Truly Amazing

Guest: Christine M. (California)
Date of Stay: 02/09/12 Review Submitted: 02/20/12

We could not have asked or dreamed of a better place to spend our vacation. The description and the photos of the house DO NOT do it justice! We could have stayed inside the entire time and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! Everything needed for a home away from home was included. The sounds at night were amazing - the waves crashing were a delight for all senses. Thank you so much for everything.

Great house and location.

When looking for a house we read the description of this house and all the reviews. This seemed like the house for us and it was. The reviews describing the property and amenities are on target so I won't repeat them. I thought I might add a comments that could be helpful. 1. This house is located about 15 minutes to Pohoa. There is a good selection of restaurants in Pohoa and if you wish to eat out you will find something you like. That said, we ate all breakfasts and dinners in (with most lunches out). The view from the house was just to spectacular to allow us to leave for dinner. You will find everything you need to make meals in this house. There was a bread maker, rice maker and many other appliances. Doesn't mean you have to use them but illustrates how complete the kitchen is. 2. Do not miss the Pohoa Farmers markets on Sunday. There is a market in Pohoa and another just past Pohoa on the way to Hilo (hwy 130 about 3 miles outside of Pohoa). Both are worthwhile. The market outside of Pohoa is a real party. There are many food booths, music, crafts and a very good selection of fruit and vegetables. 3. Very good walks from the house. Walk out the front door, turn left, follow the road and you will be walking under a canopy of trees along the ocean. We took that walk as many mornings as we could. A great start to the day. 4. Convenient location. We thought this house was in a great location. A few miles to all the sights along red road. About an hour to the volcano national park (we went two times). Close enough to Hilo to shop and enjoy the town. It is hard to see from the pictures, but you have complete privacy but there houses across the street. You are not in a desolate area. The owners are a few blocks away. 5. The house has an elevator. That may make you think everything is so spread out that you will be running up stairs or on an elevator all the time. The elevator was convenient to load and unload our luggage on the first and last day. We didn't need it during our stay. The bedrooms are on the third floor and the kitchen/living room is on the second floor. We spent most of our time on those two floors. 6. The top floor is the roof. It has chairs and offers an excellent area to get some sun during the day. We used it to watch the stars at night. The views were outstanding from all floors, but amazing for star gazing at night. We really enjoyed our 9 night sta.y at this house.

Christmas Holiday 2011

Guest: keegan p.
Date of Stay: 12/17/11 Review Submitted: 01/05/12

As a home away from home for the holidays, this place was just the trick for a mini-family reunion. 6 adults and one toddler were able to comfortably fit into the house. The main living room and roof deck area served as fantastic places to just hang out and enjoy the view, which cannot be overstated as "awesome". Be prepared to spend several hours each day just staring at the sea. The entire house was well equipped and there is little more you need to provide yourself with other than food and drink. All appliances and kitchen gear were in good condition if not basically new. Laundry facilities were excellent. Garage is stocked with a grill, coolers, snorkel sets, beach chairs, and umbrellas (embrace the rain folks, its Pahoa). As far as things to do, the Big Island is well.....big. There is a ton of natural beauty everywhere and this house is about centrally located to most of it; Tide pools and hot ponds near Kapoho, Lava field access down Rte 132, surfing at Spencer State Park, shopping and the "city" in Hilo, Volcano national park about 1 hr away. Biggest suggestion is to do your reading before you come and then don't be afraid to go explore. A 4x4 Jeep can really help get you to some of the more hidden gems. Jeff and Judy were great hosts and it was a pleasure to stay at this house. If you are looking for a unique vacation rental this place should be considered.

Owner response:Thanks for choosing our home, and I'm glad you guys enjoyed the home and your vacation. I love when families get a chance to all come together and spend Christmas together. Hope to see you again, Judi

Breathtaking!!!

