In the heart of the Vaucluse region of Provence is the town of L'Isle sur la Sorgue. Renown for it's Antique shops and often referred to as "the Venice of France", the village is a maze of waterways and winding streets, a melange of galleries and cafés, a historians delight and an artists dream.
In the center of town, resting beside the river, "Le Rosier", (named for the vivid pink rose which has spend decades climbing the front of the house) is centuries old, was restored from it's near derelict state and has recently undergone a complete redecoration and update. With comfort, tranquility, light and space uppermost in mind, the result is all of that...and more. With windows on three sides of the house, the light pours in adding to that open and spacious feel.
There are two bedrooms, each with a private shower room with w.c., hand basin and heated towel rails. The bedroom on the top floor has a queen sized bed or two twin beds. The bedroom on the ground floor has a queen sized bed or two twin beds ... whichever suits you best. Both bedrooms have oodles of hanging and shelf space and are decorated in whites, creams, warm wood and Italian floor tiling.
The first floor is one large open area with a full kitchen (where you'll also find the washing machine, a dining area, and a living area. All 'together' but 'apart'! Squishy sofa and armchairs, glass and iron coffee table, local television with a selection of English channels as well. DVD and a CD music system with a library of varying tastes.
An antique wooden dining table and chairs. A kitchen with bulging cupboards, masses of utensils ... just awaiting your creative instincts (and juices) to take over!
At one end of this living area there is a fabulous French sliding door which opens onto a narrow balcony where the famous pink rose grows contentedly.....well, it will when the new one is planted this spring...sadly my gorgeous rose went to rose heaven!. With the river right there, one of the towns famous moss covered water wheels turning slowly, the sun pouring in, the green trees and rooftops are your neighbors... a very calming spot to be.
The terrace on the top floor offers dining table and chairs, gas BBQ and lots of sunshine... or shade, depending on your preference.
If you feel like a quiet moment apart, the ground floor sitting room is where you can sit quietly to write your postcards, read your book, answer the dreaded emails (WIFI throughout the house), or simply snooze.
More than enough space for four people... and all just a few minutes walk to the bakery, the market, the buzz of village life and the sites that encompass all. Whether you prefer pen and paper, camera or paint brush... L'Isle sur la Sorge overflows with inspiration.
"Le Rosier" has central heating for the cooler months and fans for the warmer times. There is private parking for one car in a nearby garage...4 minutes walk away.

Why the Owner Chose L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue
L'Isle sur la Sorgue is a "town that resembles a village". Large enough to hold great interest, small enough to be intimate and welcoming. A picturesque village with a colourful population, a village that thrives all year round. The history and architecture, the water-ways and artistic influences, the plethora of antique and second-hand shops, restaurants from one end of the scale to the other....a sophisticated simplicity I feel comfortable with and thoroughly enjoy! All good enough reasons to invest in the village!
The Unique Benefits at this House
Central "L'Isle sur la Sorgue" is quite literally a island. Surrounded by waterways, known as "the Venise of Provence", the village history and it's geographic features make it unique. My house is on the island, in a residential 'quartier' and within a 4 minute walk to the main square. Situated on the corner of two quiet streets, and with the back terrace facing rooves, treetops and gardens below, the sunshine and light poor in all day long. Having private parking makes life so much easier even if the village does have plenty of street parking!
Michelin starred and well worth the not so expensive price. Situated by the river, a gentle sophistication to the decor, a truly delicious memory if you care to indulge!
Another delightful taste sensation to be experienced here. Outdoor courtyard, or indoors for the cooler months. See the river flowing underground through the glass floor at the entrance!
My two studios, ready at the end of June 2009. Contact me for rental details.
A wine and cheese shop worth visiting.....but at the back of the shop is a delightful wine bar where you can sip some beautiful wines. Not a tourist spot....most don't know about it. Why am I writin

As with so many other people the world over, France has always been a favourite holiday destination for me. Such a long way and oh so different from my Australian origins, Provence is a joy to visit with a never ending supply of new places to discover and explore. During years of living and travelling throughout the world, visitng France often, I discovered that it is ideally and centrally located for visits to the surrounding coutries such as Spain, Italy, Switzerland, England.....etc. etc. etc. the world is on your doorstep. With a fascinating culture, heritage, architecture, geography, attitude and life-style .... what more can one ask?!

