Owner's Profile

Owner Description

Year Purchased: 2000

My husband and I love the ocean and the forests of northern California. We are in the business of preserving forestlands and timberlands, and work with several conservation groups to achieve this. The redwoods, and some endangered species are protected on this property by a conservation easement.

Why the Owner Chose Irish Beach

This part of the northern California coast is wild and rugged. I call it the "over-looked coast", because it is so sparsely populated. You can walk on the beach for 3 hours and not see another person. There is a wildness to it that other parts of the coast don't have. There is also great hiking on the headlands and through the redwoods on the property. Going to Point Arena is like a walk back in time; some would call it eclectic, others would call it just plain "funky". When that gets old, take a drive up to the very "chic" hamlet of Mendocino to the north or the artsy, more down home town of Gualala to the south.
The other reasons why this is such a great area is (1)Manchester/Irish beach, at 6 miles long,is one of the longest along the coast, it also has good tidepooling on its north end (2) Historic Point Arena lighthouse and headlands - fun to visit, look at, and great hiking. (3) Bowling ball beach, well known to photographers and geologists alike; spectacular, a must see, great abalone shell hunting and tide-pooling.

The Unique Benefits of this House

THE VIEWS. The SPACIOUSNESS of the setting and of the house itself. You can look up and down the coastline, watch the surf, the weather, the sunsets. I also love the QUIET. Sitting on 112 acres and surrounded by large acreage, it's very quiet, and very dark at night; great for star gazing. The fireplace is also great; it's huge, you can get quite the bonfire going. With wood floors and built-in cabinets, the house has a very warm and welcoming feel, plus all of the rooms are extra large. The other things we enjoy are stated above.

Thank you Yvonne and Steve, we had a lovely stay again. No whales but lots of good beach walks, tidepools and puzzles.

Yvonne and Steve, Thank you for sharing your spectacular home. It is so calming and relaxing, and we were lucky to enjoy the view with no fog and lots of sun. The cows are a crack up going out the drive!

We came with friends for the weekend.... a couples retreat, and enjoyed a wonderful time. Great house...remote and comfortable...with amazing views of the ocean. Quite an adventure for us as we drove up the drive-way, rounding each turn, waiting for the house to appear! What an awesome location! We hope to come back and stay again. Thank you for your hospitality.

We loved the total seclusion, fantastic views of the ocean, spacious rooms and spotless home. The 1.5 mile drive to the house is worth the trip. We have rented quite a few properties on VRBO and this is absolutely one of the best!!!

We enjoyed a fabulous week's vacation with grown children and grandchildren at this scenic location. We enjoyed walks on the beach, kayaking, trips to Mendocino, as well as hikes in and around the house. The roomy house and wonderful kitchen/dining area made our stay outstanding.