Aloha!! In the past ten years we have rented condos many times on most of the Hawaiian Islands, but none compare to this site. The 180 degree view of the ocean is breathtaking to say the least. We enjoyed viewing the "honu" (turtles) swimming in the ocean below. The house littlerly overlooks the ocean, which presents a mesmerizing view in any direction. This unigue rental lies in a very quiet family neighborhood next to a park, which in itself is beautiful. The location is ideal for commuting to most of the island favorite tourist sites. Hilo the largest town is just a short drive away, but there are several towns, shops, stores, gas stations, farmer markets, and restaurants closer by. This rental had all of the amenities one would expect or want and in some cases even more. The owners of the property are very personable and a joy to do business. They treat you like "ohana" (family). In the event you are planning to stay on the Big Island, this is a highly recommended rental offered by great folks!!

Owner response:Thanks for the wonderful review. It was a pleasure to meet you both, and I'm glad you found our home accomodating. While our weather is usually very pleasant in our area, you guys were great sports about the big electrical storm that hit during your visit. It is pretty exciting to be right on the ocean during one of those. Hopefully you got to see both the sun and the moon rise out of the ocean from your front lanai also. It is never boring being on the oean front that is for sure. Hope you stay with us again.... Mahalo Judi

Spectacular views from this home.

Date of Stay: 10/03/11 Review Submitted: 10/20/11

A get away that is private and beautiful we spent 2 weeks in this lovely home and the views were worth it. We enjoyed the sunrises, watching the turtles and exploring the area. The sounds of the waves and the frogs were incredible. The snorkeling on this side of the island is spectacular, like swimming in a fish tank but better. We tried snorkeling on the other side of the Island but there was more to see in the area we were in. The house provided for all our needs and was very comfortable. I can't say enough to describe the view. It was off the beaten path and a car is necessary, Pahoa has some lovely places to dine and is a quaint town to explore. We did have plenty of rain but it was only showers off and on and in no way dampened our experience. If you want to get away from the high traffic of a resort area this is a wonderful place to do it. Thank-you Jeff and Judi we truly enjoyed your beautiful home.

Owner response:Thanks for the kind review, you guys feel the same way we do about our home and the area. It always makes us happy to know that our guests enjoyed the home as well as all the great sites to explore on our side of the island. I hope you stay with us again, it was a pleasure to meet you all. Mahalo Judi

This house is as beautiful as the pictures suggest. The 3rd and 4th floor terraces are great places to spend hours. The master BR is beautiful. And it's hard to beat falling asleep and waking up to the sounds of birds and the ocean crashing against the rocks. Judi was very helpful and responsive to anything we needed.

Owner response:Thanks for the kind review, I am glad that your family enjoyed the home. I hope to see you all again on the Big Island some time in the future. Mahalo Judi

Guest: Nick (League City, TX)
Date of Stay: 08/03/11 Review Submitted: 08/17/11

I don't think I have enough room to type up everything I want to say about this house. Wow! It was clean, beautiful, tastefully decorated, amazingly comfortable after a long day siteseeing (which you will spend a lot of time in the car, so plan accordingly!) The area is quiet and tranquil. Since there are no neighbors on either side, there is a little circle drive where an occasional car will drive up and the people will get out to enjoy the view. I actually felt, unintentially, a little snooty at one point as I looked down from the 4th floor lanai to the extraordinary view. To be honest, every floor has an amazing view. The sounds of the ocean while sleeping were great. There are, what I think are frogs, that you hear at night, but its a consistent sound so nothing that would keep you awake, especially if you leave the door cracked in your bedroom. It is important to keep the windows closed at night though - in the rooms you're not in, as it rained everyday. I actually woke up to a bit of spray on my face, so I simply closed the window and it was cool enough that I didn't need the window open anymore. The kitchen and living room are a great place to hang out (third floor) and are simply huge rooms. Judi lives a few streets down and we just had to swing by on our way out to say goodbye and thanks for a wonderful time. We just wish we could have stayed longer. Make sure you get up early enough to see the sunrise. Fantastic! If you can make it to the Mauna Kea observatory (or at the very least, the visitor's center, do so. It was worth the drive. We got to see Saturn, the glow of lava from Kilauea, and thousands of stars. It was SO dark up there. Amazing.

