Dan, I, Clint & our dog Biscuit loved your place in Black Mountain. It was an easy drive from our house, only 2 hours and easy access off of I-40. We enjoyed your beautiful cabin with all the ammenities - it was a first class house all the way! The drive upto the cabin was an adventure. Our 17 year old enjoyed the sites and the hiking. We did walk the trails in the back, that was good exercise for all of us! Thanks again and we hope to rent your place again some day.
Owner response:Yes, we are only 10 minutes from the Highway and downtown Black Mtn with the grocerry store, gas station, stores and great restaurants. Although on the property, surrounded by nature, you 'feel' like you are hours away. We look forward to hosting you again.

Had a wonderful relaxing time. The cabin was perfect. The road leading to the cabin was a little rough if driving a small car. The perfect place if taking a pet, our little dog enjoyed it as much as we did.
Owner response:Glad you had a relaxing vacation. Yes, you are correct there is a 1.5 mile drive on a gravel road. Two-wheel drive is acceptable except for Jan/Feb with possible heavy snow.

We had a wonderful experience staying in your cabin. Upon arrival, we felt like we were entering our own home and not some rental. The cabin decor was beautiful. Sherri has everything there including a wine bottle opener (which we forgot) to make your stay relaxing and the cabin was meticulously clean. The hot tub was very relaxing, functioned properly and clean. As it was our first time to the area, my wife and I are planning a trip in the spring and will most certainly be staying at one of the mansells property's. The Black Mountain area was a wonderful area with quaint shops, clean grocery stores and beautiful scenery yet close enough to Asheville and other area excursions. Thank you Sherri for providing a wonderful experience for us.
Owner response:We are glad you enjoyed your first trip to Black Mountain and our cabin. It is certainly a charming town! Thanks, Sherri & Larry Mansell (owners)

My husband I stayed here for the weekend of my cousins wedding. This was our first trip to Black Mountain. How quaint!!! We were originally intimidated by the gravel road to the property, but it was well worth the trip. We arrived at the most serene setting with a large pond . At night we would have night cap on the porch in the jacuzzi overlooking the lighted fountain. And, you could see so many stars out in the eveving. The cabin came equiped with EVERYTHING we could possibly need, and was super clean! We will be back to visit.

the listing was 100% accurate, we found the property comfortable, with all the amenities we needed (we do suggest adding a printer). We also noted that a lot of thought had been given to little details, nick knacks from the area, the hot tub and the fire pit and horse shoe game outside by the lake. The area was a great experience, and the cabin gave us the opportunity to come back to a scenic and comfortable setting. We found the property clean, and everything was in working order. Comfortable beds, plenty of towels and extra blankets and pillows. All our questions and requests were answered in a timely manner before we left by Sherri (the owner), who we found to be more then helpful and informative. We loved Morning Glory Cafe, its at the bottom of the mountain so a great location to stop for breakfast on your way to starting the day. We became regulars there, their food is amazing. We tried them for dinner one night, worth trying, great! We also loved Phil's BBQ & mini golf, the food is amazing, and we even left them a Yankees hat to add to their collection. We do not recommend Coach House Seafood, we all three come to the same consensus: The worst restaurant we had eaten at in our entire lives. Black Bird was also excellent, but you should know the prices are costly, even compared to New York standards. For rafting we definitely recommend Huck Finn Rafting Adventures, we pre booked with them, and their service and guides on the river were very professional. If you go to Chimney Rock, we definitely recommend eating breakfast (or early lunch) at Ginny's in the town. We sat on the outer deck by the river, the view was worth a million dollars. The elevator at Chimney Rock was out of service, so the 474 stairs up was an adventure. I would recommend if you are traveling during off season checking the attractions up front. We found quiet a few places were already closed during the week as the schools had gone back, and were only open on weekends (i.e. paddle boats, local beaches etc).
Owner response:Thank you for your helpful feedback for our future guests. As you stated, there are many great restaurants in Black Mtn just 10 minutes from our property. We hope you visit again to try some more.

