Wonderful restful oasis. Our family will have fond memories of wading in the Blanco, sitting by the fire pit, playing bocce ball and horseshoes, working a jigsaw puzzle together while the young ones in our group played with the toys provided by our Host. Great way to spend a day or a month!

This is probably the finest property that we have stayed at in 7 years. It was fantastic! Lots of things to do at the home as well as in the area. Cannot express adequately how wonderful the home and the property were for the family.

A definite must for everyone to enjoy! The house was very clean. The riverfront was a few steps away and we saw deer on the few walks we took right on the property, just like in the video! We did take advantage of the fire pit to make s'mores after using the outside grill to prepare a nice dinner. We have stayed at other homes that did not have trash bags or even salt and pepper but the availability of these items in your pantry for your guests to use shows the level of hospitality we felt!! The toys and variety of movies is also a nice touch. Thank you for allowing us to share in your space.

For my husband's and son's birthdays I wanted to surprise them with a family weekend convenient to Houston, Austin, and Dallas. I wanted to incorporate shopping, golf, nature, and family time. So I looked up Wimberley. I found the Shade Ranch website and made a call. The owner was so nice and easy to work with. I had lots of questions, and by the time our phone call ended, I was so excited about our upcoming weekend. The pictures are accurate, but I would say the house and grounds are even more beautiful in living color. Casa Grande, the big house is very welcoming and homey feeling with everything families need for a weekend or longer. We had a group of 10 in the house for three days. We visited Wimberley Trade Days, a couple of restaurants in town, and some of the famly members golfed at nearby Wood Creek (10 min.away). Most of the time we just stayed around the house and enjoyed the amenities. The house is spacious with plenty of sitting areas, and a well stocked kitchen with everything you need to cook. The outdoor sitting was very inviting with a great view of the blanco river and the evening sunset! We grilled and made a fire in the fire pit to roast marshmallows. The hot tub was ready for us, although we did not take advantage of it this time. We ventured down the trail to the river. It is a little steep, but most people could handle the walk. The river was gorgeous, and there were chairs to relax in. We walked the grounds during the day and watched many deer scatter into the bushes. Overall, our family weekend was perfect and I would recommend Shade Ranch to everyone. We hope to return again very soon.

We used the property for a large weekend gathering and absolutely loved it. We maxed out the capacity but everyone was comfortable and enjoyed the time together. The property ~ both the land and the home ~ is truly beautiful, and the owner did a great job of taking care of us and our needs. The home was clean and had everything we needed for a great experience. The firepit and hot tub were terrific perks as well. We'll definitely come back!

We made a last minute booking and Roby was quick to respond and very friendly. The directions we were given from Austin took us down a lovely road that we had never been down. Casa Grande is indeed a sprawling house. We had 6 adults and a kid in our party and had plenty of room. The master bedroom was perfect for the couple with their small child. I did think ( probably my fault) that there were two queen beds in addition, but there was only one. The remaining room has twin beds, but they are comfy and we did not mind. Everything was clean and well stocked. The hot tub was ready to go when we arrived...a huge plus! And the small house next door was unoccupied so we had the entire property to ourselves. This is a really pretty spot on the river and I would recommend a visit. I think part of our party is already making plans to return with their visiting family!

Our family -- and extended family -- has visited Shade Ranch together during Christmas Break the past 2 years. It's already a family tradition! We had 7 adults (representing 5 different households), 3 kids, and our mutt together in perfect harmony -- that doesn't usually happen in "real life!" We've all talked about how there is just the perfect living, playing, and quiet space for everyone. We could be together when we wanted to or break away to different parts of the house or property for quiet activities. Nature walks, cookouts, bocce, reading, watching movies, card/board games (the owners have a stash of movies and games so we don't bring our own)...one year we didn't even go into Wimberley's cute town square that's only a 5-minute drive away because we just wanted to relax and hang out at "home." And, appealing to my nerdy side, cabinets/closets are labeled so it's easy-breezy to find gear (blankets, utensils, kitchen stuff, etc.) It's a fully-functioning house, so with 3 little ones the washer/dryer got some use. We have recommended this property to SO MANY friends that my only fear is that we won't be able to book it the next time we want to! The proprietors are wonderful and their attention to detail and love of the property is evident. We've even stayed at the smaller house on the property for just my husband & children during a summer vacation -- it was perfection, too. We've had dreams of declaring Squatters' Rights and just never leaving Shade Ranch!!