Owner response:Thanks for taking the time to review my home, I always appreciate that so much. I'm glad your family enjoyed your stay in my home. It does seem that it often rains in the late evening and the early morning, but it always clears up during the day. Blue skies, crashing surf, gorgeous views...we do have a great location. It sounds like you guys enjoyed it as much as we do. Thanks for staying with us and I hope we see you again. Mahalo Judi

An Oasis of Peace and Tranquility

Guest: Geoff L.
Date of Stay: 05/21/11 Review Submitted: 07/12/11

Judi and Jeff's home was absolutely fabulous! It is exactly as described, but even better in person! We were completely impressed with the location, the amenities, style, and function of the home. Judi was so kind to meet us for a very late arrival and I knew instantly we were going to love their home. I had a few questions, so I emailed them to Judi and she responded so quick. Her home telephone was supplied, but we like seclusion on our vacations and this one was the best of all time!!! Thank you for an exceptional place to stay! It was our own oasis of peace and tranquility! While on the Big Island, we went down the government road, red road, helicopter tour, Akaka falls, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Hawaii Tropical Botanical Gardens and many other places. Favorite place to eat out was Kaleo's in Pahoa. Ning's Thai House was also fantastic! Grocery and other shopping is easy at Malama market in Pahoa. The weather was fantastic and the people we met were kind.

Owner response:Thank you for your persistence in the review process. I know that you had difficulties with the web site initially, but your review finally came through. I am so happy that you guys loved the home. As I have said many times in the past, it is always so gratifying to find out that our guests love the home as much as we do. It really is a very unique home and location, and I have never seen anything quite like it in my 43 years of living in Hawaii. It sounds like you visited all my favorite places, so I know you experienced some great adventures during your stay. Thank you again for the wonderful review. Mahalo Judi

This was an awesome place to stay. I stayed with my father and brother for 4 nights. Judy had though of everything necessary to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. Thanks a million for sharing your home and helping to make our vacation excellent. The location worked out great for us. Just a short drive from the airport as well as an excellent starting point for the volcano and driving up the east coast. Everything went really well and the house was really really comfortable. We really appreciated the laundry facilities and the comfortable beds. My brother cooked for us the whole time!!! Although we didn't get to see any turtles (I think because the trade winds were blowing and all of the water was quite choppy), we never stopped looking at the amazing views. The sunrises were awesome. We couldn't stop talking about the place after we left! Thanks again! We really appreciate our stay at your house!

Wow of Wows!

Guest: Donna (Kansas City, MO)
Date of Stay: 03/01/11 Review Submitted: 03/23/11

"Wow of Wows" was my email subject line when I shared finding this listing with family members . We booked this house and it did not disappoint! Our group of 6 ranged from a "30-something" granddaughter to the patriarch of our family who celebrated his 92nd birthday while we were there. The elevator was essential and the shower bench Judi provided was very helpful. The design of the house allowed us to be comfortable when together and yet allowed each of us personal space during our 9 day stay. That ocean view and the sunrises - while cooking, eating, from bed. and from the roof top! It couldn't be better than that! Our family enjoyed eating most of our meals 'at home.' We did enjoy a couple of finds in Hilo - the Thai food wagon parked in the Farmer's Market area on Wed. and Sat. After visiting the market we purchased Thai lunches and picniced at Lili'uokalani Park. One evening we decided to eat out before returning 'home.' We happened on to Ponds (135 Kalanianaole Avenue). Definately a local favorite - friendly, relaxed, good food, moderate prices. During the past 4 years, we have stayed in several vacation rentals, all have been good experiences. However, this was really the "Wow of Wows!" Good price, great house, wonderfully helpful owner/host - exceptional value for a few precious days in paradise!