Our 8 week stay at Le Rosier

We celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary spending 8 weeks in Provence in the bucolic town of L'Isle sur la Sorgue, and were very fortunate to have chosen Le Rosier as our home away from home. This 3 story townhouse with two bedrooms with bathrooms was perfect for our needs, as 4 couples visited us on separate occasions for several days at a time. The second floor kitchen, dining area and living room even had its own balcony overlooking one of the nine remaining waterwheels that L'Isle sur Sorgue is noted for. A unique feature was the third floor terrace with gas barbecue which we used often for dinner or 'happy hour' with wine and cheese. Another plus is having one's own parking garage. I can't even begin to describe how helpful Pamela was to us; we received a new refrigerator the first day, a new barbecue soon thereafter, and frequent visits to make sure all was well with us. The topper, however, was the help she gave me when I had an emergency visit to the local dentist for a cracked tooth; Pam recommended the dentist, and even went with me the second visit to interpret. Her help made all the difference. The town is perfectly located for visiting Provence, and has its own little train station for longer trips to for example Marseille or Nice. L'Isle sur Sorgue has the best and biggest markets in the region, and innumerable cafe's and restaurants and shops. A great way to start one's trip is to walk around the river on one's first day, especially with guests. There's a photo shoot on every corner. I especially recommend the boulangerie La Banette for the world's best croissants, sipping coffee with those croissants at Cafe de la Sorgue on the waterfront, and having at least one meal at a great restaurant Le Prevote and if open a real bargain L'ousteau de L'Isle, or sipping wine and cheese at Cafe 17. The best lunch for the price anywhere , however, is Le Pistou in the wine village of Chateauneuf de Pape with a 3 course meal to die for for only 13 euro !! After lunch there taste wine with Danielle at the Best Vintage Cave, then purchase chocolate at the large shop outside the village. This is a perfect afternoon in Provence !! I also strongly recommend longer visits to Gorges du Verdon ( stay in Moustiers-Ste-Marie - the perfect French hill town ), Nice, and Marseille; the latter two best by train. Drive around the Cotes du Rhone wine road and explore the Luberon; see Aix, Avignon, Orange and Nimes. Le Rosier and Provence - an A +++ !!!
Owner response:What a treat it was to read your review Mike and relive your time here with you. I'm so very pleased that the happy memories of your 50th wedding anniversary are all tied up with L'Isle sur la Sorgue and Le Rosier. What a chuckle it was at the dentist, though not comfortable for you it was certainly one of life's experiences that we were able to smile about even at the time! Your "home away from home" for those eight weeks is part of me and I do try very hard to make sure it's comfortable for everyone. Many thanks for your feedback, greatly appreciated.

L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue was the perfect place to use as a base for visiting Provence and this was the perfect house!. There were 2 couples and the way the house was set up was great...2 sitting areas, 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The kitchen is well equipped and the rooftop is where we ate just about every meal that we prepared. Pam was the perfect hostess with great ideas. This house was everything and more that was described. If we go back to this area we would definitely stay there again!
Owner response:You're a gem, thanks for the kind words and recommendation. You're right, the two bedrooms/two bathrooms and those two sitting rooms plus the terrace.....there's room for being together as a group or apart, a little 'space' for some quiet time makes the world of difference to a relaxing vacation doesn't it. Thank you for taking the time to write your review, I appreciate it.

Four of us stayed here in June (two Aussies and two Pommies) and we all agreed it was perfect. The kitchen is more than well-equipped, the beds are comfortable, the sitting rooms are designed for those who wish to be peaceful and those who wish to be sociable and the terrace was the bee's knees with the only BBQ we came across in our travels around Europe. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue was central to all the places we wanted to visit and it was excellent to come home, hot and tired, after a long day to the cool of our water wheel and the Le Rosier. We will return!
Owner response:What a kick it is to receive these wonderful reviews! A super surprise and heartwarming....thank you. I do try to make my house and apartments 'home away from home' as we all like. I try to offer everything I would expect as a renter....PLUS the little added extras that make such a difference. From time to time I'm able to stay at Le Rosier,( La Niche Cachee or The Loft...my two apartments in the town) and it's on those occassions that I'm able to 'tweek' and refine and add to and enjoy! All good fun and so rewarding when such appreciation is shown. Le Rosier has, over these cooler months, undergone a face lift, had a new roof installed and has been completely repainted throughout. Father Christmas has delivered a new rose as my poor 100 year old one finally turned up its toes. So 2011 is here, we're fresh and ready to roll.....and hopefully the new rose will be the icing on the cake for Le Rosier!

This is the perfect place for 2 couples or a family with older children. Pam's attention to detail was superb...lots of guides, Provence information, decorative touches, cookbooks. The kitchen was fully equipped, the rooftop terrace a delight, the bedrooms and bathrooms were convenient and comfortable. We loved being in Isle sur la Sorgue as our base for the week, and the Sunday market was fantastic and so fun. Pam was very quick to answer any questions we had prior to our trip and was great to deal with. The only concern I would have is if someone in the party had trouble with stairs...there are a lot of them. We loved it here and would definitely recommend it to friends!
Owner response:Thanks so much for writing your review Donna, sorry it's taken me so long to send my appreciation. You're right, there are stairs at the house, but as with all stairs, care and attention and all is well! The beauty of the centuries old properties in the center of any medieval village, is that they are just that....old, full of character and often with a few quirks! Single store houses did not exist in those days so stairs are a must. Spare a thought for me when I'm trying to juggle the furniture in and out and......oh la la....the number of times I've taken things out over the balcony onto the top of a waiting truck, now there's a photo opportunity!! Thankfully it's not a busy street but those who do happen upon one of my "let's rearrange the furniture" days have always been very patient...and amused!