This is a great house for families (we shared it with another family with 4 small children in total) and for a relaxing time away from the kids (I rented it again with 3 others for a girls weekend). The spot on the river is so nice, with water even during the horrible drought we've had this year. There are plenty of beds but the bunk and trundle are in a common area, so take that into consideration when planning your stay. The master is huge and private. The other two bedrooms share a bathroom and are off the main living area. We used the outside area for meals - large table and gas grill - and spent a lot of time sitting in the chairs provided down at the river. There are some water toys and rafts at the house and lots of kid toys and games, which was a nice surprise. The location is great, with a grocery store close by and just a short drive to shops and restaurants. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. We will be back.

This was a wonderful place for our family to vacation. The property is situated on a lovely stretch of the Blanco river which was perfect for swimming, fishing, or just watching the stars hang over the water. The house was charmingly decorated, clean, and well-maintained. The shelves were well stocked with games and books for every age, which I found to be a particularly good touch. Most rental properties do not have this much attention to detail. We will definitely be back!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The house was wonderful and easily big enough for the very large group we were staying with (6 adults and 7 kids). The kids really enjoyed the river and hiking through the woods. Easy access to local attractions, including several lovely wineries. We can't overemphasize what a great time we had at "Casa Grande," and we hope to return soon.

My family and I spent my youngest daughter's wedding weekend at Shade Ranch. The house felt warm and welcoming. OK...I became the family hero for finding such a wonderful place to spend the weekend. I didn't let on that this was one of the easiest parts of planning the wedding. It was great to have a relaxing place to retreat to after the wedding festivities! The property was clean and supplied with everything you could possibly need. The owner was very helpful and e-mailed me right away if I had any questions. It was great to view the water still flowing in the river during our Texas drought. We all agreed that we wanted to return in the future to have a family reunion.

My entire family spent a week at Shade Ranch in Wimberley expecting to visit other areas close by but we had such a good time on the river that we didn't go anywhere else. This vacation property was the perfect backdrop to an amazing girls' weekend getaway. We rented both houses on the property and they were both exquisite. There were 14 of us and everyone had a bed and slept comfortably. The views of the river from the main living area of the Casa Grande were gorgeous and serene. Both houses were furnished with comfort and care, and they had all of the amenities you could want or need. And the private section of river was absolutely perfect! There were plenty of tubes provided and several chairs on the riverfront. The garden landscaping around the property was beautiful. It's obvious that these owners truly love and care about this property and it shows. We can't wait to go back! Thanks so much!!

Our stay is one we will remember. This was the first time to get our rather large family together for a vacation. The facilities were clean, well kept, and everything we needed. The only issue we had was the amount of clorine the maintaince man put in the hot tub. It was so strong the fumes burned our eyes keeping us out. We had difficulty using it during the rest of our stay. The water was fabulous. The grounds were very nice and the horseshoe pit my boys especially liked. Thank you for opening up your home so we could feel at home, Lou Ann Rhodes

The house was just what we we're looking for and much bigger than we expected. In our opinion there is no better spot on the Blanco River, the private river access is perfect for families with children of all ages. The owner was very accessible through email with any questions even though he was out of the country and there was a property manager able to be easily reached as well. We had a great trip and are already planning our next stay!

To owners: We had fabulous time at Shade Ranch. My family is from Eastern Europe and even after 15 years of living in Texas most of them still haven't wormed up to appreciating Texas and it's own authentic character and beauty. Through my job I become quite familiar with Texas and I started enjoying it here. My parents however still kept looking for things that remind them of Europe and kept missing what was in front of them. Well that changed after our visit to Shade Ranch. Now all they talk about is how amazing the Hill Country is, and how they must show it to all our visiting family and friends. Thank you sincerely for that opportunity. To other visitors: The river is amazingly beautiful at this property, with plenty of water despite a severe drought that happen to coincide with our stay. There are both shallows and deeps, which means cool river fun for everyone. Kids loved the bocce court next to the house, and the patio with BBQ overlooking the river was my favorite spot day and night. If you are into scenic photography, this is the dream place for you. We also enjoyed the short ride down the River Road to Wimberley. If you are out of Texas, don't miss a true Texas BBQ experience at Salt Lick, about 15 minute drive. The house has everything you would need for total relaxation. One thing we specially appreciated was several boxes of toys and children books. That was really thoughtful and allowed the adults to have their own good time and conversation. I wish I wasn't giving it such a positive review since it is only going to make it harder to book this house again but I can't help it :) We'll sure try to come again.