Owner response:I am so glad that your family enjoyed my home. Every time I start to feel that I am getting "older", I meet a wonderfully young, vibrant person like your father who just turned 92. I'm glad my home could be a part of such a joyful occasion, and it was a pleasure meeting your family. Hope you come visit us again..Judi

Unbelievable House

Guest: Jim (Davis, CA)
Date of Stay: 02/20/11 Review Submitted: 03/01/11

My wife and I spent four nights here and loved every minute. If we had known better we would have booked a week. The views are simply gorgeous. We loved watching the waves crash against the lava/rocks as well as listening to the sound of the surf, which is quite loud. While sitting at the dining room table and looking out the ocean facing windows, all you see is water. I kept expecting the house to start bobbing up and down. There are floodlights on the ocean side of the house that you can use to light up the ocean after dark. The interior was nicely furnished, the kitchen was well equiped and the master bed was very comfortable. In addition to the usual things like linens and towels, the owner's provide things like toilet paper, paper towels, dish and laundry soap, etc. There are plenty of things to do in the surrounding area including snorkeling at the tidepools, basking in volcanicly heated pools and watching the lava. While we were there lava was flowing over previous flows and we took a guided walk from the end of route 137 over private property to within inches of flowing lava!! ($50 per person, just show up around 5:15PM at the end of route 137, no reservation needed.) Going into Hilo is an easy drive, too. My wife and I are foodies and we loved Kaleo's Bar and Grill in Pahoa. It is not in the 5th edition of the "blue book," but we are certain it would get an "ONO" if it were. We ate there twice. Make a reservation. I don't know when we will visit the Big Island again, but I have bookmarked the listing for the house so I can find it quickly when the time comes. You can't go wrong with this rental. Judi was very helpful checking is in and showing us around. She is also knowledgable about activities available in the area. P.S. I wish I owned this place!

Owner response:Thanks so much for the kind review. We try to make sure we provide all of the "essentials" the guests will need when they stay in our home. The views really do make you feel like you are on a boat, that's why I put that in my description. Sounds like you guys hit all my favorite spots during your stay, you must have been busy. Please come back and see us again. Mahalo Judi and Jeff

January 2011 stay

Guest: Brad (Illinois)
Date of Stay: 01/25/11 Review Submitted: 06/20/11

My family and I stayed in this home for the second time in January. Jeff and Judi are great hosts. The home is bueatiful and right on the ocean !! We have seen whales and turtles right off of the balcony of the house. The ocean is mesmorizing !! At times we spent quite a while just sitting on the balcony and watching and listening to the ocean. The home is a little rural but well worth the drive for such a beautiful place. We highly recommend a stay here. Everything you need(except for food) is in the house. Many sites of the east side of the big island are just a short drive from the house. This is a must stay property. Mahalo Jeff and Judi !! You have a real gem here !

Owner response:Aloha Brad, it was a real pleasure to have your family stay with us a second time. You guys are very adventuresome travelers, considering your first visit a year before was during a tsunami scare. But we made the most of an inconvenient time, and had a nice visit at my house waiting for the all clear. I'm glad that didn't deter you from coming back and staying with us again. Thanks for the great review, and hope to see you all again. Mahalo Judi

We greatly enjoyed our stay on this waterfront property. Judy is a very nice person and made us feel welcome when we met her on the first day. The house has a great view from all floors, especially the 4th floor on the roof. There is a constant breeze coming from the ocean, so it was never really hot. It did get a little warm one night when it was raining and there was no breeze. Thanks for the fun time! We will definitely keep this property in mind for our next visit.