We had such a great time at the cabin, it was so worth the mile gravel road drive, which ends at a beautiful pond and fountain. The hiking and tubing was a lot of fun for our family, and we so enjoyed the bon fires at night. The cabin very well maintained with every amenity you can think of. I highly recommend it and will be back again. Patricia M.

My favorite part of the vacation was sighting a deer on the road as we drove back to the cabin. The dear stood still for 2-3 minutes and just stared at us as we stayed in the car. My son saw a bear cub in the woods and was smart enough to turn around and come immediately back to the cabin. We had to travel approx 1 mile on a gravel road to get there but it was well worth the trip. Once on the grounds overlooking the pond and fountain and nature surroundings, it was PARADISE! We had a great time and were impressed with the cleanliness.
Owner response:We love being so close to town and most of all love the nature surroundings. We are glad you enjoyed it too.

The property is even prettier than the pictures posted on the website! My husband and I enjoyed visiting the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, and really enjoyed the restaurants in Black Mountain. However, our children, ages 7-11, were the happiest staying on the property to hike the trails and catch salamanders and tadpoles in the creek. We had a great time!

This was our 2nd stay at Highrock Cabins. We rented both the Highrock Meadow and the Highrock Preserve together. The owners have cleared more hiking trails on the property since our first visit. The trails, creeks, pond and meadow area are a nature's delight. We enjoy the serenity while still being so close to town (only 10 minute drive). We will be back!

We had a wonderful time. The place has all the basics you'll need for a great week. From the bottle of wine to the firewood at the firepit, it's all taken care of. The cabin is clean and it's just as the description says. So much to see and do, from Biltmore to the Parkway to some very challenging biking. On the other hand, we had a day lounging around the hot tub and that works too! My only issue was with the wasps as they found their way into the cabin on several occasions, don't know if they're finding their own way in or flew in when we had the door open. Check out the info package with ideas of things to see and do. We have friends in the Ashville area who weren't aware of all the exciting options. Really, the place is great, you'll love it. Getting through the back road to the cabin is a challenge but it adds to the allure of the place. Don't rely on gps, get directions. Area restaurants aren't anything special but the cabin has a full kitchen and a grill that we made excellent use of. When we come back, it will be the first place we check out and hope it's available.

If you want to stay in a place with all the comforts of home then don't look any further. Everything you would expect and more with attention to the littlest details. The property is situated in black mountain with plenty of shops, restaurants and entertainment you desire. The property has a spectacular view of a find surrounded by lush meadows and hiking trails. We ate at the best two restarants Red Rocker Inn and Black Bird. We visited The Biltmore house in Asheville which is only a short 20 minute drive, so this house has a great location. After all the sightseeing you can come back to your cozy cabin and soak yourself in the hot tub, what a perfect way to end your day. I would highly recommend this as one vacation home you have to stay when visiting the Black Mountain/Asheville, North Carolina area.
Owner response:Thank you for your review. We agree that it's great to be in the wilderness and also have amazing restaurants within 15 minutes of the property!