My family stayed at the Casa Grande in May 2011. There were 7 of us and we had room to spare. The house is large, and the living area toward the rear was a favorite gathering spot--that and the large patio table just outside. We made use of the hot tub, but it was the river that got everyone to join in. Though the water level was a bit low, there was plenty for relaxing in a tube. We had such a good time we may have to do this again in the fall or winter. This is a great place to gather your family or friends and get away from it all...and still be less than 5 miles from a grocery store :-)

We had a group of 14 for a weekend stay at the Casa Grande at Shade Ranch. There was plenty of space for everyone with multiple settings for people to congregate both inside and out. The outdoor area adjacent to the house was well manicured and inviting with an Austin Stone fire pit, horse shoes, and outdoor dining area (with a large gas grill). Needless to say, the house and sleeping quarters exceeded expectations. The pictures don't quite capture the fullness of the house. The river view is amazing from both inside the house and the outdoor patio area. At the river level, there is plenty of room for sun bathing on the grass. It’s also a good little fishing spot and a great place to swim. Too early for two trips in a month? I’m already planning my second visit for later this month. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Casa Grande at Shade Ranch is a truly amazing property at a very affordable price, considering what you get for your money. It is huge, with plenty of space for a family gathering or a friends' getaway. There were only five of us there for a girls' vacation, but there would have been more than enough space for twice that many people. All of the beds and furniture were very comfortable, which is not always the case with VRBO's. The River Room was our favorite area inside the house, but there are so many living and sitting spaces in the house that you can easily find a quiet place to read a book or get away by yourself. The pictures are accurate, but they don't do justice to this fantastic place. It was perfect for us! The house had everything you could possibly need, and then some! It is close enough to town that you can easily go to the grocery store and shops, but it is far enough away and secluded enough to allow you to relax and de-stress. The 25 acre property is quite a selling point as well. We waded in the water, and this 57 year old actually went swimming in the river in March...exhilarating! We sat out by the river with a glass of wine each evening to watch the gorgeous sunset. The sound and the beauty of nature surrounded us. You can also take nice long walks on the property and be mesmerized by the wildlife. We saw deer every day, but one morning we saw 11 or 12 deer of all different ages. If we vacation in the Texas Hill Country again, we will surely try to rent this property. In fact, one of the girls on our trip has already returned to rent the "Little House" with her husband and their two dogs.

Every Spring my three adult daughters and I go away for a "girls weekend", and this year we chose Shade Ranch in Wimberley. When we arrived we were so thrilled that the property and house exceeded our expectations. The rooms were clean and spacious and the view of the river was beautiful. Even though the property seems far from the "hustle and bustle" of busy life, it is close to the city, restaurants, shops, etc. When we arrived we discovered that there was much more to do in Wimberly than we expected. Our only regret is that we had not planned to stay longer. We liked the Broken Arrow Rock Shop, the Bella Vista Ranch and the specialty shops. Although we did some cooking in the well-equiped, clean kitchen at Shade Ranch, we also enjoyed the Wimberley restaurants. I would certainly recommend Shade Ranch and I hope to return there again.

Stayed at the ranch for a couple of nights for a country getaway with the kids and they really enjoyed it. Although it rained nonstop the whole time we were there, they still enjoyed looking out all the big picture windows at the river and woods surrounding the house. We even saw deer twice on the property - the kids loved that! The house was comfortable and homey with plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Would love to come back and explore when it's sunny out!

Our family had an amazing time at Shade Ranch. There were 14 of us, and we had room to spare. All of the kids loved the river, the swimming, floating and adventures it offered. My father in law loved the attempt at fly fishing. Each morning we took a walk down to the river then up to the gate to look at the deer and take in the sunrise. One morning, I think I even spotted a small fox. The house more than lived up to our expectations. It was so nice for all of us to sit down at a meal together, and in the evening we all sat in the living room cuddled up with blankets and watched a movie. Our time on the river was perfect for our toddlers, teenagers and adults. What we thought would be a one time family get away, transformed into a true family retreat. All of the kids were sad to leave the place where they had formed a deeper bond with their cousins. Before we drove off, they asked if we could all continue to live together. We will definitely be back for our next family retreat. Thank you for so graciously sharing your home.

