This darling rustic cottage, Casita Sarita, sleeps 3 and has just been done over to meet the comforts that any eco-minded traveler would expect. It is near the small town of Cabanga which is starting to be discovered and is only a half hour drive from Nuevo Arenal. This is the only visitor accommodation in the area.
Let me tell you some of the reasons I love staying in this cottage. It is not a tourist area but rather a place for a nature lover. The spectacular view from the back porch looks at 5 volcanoes (extinct), a stream, and many lovely fields, large stands of forest, and lots of fruit trees. Sometimes flocks of parrots arrive for the afternoon and chatter with their lifelong mates. There are toucans and hummingbirds around the fruit trees. This is a bird enthusiasts back porch dream come true. The cottage is well set up to stay for a few days or weeks. Cabanga is an authentic Costa Rican experience.
The beds, one queen size and one twin size, are new as are the kitchen and laundry appliances. I like to cook, so I have made the kitchen really workable, but there is a restaurant just down the road that people drive long distances to visit. It is very reasonably priced.
We have a bamboo farm not far away from Casita Sarita and you are welcome to enjoy the paths in the forest and along the kilometer of private riverfront that runs through primary jungle forest. There is a waterfall and a wonderful swimming hole. There are monkeys in the trees.
There are national parks nearby including the Cana Negro Wildlife Preserve where you can hire a boat and guide, Volcan Tenorio National Park, Volcan Miravalles and Rincon de la Vieja. Also very nearby are Cote Lake and a lodge that has horseback riding, hikes and a zip line ride. It is also accessable to Volcan Arenal and all the activities that are in the area- ATV riding, world famous Tabacon Resort and Spa with has beautiful hot springs and lush landscapes, cave exploration and much more. Just over the hill is beautiful Lake Arenal with fishing, worlclass wind surfing and many restaurants.
Our local contact person, Olman Sandoval, speaks very good English, knows everyone, and can probably get you access to any of the forests in the area if hiking in undisturbed areas appeals to you. |