We rented Le Rosier for a week in early September with another couple and highly recommend this property both as a central location within Provence to make day trips, but also it's charm & location within I'sle Sur La Sorgue. It's easily walkable to all of I'sle Sur La Sorgue's many shops, cafes, boulangeries, and weekly markets. Relaxing on the deck each night with wine and cheese was a great end to the day. Le Rosier is set up well for 2 couples: 1st floor suite & sitting room; 2nd floor kitchen & living room; 3rd floor suite and deck. There is a water wheel across from the front door & parking is included.
Owner response:The upstairs terrace is also one of my favourite places. It's quiet and comfortable, an ideal spot for sunbaking, reading, catching up on emails (if that's what one must do on holidays!) and of course the essential cocktail hour and dinner al fresco.....great spot to be. Many thanks for your feedback and for taking the time to write. I'm sure these reviews are helpful to others, they certainly are to me.

Le Rossier is the perfect vacation retreat situated on an ancient street across from a water wheel that has turned for many centuries. It's purpose now is to offer comfort to the fortunate travellers who return each evening from a wonderful day exploring Provence. Pam has created a wonderful oasis of comfort for her guests. No detail has been overlooked. This was my third trip to Provence and this is by far the nicest place I have rented. I can't say enough nice things about this rental. Pam was right there to meet us, after giving flawless directions. She will also come get you if you get lost. I will say just one last thing. If you wish to rent this property, reserve early, it rents very quickly. Pam,,once again, Thank you so very much. Martha and Judy
Owner response:Can't tell you how pleasing it is to hear from happy renters. Happy because my "blood, sweat and tears" are appreciated and very happy that L'Isle sur la Sorgue, the Vaucluse and Provence in general are much loved. I must admit I find great pleasure in my house and, having lived there myself for several years (and often wish I still did!), I'm able to pass on to everyone the hints and tips for total enjoyment. The hints that others give me are always very helpful too and I endeavour to make everyone's wishes come true. Currently my beloved climbing rose (hence the name 'Le Rosier') has passed away after 70 years of being "bloomin' gorgeous" !! If anyone can advise on a sturdy, multi-blooming climbing rose to replace it, I'd greatly appreciate advice! Thanks again Martha and Judy, it was great fun meeting two adventurous ladies!

We stayed a week in this lovely home in L'Isle sur la Sorgue. It was so lovely to come home each day to such a wonderful, peaceful space. I cooked lovely meals and Pam's home has everything you need to do that with ease. The Sunday market there in town is a must see event. Every turn had wonderful choices of fresh produce, olives, cheeses, clothing, pottery, tablecloths of provence and more...It was a delightful day and magical week. Pam was very helpful and was there to meet us when we arrrived. She thought of everything to make our stay just a perect Provence vacation. I would highly recommend staying in this house if you wish to tour the area of Provence and have a beautiful and comfortable home as well.
Owner response:What a wonderful surprise to read your review Nancy, very many thanks for your thoughts and words, greatly appreciated. I do love my house in L'Isle sur la Sorgue and get such a buzz from others enjoying it too. When I bought the house it was for me to live in, as I did for several years, so location, terrace, garage, equal bedrooms/bathrooms and lots of space and light were my priorities. Thankfully, as I'm discovering along the way, others have the same priorities! Many thanks again. Pam.

We stayed in Pam's lovely house in 2009 and have reserved three weeks n 2010. The house felt like our home away from home. It is decorated beautifully and is very comfortable. We especially enjoyed barbequing and eating on the deck. The kitchen is very well equipped and was very good to cook in. The house was immaculate and it was very nice to have it refreshed during our stay. The location of the house is ideal. Just a very short walk to the market, our favorite bakery, the butcher and any number of restaurants. Of course Isle is perfectly located for wonderful day trips but if one chose there is everything you would need within walking distance of the house. Pam is also a delight and is very accomodating to your needs.
Owner response:L'Isle sur la Sorgue is such a special village/town....it's the size of a town but with the atmosphere of a village. The waterways, the markets, the antiques and the choice of cafes, bars, restaurants ...... all year round it's a delightful place to live or visit. For all the years I've lived here, it just gets better and better. My house I love too .... and for that reason love to look after it, to present it well and to see others enjoying it and returning, as Harry and Judy have done. My sincere thanks for their review and kind words. My attitude with the house is "what would I expect to find.....and what extras would I Iove to find at the house", so I do my best to provide all!