We recently stayed at Shade Ranch in July 2010 for our annual family river trip. We've been going to the Frio River for about 20 years, but decided to do something different and picked the Blano River & the town of Wimberely. We weren't disappointed - The Shade Ranch was clean, spacious, and had outstanding access to the river. We really enjoyed the privacy and being able to truely relax. The owner, Robert, was also great to work with and followed up with me on any requests. We highly recommend for a family outing and will be back next year!!

My only complaint about our stay at the Casa Grande on the Blanco was that we did not stay long enough! The house was immaculate, spacious and the river was close, clean and not too cold. The owner was organized and professional and provided necessary information. There were many thoughtful details including toys and videos for the kids, a well stocked kitchen and reading material. We would definitely recommend this property to a friend and our family is anticipating another stay next summer. There is lots to do in Wimberley, but we just enjoyed the river and had a great barbecue in the evening.

Our family had the most wonderful time in Wimberley at Shade Ranch. Our family vacation was a huge success. You have done a fantastic job on both houses and the grounds. We have never stayed anywhere that was better stocked and equipped than you have done at Shade Ranch. We never wanted for anything. Between the two houses, we had everything that we needed. Great rental home. Location overlooks the tree-lined river, it is quiet and very pretty. The house itself is large and very well proportioned, especially if you have a big group staying together. For 9 adults we had plenty of room to feel comfortable wrt sleeping and dining / seating. Dogs are also comfortably accommodated here. The kitchen is well equipped, as are the bedrooms for linen, and overall the whole place feels clean and well looked after. It's an easy walk into Wimberley but nice to be out of town, in a quieter location. As we stayed during the winter we made the most of the open fireplace, and the house was pretty warm - as was the jacuzzi! Would love to come back here in the summer to enjoy warmer climes and the river. Would thoroughly recommend.

"We were pleasantly surprised upon arrival to the property. The house surpassed our expectations. It is very large, open, and well equipped. We were traveling with young children ages 1 to 10, as well as adults 70+ with handicap limitations. The property accomodated both. The children had plenty of area to play outside and the river provided a natural "children's pool" that had 1 to 2 ft. of water. The one-story layout made it comfortable for the adults 70+. We fished, played in the river which had a maximim depth of about 4 ft., sat in the hot tub in the evenings, shopped, and enjoyed eating and playing outside near the house. Pros: Large home and property, River, Hottub, Good seating, Shopping and grocery close, Kitchen well-equipped Cons: The path with steps leading down to the river was difficult for adults 70+. We would definitely return in the future and recommend this property to others."

Great house for a family vacation. The owners provided pretty much all you need for a comfortable time. And access to the river was wonderful, close, easy, and had water even in the midst of the current VERY DRY season. Very close to the town of Wimberley itself - 5 minutes to grocery, restaurants, shops. Quiet and restful. Lots of sleep areas. 2 bathrooms, which was only area to consider if you are wanting to house a lot of people in the house at one time. Overall, we had a great time and would definitely recommend and rent again.

This was the perfect hill country getaway. The location is great, with super riverfront views and acres to explore. Yet also very close to town, which has cute shops and some great restaurants. We spent New Years here and it was so relaxing and fun. Our kids (ages 7 and 4) had a super time playing indoor and out. There are huge, well furnished living spaces and a fully stocked kitchen- so it was so easy to settle in and feel comfortable. We definitely plan to return.

This is a perfect place to escape to the Hill Country with a small or large group. It really can sleep a lot of people comfortably, and the living spaces are huge and very well furnished. The house had everything we needed, and the views of the waterfront are beautiful. It is so private and secluded, yet so close to town which made grabbing meals at the local restaurants (several very good ones to choose from) so easy. The kitchen is fully stocked so it also made cooking and staying in very easy too. Our kids ( ages 7 and 4) loved it. We spent hours exploring the waterfront even though it was too cold to swim over New Years. We definitely plan to return and think it would be great place for a family reunion or weekend away with friends. Thanks for a very relaxing and fun getaway.