Truly a Unique Home

Guest: J and F (Rancho Mirage, CA)
Date of Stay: 04/25/10 Review Submitted: 05/13/10

It's hard to find a home literally on the oceans edge. To be able to watch the magnificence of the ocean against the dramatic rock setting as this, is special. We enjoyed the sunrises while sipping coffee, and a glass of wine in the evening to take it all in. The house is comfortable, very clean, orginized, and well stocked. The location is ideal...far away yet close enough to charming Hilo, and all the sights in the area. We did venture to the Kona side to the city of refuge where the spinner dolphins rest. I snorkeled with about 50 wild spinner dolphins. It was an expeience of a lifetime. But the Kona side seemed to crowded. The town of Pahoa...just minutes down the road has great places to eat. Kaleo's was our favorite. Quality dishes with live entertainment. We would recommend the home to our friends. Judi always answered the phone if we had a question about anything. Truly a unique home.

Owner response:I'm happy that you were pleased with your vacation experience in our home. Thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful review. We also find the Kona side too crowded and busy, but I'm glad you got to swim with the dolphins, that is a truly unique experience. No matter where you go to visit for the day, it is always so nice to come home to this oceanfront home and relax. Come and visit us again. Mahalo Judi

On the Oceanfront

Guest: Mickey and Barbie (United States)
Date of Stay: 04/14/10 Review Submitted: 04/27/10

Arriving at the Oceanfront home reminded me of the old T.V. shows where the camera would zoom in on the front door as the butler swung the door wide open. In that same fashion, Judi was there waiting for us and gave us a quick guided tour. This tour included the elevator which saved us so much time unloading our supplies. The guide books, maps, and other travel information at the house were very helpful making plans for those day trips. Because the house was located close to so many of the area attractions we had exploring time, not driving time. This made it easier to be home in time to cook a great dinner and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the ocean waves crashing into the shoreline immediately in front of us. One of my favorite things was grabbing a hot cup of coffee and watching the sun rise from the roof. This was usually followed by using the automatic window washers to clean the windows as we watched for turtles or moved the binoculars so we could watch the horizon for any lingering whales. The fishermen that came to fish from the cliffs were amazing to watch. The waves that blast against the shoreline are so powerful. They send spray high into the air and reverberate deep rhythmic sounds that reach the primal parts of your very being. My soul was refreshed, energized, and calmed by the repetition of the different tones ranging from the deep bass of thunder to the sharp clap of waves driven by wind and rain. The oceanfront house was like a fortress to us. It served us well and gave us the gift of renewal. It gave us an opportunity to experience all our senses: the smell of the freshest air on earth, the feel of the warm sun as it broke through the morning clouds, the taste of the salt spray as the waves showered the rocks, the changing canvas of the ocean as the sun and shadows changed it from deep blue to Turquoise to foamy white, and the sound of the unrelenting surf. Both Jeff and Judi were easy to contact while we planned this trip, during our stay, and have already credited our deposit. They prepared the house which helped us make the most of our limited amount of time. It was the perfect place to experience and explore the Hilo side of the Big Island. We will be back.

Owner response:Thank you guys for such a great review. I have to admit it is pretty hard to not enjoy yourself in this house, the ocean provides you with an always changing show that you never get tired of. I have never been in a home with better views in my 45 years of living in Hawaii, so we are truly lucky to have found this lot and built this home. I'm glad we could share it with you. Mahalo

Wonderful stay in remote Pahoa!

Guest: from one island to another (Salt Spring Island, Canada)
Date of Stay: 03/07/10 Review Submitted: 03/20/10

We stayed seven days and had a wonderful time. The house was spacious, beautiful, and incredibly well stocked! Everything we could think of was already provided (snorkel equipment, beach chairs, spices, laundry detergent, EVERYTHING!) We took our kids to the nearby hot thermal pools for snorkeling and swimming almost every day. A day trip to the volcano, Hilo Farmer's Market, watching whales, watching storms come and go, walking through the forest, and exploring the lava flows - all kept us busy but my favourite was watching all the fishermen fishing off the rocks around the home. One night they fished all night long - It was spectacular to watch. Our only difficulty was with the garage door but Judi warned us about that and made it clear to call if it got too difficult (we didn't need to though). The house was like a home away from home. Very relaxing and fun! Thank you!

