Walk 100 yards from the house to take the stone steps to the river below. 513 feet of private river access awaits you with a deep swimming hole in both normal and drought years. Please visit our ShadeRanch website in the link section for additional photos and information on the property and Hill Country area.

Take a swim in the clear blue waters of the Blanco River. Enjoy a picnic or a nap or a book along its banks. Dine in the covered porch watching the deer graze and maybe see the rare violet-ear hummingbirds that have been known to visit. Charming Riverfront Cottage on 25 Acres W/ Deep Swimming Hole
Year Purchased: 2008
Why the Owner Chose Wimberley
Shade Ranch in Wimberley Texas is a perfect location for us because it is 3 hours from Houston door to door and only 1 hour from the Austin or San Antonio airport. Our parents and extended family and friends often join us for vacations at Shade Ranch. We love the Little House and speak regularly of leaving the kids in Houston and enjoying a weekend there ourselves. With sleeping room for five we have plenty of room for our 3 kids or it's perfectly intimate for just a couple. We appreciate the seclusion of the 25 acres while making full use of the conveniences of the Village of Wimberley. We regularly utilize the nearby groceries, pharmacies, restaurants, wineries, hardware and other stores. We appreciate the many nearby state parks and towns that make up the Texas Hill Country!
The Unique Benefits at this House
The most obvious benefit of Shade Ranch is the beautiful, cold and clear Blanco River. One swim and you too will be sold as it is cool even in the dog days of August, and never crowded. The shallow area suits those wanting to wade or to sit and enjoy the flow of the river and also serves as entry to the adjacent deep swimming area. We think it is perfect and the kids do too. They and their cousins and friends can't get enough of the river when we are there. The river bank area is so spacious, and the sound of the river is so peaceful, it is our favorite place to picnic or enjoy a glass of wine. The kids also like to play games and sports in the grass along the river. They also enjoy fishing, climbing to the "cave" by the river under the ledge, looking for arrowheads after a rain, having a family "sleepover", and just exploring the 25 acres of "forest". We know you will find these wonders and more at Shade Ranch.
Owner's Map of Wimberley
The Norvell family hails from Houston, TX where we, like most Americans, lead over-booked lives full of schoolwork, school activities, sports, civic, and work responsibilities. We enjoyed a most relaxing vacation at Shade Ranch in 2008. In fact, we loved it so much that we purchased it three months later. Our kids are young and our parents and family do not live nearby. We wanted a place for our extended family to get together to run, swim, climb, spend time as a family, and just enjoy the beauty of nature. We hope your family enjoys Shade Ranch as much as we do.

We used the property for a large weekend gathering and absolutely loved it. We maxed out the capacity but everyone was comfortable and enjoyed the time together. The property ~ both the land and the home ~ is truly beautiful, and the owner did a great job of taking care of us and our needs. The home was clean and had everything we needed for a great experience. The firepit and hot tub were terrific perks as well. We'll definitely come back!

We had a fabulous time on the Blanco River.....had a stressful week, so booked very last minute on a Friday morning for a weekend stay.....our two boys loved exploring the woods, and enjoying the river we fished w/out much luck, but it was fun trying.....(it was pretty cold, but that did not stop them from rolling up their jeans & walking across the flat rocks).....we roasted marshmallows and hotdogs in the fire pit right by the cottage.....and the hot tub was a definite highlight too, so pretty looking up at all the stars......loved the inside furniture & art.....remember paper plates and cups (no dishwasher) and a flashlight too if end up on the river when the sun goes down.....

My husband, son and I recently spent a long weekend at the Little House on Shade Ranch. I can only describe our time there as magical. We played in the Blanco river, made wonderful meals in the kitchen and grilled out on the patio, took long walks around the wooded property and saw all kinds of wildlife. We were able to spend the day together as a family and then tuck our son in and stay up late under the stars with a bottle of wine in the hot tub. We are already planning a larger family reunion next year and will bring the whole extended family out to experience Shade Ranch and we can't wait!

My husband and I stayed at the little cabin with our two dogs. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property is well maintained and the cabin was nice and clean and the decor was cozy. Our dogs loved running around the property and we all enjoyed the private swimming hole. We're hoping to come again when the weather is warm to take full advantage of it. We were able to see deer almost every day and the town of Wimberly had some wonderful restaurants and shops. We will definitely stay here again.

This place is just as pictured. My husband and I enjoyed exploring the property, the cheery decor of the little house and relaxing in the hot tub. We went to Wimberly for trade days and this was the perfect place... close to town but felt miles away. We discovered the best route to town was to take a left out of the property. Will take you to River Road, and will pass by Leanin Pear Restaurant, highly recommend a meal there.

We loved the "Little House" at Shade Ranch. Great location and excellent scenery. Wildlife lovers this place is for you. Deer everywhere! Hot tub was great on a cold night. Minutes drive to Gruene and only an hour from Fredericksburg. Only downfall was our weekend went by too fast. Highly recommend.

My husband and I stayed for one night and really enjoyed the house. You're basically staying on a small ranch, on the river, minutes from Wimberley, which is what we were looking for. Since it was a Thursday night, we were the only guests on the property, but the deer kept us company and came within feet from our car! We'll be back the next time we're in the Hill Country. What a peaceful weekend we had. Very cozy place yet close to town if you want to dine out, shop or mingle. Otherwise just hang out on the porch or in the hot tub and watch mother nature parade by. Our Goldens loved with swimming hole. What a beautiful place to just " be" . Hubby and I are looking forward to our next stay at the Little House on the Blanco. My knitting group wants to plan a trip for about 8 ladies and we will book the Casa Grande; we peeked inside and it looks wonderful for a larger group. I will always keep Shade Ranch in mind for getaways!