From the moment you drive onto the property you get a feeling of being one with nature in a perfect private little hideaway. Not only are the grounds immaculately clean and spacious, but the cabin is set up so perfectly cozy that you don't want ever to leave. Enjoyment includes daytime strolls on quiet trails along the creek, to a nighttime of sitting under a blanket of stars roasting marshmallows over the fire pit which is surrounded by a pond. An added treat was the hot tub which sits on an open porch surrounded by trees. The hot tub was thoroughly enjoyed and a perfect ending to a day of walking through various quaint antique shops which were not far away. This cabin is located close to the famous elaborate Biltmore Estate and winery which was a totally amazing wonderful day trip. You could probably spend two days there if you want to actually see everything. Our two favorite restaurants just minutes away were The Red Rocker Inn and Black Bird. They were very different yet they were both fabulous. However, I must say that simply staying in the cabin and cooking breakfast, lunch, and dinner was just as nice. Every item that was needed was easily found. The owners did not forget anything! There is even a picnic table by the pond to enjoy lunch or just grab a book and quietly read outdoors surrounded by the sounds of nature. Every little detail was carefully thought of and they made sure the cabin was fully equipped with an extra cozy mattress and plenty of cushy pillows. Overall, my favorite part of the day was morning just sitting on the porch enjoying a hot cup of coffee rocking in a rocking chair and breathing in the crisp cool clean air. I would definitely recommend this sweet wonderful cozy cabin located on Black Mountain, NC in ANY season if you’re looking for a relaxing yet enjoyable getaway. Best part of all, there is another cabin on the property if you like to travel with another family or some extra friends. I can't wait to go back again.
Owner response:Wow! Thank you for a GREAT review. We are glad you enjoyed your vacation!!!

This is a well kept cabin, nicely decorated, stocked with everything needed to make yourself at home. The wood piles for burning in the fireplace were enough for a cold week. the small pond and trail through the woods is a nice outdoor touch. A very nice hot tub on the porch was enjoyed. AWD or 4 WD definitely needed in bad weather, a shovel and some kitty litter for traction might be helpful should it snow. We had about 10 inches of snow on Christmas day! It is a great place to be snowed in as long as you bring enough food. Black Mountain is a quaint town with interesting shops, I especially enjoyed the friendly Black Sheep Yarn shop. Ingles grocery store has it all. The owners were available by phone and very friendly.
Owner response:Glad you had a white christmas. This year and last year we had over 12 inches of snow for Christmas! Have a happy new year.

Perfect Vacation Week. The cabin was ideal, clean, comfortable and felt like my home away from home. It was stocked with everything we needed, and there was a great store nearby for anything we forgot or couldn't travel with. The wooded setting was charming and I loved hiking on the trails around the property. My favorite spot was sitting at the campfire at the pond. It was a great way to spend a week with family and catching up with old friends. The cabin was a perfect location for all we wanted to do. From touring the Biltmore Estate, hiking Chimney Rock, exploring on the Blue Ridge Parkway, shopping in Asheville and Black Moutain, tubing in the Smokey Moutains to white-water rafting, hiking and horseback riding, we did not know what to do first. Can't wait to go back to experience more of North Carolina.

School just ended and I was looking for a vacation spot to relax and enjoy the outdoors with my three children and my sister-in-law's family. We rented the two cabins on the property together and had a blast. There was plenty of grass area for the kids to run around and play games during the day, and for us to sit on the deck at night looking at the stars and the lighted fountain. We even saw 2 dear drinking water from the pond. The bonfire fire pit was a family favorite gathering spot. The cabins were spectaclularly clean and fully equipped. First off, if we rated this excellent, we couldn't afford it, so we'll call it an excellent good. This is a jewel of a house, located exactly where it needs to be to enjoy the Blue Ridge Mountains and Western NC. Super clean, with all of the amenities you would expect - even the firewood is aged and burns just right. We liked it so much, we have already reserved a longer time in the house next year. The house is tucked up in the hills so, if you have an SUV or truck, use it. We brought the sedan, which did fine, but the truck would have been a little easier. Also, be careful in the hot tub. Access and egress is a little precarious. Finally, don't mind the neighbors. They're a little close, but it doesn't present a privacy problem.

We were able to enjoy both cabins recently at a family reunion in the area. Everything you need for a vacation home away from home was there. Just bring groceries and laundry detergent and you can move right in for a while. We truly enjoyed our stay and the excercise we got from climbing the hill. Saw deer and heard the song of a bull frog! What more could you ask for in a mountain vacation.