Owner response:Thank you for the wonderful review. I'm glad you enjoyed the fishermen, they were actually my favorite thing to watch when we lived in the home also. I could sit in my living room with my binoculars and watch all the action, without ever getting up from my chair. It was a pleasure to meet your family, and I hope we see you again in the future. Tsunami Survivors

What a lovely "home" to stay in for a week, which really isn't enough time to spend on this beautiful island. We spent hours on the lanai just watching and listening to the ocean, with each incoming wave giving us an awesome sight. Also the whales provided us with spectacular shows many days and the sea turtles showed themselves a few times. The ocean truly is your front yard! If you enjoy rural living this home is ideally located for exploring the east, north and south sides of the island. There are several interesting places to visit each with their own appeal - volcanoes, waterfalls, green and black sand beaches, farmers markets, shopping areas and excellent locally owned restaurants. Our hosts, Judi and Jeff, were so gracious and helpful to us especially on the day of the tsunami. A special "thank you" to them for opening their own home up to us for the few hours of evacuation. If you want to feel completely at ease and have all the comforts of your own home and possibly more we highly recommend staying at this inviting ocean home.

Owner response:Thank you so much for the wonderful review. It really was a pleasure to meet your whole "family" you guys were great guests. We did have the tsunami scare, but we all ended up having a pleasant afternoon "camping out" at my home waiting for the all clear to sound. It is always great to hear people express that they enjoy the home as much as we do. Hope we see you again Mahalo Judi and Jeff

Great house, awesome location

Date of Stay: 12/25/09 Review Submitted: 01/10/10

Everything was as described on the website, and Judi was most helpful to us. Since we arrived on Christmas Day, it was a nice touch that Judi had a poinsettia on the dining table for us! Minor issues had to do with garage door malfunction, dead batteries in remotes, telephone confusion...but all of these were very minor compared to the good things. It was nice to have so many things provided with the house. I would recommend this home to friends and family, but probably not if they have children. It seems like there wouldn't be much for them to do there. There certainly was not a beach or a place to swim safely. It was great for those of us who enjoy sitting with a MaiTai and watching the ocean crashing into the lava rocks on shore. We were concerned about the weather on this side of the island, but we couldn't have asked for it to be nicer. Certainly made it hard to come home to below zero temps in the MidWest.

Owner response:Thank you for your kind review. We have actually had a lot of families with kids stay with us. We have had twin 2 year olds who sat in front of the big windows and watched the ocean all day long.. We have also had a family with 3 teenage boys, who are always a hard crowd to please, and the boys said they thought this was the most awesome house they had ever been in. And we have certainly had lots of kids in between these ages. So, although this is a nice quiet neighborhood, there are a lot of things to see and do close by. Families hike out and view the active lava flow, swim in thermal hot ponds, swim and snorkel in crystal clear tide pools, visit botanical gardens and swim and snorkel at black sand beaches (to name just a few activities) . All this just 20 to 30 minutes from the home. One family took their 16 year old son to the other side of the island to ride the zip line tour for his 16th birthday, and they said it was the highlight of their vacation. So all in all people of all ages have enjoyed this home, and there really are a lot of activities close by, or within a pleasant day trip of the home. Thanks again for choosing our home. Mahalo Judi

Perfect vacation

Jeff and Judi were the perfect hosts to our vacation. Anything we needed was there for us...the kitchen was well stocked and i only needed to buy food(Plastic wrap, napkins, paper towels, all kinds of spices and snacks, soups, etc...) not to mention all laundry supplies and more. The pictures of the home speak for themselves, it is a beautiful setting and and right next to a beautiful park. And when we did need anything they were there in a jiffy and so gracious. Cannot say enough! Thanks to both of you.

