home. The house was very nice, spacious, great for a family gathering. The yard and deck are lovely and full of shade. Fermin was helpful however if you're looking for privacy you won't have it. He cuts through the yard constantly and will look into the house regularly. We even had someone come all the way into the house looking for Fermin. Also be aware that he will help you get anything you need but many times it is cheaper to find by other means. It is important to note that even though it says linens provided there were only four towels and no extra sheets or pillows. Thankfully it was just the two of us for most of the stay had we had a bigger party we would have been short. Though it was not my typical experience with rental properties the location and atmosphere are lovely and completely worth the stay.

  • Karen is incredibly great and helpful hostess. We got a ton of info about the country and the place before we came, and Monterrico appeared to be exactly what she said it would be - beautiful, down to Earth and friendly. We had a wonderful time there! Specifically we enjoyed the company of Fermin - the property manager - and his family - very nice people. The house is truly beautiful tropical bungalow and actually it's much more spacious that we thought from the pictures! And the yard is amazing, I had no idea the coconut palms were giving that much shade! We loved the hammocks and the view of the ocean, which is so close one can hear waves. We'd come again in a heartbeat! Thanks, Karen!

  • Our stay here was so enjoyable. The house is very attractive and comfortable. The location, right on the beach, is perfect. The pool is refreshing. A great place to lay in a hammock and enjoy a bit of paradise.