We had a wonderful family reunion. What a perfect place to have it. We went to the Biltmore, White water rafting, hiking trails and enjoyed downtown Black Mountain's shops. There was so much to do at the cabin that we just stayed and enjoyed ourselves there too. Plenty to do for the kids too( they loved the campfires) The hot tub was a bonus. The cabin is beautiful and cozy at the same time. Everything you would need is there. It was awesome to just sit on the porch rockers and enjoy the view. Thanks again for sharing your home away from home. Paul and Debbie

We thoroughly enjoyed our springtime mountain getaway in this lovely log cabin. It is just far enough away to feel secluded, and just close enough to the town of Black Mountain with its quaint shops and good restaurants to feel connected. Especially notable are the crabcakes at the Black Mountain Bistro. They were the best and biggest crabcakes we've had anywhere! With the grocery store so close, we were able to dine in several nights as well. The cabin also served as base camp for our numerous day hikes in the surrounding areas of the Pisgah National Forest. We highly recommend the Avery Creek Loop #1 Trail near Brevard. Twin Falls seen on this hike were awesome and well worth the drive to Brevard. The hot tub provided great therapy every evening. It is also nice that the cabin is pet friendly. Our Irish Terrier enjoyed his getaway too!
Owner response:Thanks for the hiking tips. . .there are so many good places to hike in the area, and we will keep the recommendations in the cabin for our visitors.

We had the PERFECT vacation in Black Mountain and were rewarded with a few inches of snow, which our girls had never seen. We all played in it, ventured around the trails, relaxed in the hot tub, played horseshoes, swung in the hammock, enjoyed S'mores by the fire, and that was just at the cabin! The Mansells' have thought of everything in regards to your vacation needs. The Town of Black Mountain is a quaint little place to go for groceries, a bite to eat, and shopping as well. We had a great time in Asheville too, and can't express in words how AWESOME Chimney Rock was! Lake Lure is also a picturesque little Town that shouldn't be missed. Everything was only minutes away, and the people we encountered were SO nice and helpful. Do yourself and your family a favor, and book a stay at this cabin!!

We thoroughly enjoyed the privacy of this well-appointed and comfortable cabin yet it was close enough to downtown Black Mountain with all the needed conveniences that we did not feel isolated. Our dogs had a great time on the nature trail and pond on the property. We hiked everyday and ate dinner at the Grove Park Inn in Asheville (which we highly recommend during the holidays for the decorations alone). We were even lucky enough to be able to sit out on the cabin porch the first two nights as it was unseasonably warm for December. We definitely hope to return one day!

My family and I stayed in the cabin over the July 4th weekend. We have stayed in a few different cabins throughout the Blue Ridge Mountains and this by far was the best. The cabin is brand new and so is everything inside. It was like living in a model home; beautifully decorated and very comfortable. My favorite part was having coffee in the morning on the porch looking out over the pond and fountain. Very relaxing! The cabin had a binder full of great suggestions and attractions in the area. We could stay at the cabin and relax and unwind or just travel about 10 minutes to grocery stores, cute shops and nice restaurants. We had a great time and would highly recommend it!

This cabin was amazing - everything you could have needed was already there. There is nothing better than being so close to nature, but still having all the conveniences of home. The front porch was quiet and my husband and I enjoyed having our morning coffee while sitting on the rockers with a view of the fountain, pond and trees surrounding the property. We even saw a deer one morning. It's so serine!

My husband and I spent a week at the cabin in April, 2008. We loved the cabin, the grounds and the surrounding area. The cabin is beautifully furninshed and includes all the amenities needed. The views from the cabin are awesome. It is close to great restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, golf...and located near I 40. It's an easy trip to Asheville and all it has to offer. We had a wonderful time and hope to stay there again.
Owner response:Thank you very much. We are glad you enjoyed the property as much as we do!

My family and I stayed over the winter break and had one of the best vacations ever. The house in itself is beautifully decorated with all amenities. The property has beautiful mountain views, a pond which you can see directly from this house and even has it's own hiking trail. We found the property very conveniently located to food stores, restaurants and things to do for our family. We wouldn't hesitate to go there again.