Owner response:Thank you for the great review. I always try to clean and stock the home in a manner that I would like to find it if I were renting a home. Who wants to go out and buy toilet paper and laundry soap on your vacation!! Being the owner/manager/ housekeeper of our rental home, allows me to really keep an eye on things and make sure my guests are comfortable, and happy with the fact that they chose our home for their vacation. Thanks again for staying with us...Judi and Jeff

An "Executive Mansion on the Sea"

Guest: Skyhut (Silverton, Oregon - USA)
Date of Stay: 10/11/09 Review Submitted: 01/22/10

Judy & Jeff – a most amazing adventure! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here in your executive "honeymoon" mansion while expanding our real estate investment opportunities here on the Big Island. Our experience in staying at your oceanfront home exceeded all our expectations! Our stay was truly like our "home away from home". While overseeing our assets and inspecting new investment opportunities, we were able to see and experience the most beautiful orchid gardens, unique glass blowing artists at work, beautiful waterfalls, botanical gardens, steamy volcanoes, an easy-to-access lava tube, lava flowing into the Pacific, a walk on the black sands beach with locals, a trip up a deserted paved road to nearly 7,000 feet, unique species of birds, a walk among the coffee trees, tasted donkey balls, experience Polynesian and Hawaiian luaus (including hula dancers, fire dancers, musicians and more), a glass-bottomed evening dinner and entertainment cruise, meeting with setup crews - sponsors - participants and referees at the 2009 Iron Man Triathlon, lunch with Mary - a most wonderful 102 year-old woman in her teshima restaurant - and her loving recollections of having known my father, time on several white sand beaches, a helicopter tour of investment properties, and check out cattle ranches - farms - sanctuaries and retreats. Enough said... Thanks to you, we enjoyed our "free" time watching and listening to the sound of the great Pacific Ocean and relaxing without a care during our visit. Thanks again! Ron & Shirley

Owner response:I am always amazed at all the energy my guests have and all the exploring they do. There are so many great things to see and do on this side of the island, and it is always fun to take a day trip to the other side to experience all that has to offer too. I'm glad that you were comfortable in my home and that you enjoyed the great views. We have had several "honeymooners" stay here, and I think they found it a great place to vacation. Thanks again for the kind review. Mahalo Judi

We want to thank you kindly for allowing us to stay in your magnificant home. Your home far surpassed our high expectactions. We loved the incredible ocean views and breezes, the open feel of your home, and the many accomodations that you provide in the home, not to mention the friendly advice you provided to us from start to finish. You were very helpful to us in planning our entire vacation. In terms of location , we found your home to be tremendously convenient for snorkeling in the tide pools, visitng the hot springs, touring the lava trees and exploring the volcano areas, including the incredible night time viewing of the erupting volcano. Finally I must say that we were highly imnpressed with your well organized rental system. You personally helped my family build wonderful vacation memories. We cannot tell you how much we appreciated your friendly assistance and thoughtful advice from both 4000 miles away and throughout our stay in your home. Please accept our personal Mahalos and Alohas on behalf of our grateful family.

Owner response:Thank you for your kind review. We love our home, and are always happy to find out that other people are as excited about it as we are. The views and location do make it a perfect vacation choice, and I thank you again for choosing us. Mahalo Judi

Awesome House

The view is awesome from this house. You watch the waves crash from the back windows. There were not any surprises when we arrived, the house is accurately represented on this web site. The house is bigger and the view more amazing than expected. There was just the two of us, but would make a good choice for three couples as each bedroom was private, and the kitchen/dining/living room was upstairs, accommodating different schedules. Plenty of towels, utensils, etc to make yourself at home. Take the road immediately out front through the jungle to a great tide pool area. Great way to spend the day.

Thank you for loaning us your home. We enjoyed falling asleep and waking up to the ocean breeze and sounds. Our kids enjoyed watching the waves splash against the rocks. It truly feels like you're on the ocean without the threat of getting seasick. We were able to visit the lava viewing area, as it is less than 30 minutes from the house. Great house Great location Great island !!

Owner response:Your kids were a joy to meet, they couldn't have been cuter, and I'm glad you all enjoyed the ocean views.

Thank you for sharing your extrordinary home with us. We enjoyed viewing the spectacular ocean meeting the rocky lava shoreline, with blue waves turning icy blue. The power of the ocean, and its wide expanse, leaves a memory of awe. The lush green surroundings, with the whole area covered in giant ferns, palms and leaves, was like having a botanical garden surrounding us wherever we drove. Although our visits to lava fields and Hawaii Volcano Nationial Park was a stark contrast, the beauty of seeing new earth being created will also be something we will not forget. Our vacation in your home, which provided everything we needed, we will not forget. Thank you Judi and Jeff !!!!

Owner response:Thank you for choosing us. I'm glad you found our home comfortable and well stocked, and our views spectacular..come visit us again anytime...

It truely is like being on the bow of a ship in the comfort of your living room. Because the house is situated on a point and next to a park, the waves crashing beneath you and the views all around were fabulous. The house was immaculate, the layout was very relaxing, and the amenities gave you all the creature comforts of home. With family in tow, luggage, and grandma who had, had a knee replacement the elevator was exremely helpful ! Although we had many day trips planned exploring the falls, botanical gardens, volcanos park, and lava tubes , we would have had a great time just relaxing at the house. I would definitly recommend this place !! Judi, you were so warm and welcoming, you made us feel at home immediately. Mahalo Neil and Linda

Owner response:Thanks so much for staying at our home. I clean the house myself, so I make sure it is immaculate for all my guests. I'm glad that you found the house well stocked, and all your needs were met. Please come again.. Aloha

The architecture of this house is truly beautiful, with a view from every window. The cupola ceiling is lovely. We loved the sights, sounds, tastes of the island. Some of the things we enjoyed were Kona coffee, fresh fruit and seafood. We even bought a coconut, brought it home and made a fresh coconut pie. We are going back to the mainland relaxed and refreshed. Than you so much for sharing."

The view was stunning everyday, and the location is private yet close to town for dining and some shopping. Your pictures do not do it justice. It is much better in person than you could imagine, and the elevator was great for our 13 bags. We look forward to coming back to the Big Island and hopefully staying again. The experience with the view of the ocean has been awesome!! Mahalo and Aloha

Most relaxing vacation we've every had!!!!

Date of Stay: 09/09/08 Review Submitted: 10/02/10

The house is absolutely wonderful! It was immaculate, well stocked with cooking utensils and condiments as well as snorkel equipment in the garage. Judi could not have been more helpful. She met us at the house and gave us a tour which included how to use the window washers. That really came in handy since they accumulate salt from the ocean breeze. My favorite thing was the little tide pool right in front of the house. It is soooo cool to sit in the 3' pool and let the ocean waves splash over you. We enjoyed the watching the turtles from the upper balcony. It was fun to watch the locals spear fishing in front of the house. They had a stringer of about a dozen Parrot Fish. Great sunbathing up there, too. Judi has provided a notebook with all the major attraction in the Pahoa area as well as the rest of the island. This was very helpful in planning our activities. Be sure and go ATVing. Great fun!! Our walk out on the lava to watch the explosions as the 2000 degree lava sprays into the ocean and forms black sand was spectacular. Soaking in the hot fresh water springs at the ocean edge was so relaxing. Be sure and enjoy the local cuisine - what a treat. There is a guest book at the house and lots of good comments and suggestions of things to do or not do. This was very helpful, also. We stayed two weeks and it just wasn't long enough. Next year we plan to stay 3 weeks in January and watch the whales migrate. You will not be disappointed if you choose to stay at the "White" house. Lawana & Jimmie

Owner response:Aloha Jimmie and Lawana, thank you for the kind review. Jimmie has asked me to fix the date on their review. They visited my house just last month in September 2010, but somehow it came up in the review as 2008. So I will use this space to make the correction and to thank you both for choosing my home. It was a pleasure to meet you, and you are both very adventurous travelers, and tried lots of new experiences. Next time we'll get you on the zip line. Mahalo Judi
