Alexandria townhome description
Spacious (1600 sq. ft., 3 floors) and LIVES LIKE A 3-BEDROOM, with two master-size bedrooms upstairs and great privacy for a third major 'bedroom' in the large basement family room, because it's separate from the main floor living room and has a high-quality queen sleeper couch and a 1/2 bath.
QUICK DRIVE AND PARK IN DC, JUST READ OUR CLIENTS' REVIEWS.
NOT WALKING DISTANCE TO METRORAIL, but a great bargain!
BEST VRBO VALUE IN THE DC AREA that sleeps 6 and has two full baths (plus two half baths)! Lower cost than two tiny, boring rooms at the nearby Best Western Pentagon motel.
PLEASE CHECK OUR AVAILABILITY CALENDAR - always up-to-date.

COMPLETELY RENOVATED top to bottom. Much nicer than when we bought it brand-new in 1980. Kitchen and all baths gutted and replaced with premium materials. Granite countertops throughout, all new deluxe appliances, custom cherry cabinets, refinished hardwood floors, custom shower and bathtub, stainless plumbing fixtures, lush carpeting, composite deck, superb heat pump, etc., etc., VERY NICE. Lovely and well-equipped, 2 miles due-south of the Pentagon, at the northern edge of Alexandria.
Twice the space of a cramped 2-bedroom Condo, plus you have a big elevated deck in the backyard to enjoy the fresh air. A barbecue in the yard is ready for your grilling pleasure.
STRONG preference for Saturday arrival and/or departure because that's what our clients prefer and we end up nearly fully booked each year during high season. However always happy to provide a proposal for any stay.
Accommodations really near Metrorail are nice, but this is a great tradeoff for the extra space and lower cost. Our clients have found that they can be parked in 20 minutes close to the National Mall, for less than $20 a day. That's about what 4 people would spend on Metrorail each day. Yes it's a stretch to say you can get to DC in 5 min, because you'd have to make two signals. However, outside of rush hours it's routinely about 10 minutes to the Lincoln Memorial. You can certainly use Metrorail, by taking the convenient bus from right outside our little community entrance to/from the Pentagon Metrorail station in 16 minutes during rush hours, or drive/cab in less than 10 minutes to two Metrorail stops.
Quiet, friendly, safe little 37 unit community. Many of the residents have been in our home for parties. Two families who are close friends live on either side of our place.
The master bedroom has a king bed and ensuite bath. The other bedroom is master-size, because we took out a wall between two small bedrooms. It has a queen bed, and the full bath is 7 feet from the bedroom door. The large basement family room is another expansive living space with a high-quality queen sleeper couch and a 1/2 bath. Yet another 1/2 bath on the main floor, with the beautiful high-ceiling living room and large dining area.
FREE OFF-STREET PARKING, with a marked, permanently reserved spot at the front door plus a parking pass to use an unreserved space.
All linens included, hair dryers in the two main baths, clothes detergent and softener, iron with board, dishwasher detergent, vacuums. Kitchen is completely equipped because we love to entertain. You only need shampoo and shower soap.
We stay a month every spring and fall with our wonderful Golden Retriever Lilo, so it's impeccably-maintained and our terrific housekeeper Juana keeps it VERY clean.
Dozens of excellent restaurants of nearly every type within 1-2 miles, with a book containing recommendations for the best. Giant Food supermarket less than a mile, Harris Teeter 1 1/2 miles, Whole Foods 2 miles, Trader Joes 3 miles. Major shopping at the Pentagon City Mall just 2.5 mi. Detailed maps in the “renters’ basket” in the living room. Cable TV, broadband and WI-FI. Large-screen HDTV in the basement den.
Payment: Homeaway Payments, personal check, Paypal, bank transfers.
If you have special needs, talk with us. Life is full of solutions.
We live in Hawaii on Oahu above Pearl Harbor (3 hours earlier than Los Angeles), so please keep the time zones in mind. Email is best and I monitor it regularly, but I'd love to chat with you, keeping in mind the time difference.
For the fun of it, because we live in Hawaii we've decorated in 'Hawaiiana', which is quite different from the button-down 'Georgetown drawing room' style that's the area norm. You'll feel a little as if you're visiting us in Hawaii!

My husband and I and our two 20 plus year old children really enjoyed our stay in your townhouse. It had all the amenities of a hotel--comfy beds, plentiful fluffy towels, blackout shades--AND the comforts of home--lovely, stocked kitchen and bathrooms, quiet, and CLEAN. When the owner, Michael told us to "just bring your shower soap and shampoo," that is literally all you need. Our family was together, yet we could spread out and have our privacy, too. We had a wonderful time touring the D.C. sights. We took the metrorail every day by driving to and parking in Pentagon City, which was easy and quick. We were lucky to find on the street meter parking every day. Glad I brought lots of quarters, although meter parking is free after 6 on weekdays and all day Sat. and Sun. Our best dinner out was in a small, but delicious Italian restaurant on Connecticut Ave, Dupont Circle. Try La Tomate ($16-28) --their veal milanese was awesome. Thank you, Michael and Virginia for treating us as welcome guests in your home.

Owner response: Thank you Dawn. First, let me emphasize that our terrific housekeeper Juana is key to our service. She does a spectacular job, keeping our townhouse "Hilton clean". We're always so happy that our clients have a wonderful home base. I know we enjoy it as much, for two months every year. On our Spring visit we may try La Tomate.
The unit is beautiful and in perfect condition. Lots to do in Alexandria and easy access to DC. Owners are a pleasure to deal with. The den in the basement is perfect as another bedroom or as a hideaway.

Perfect Oasis after a full day of sightseeing
Perfect Oasis after a full day of sightseeing
The moment we walked through the bright red door, we knew right away that this was a well kept home. Everything was spotless!! The living room was cozy, the kitchen was very well equipped and the bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. Our hosts were very detail oriented and gave us a lot of recommendations that helped us make our vacation so much more memorable. At the end of each day filled with sightseeing and visiting with family in DC, we were happy to return to our Oasis to cool off and relax! We would definitely recommend this vacation property to family and friends. This is one of our more memorable summer vacations!

Owner response: "Oasis" indeed. Such lovely comments. Perhaps we'll retain you to rewrite our VRBO pitch! I believe our place deserves it, because we enjoy our personal time there at least as much as our clients. We honestly try to think of anything that could possible make our clients' visit enjoyable.
We spent a week there during the Cherry Blossom Festival, (Two Couples) and would go back again. The home is all that is advertised and more. It's clean, spacious and has all the comforts of home. The location is superb. We visited all of the sites by driving about 5 miles to Arlington Cemetery Parking and took the Metro where ever we needed to go. The communication and instructions from Michael were a tremendous help. Even enjoyed a cookout with the neighbors. You will not regret staying here!

great people, great place, great trip

If you are planning a trip to tour Washington D.C. we highly recommend renting this home. It is a lovely place, the description is accurate, the property clean and well maintained. The best part of this is the interaction with the owner Michael, who is patient, and helpful, with all questions. My family toured all the high spots, we were able to visit the White House and the Capital thanks to Senator Gillibrand of NY. My grandsons loved every minute, and when we arrived home, they said, can we just go back ? Thank you for your help in planning the visit Michael, and we would certainly all do it again. Valerie, from NY State.

We stayed in this lovely townhouse while our daughter worked with a feeding therapist in the area. It was spacious, clean and quiet- stocked with all of the comforts of home. Grocery stores, shopping and sight seeing were just a few miles away. It was a pleasure communicating with the owner. Great memories were made here- our 2 year old daughter established a positive relationship with food on the kitchen floor of this home!

Had a wonderful week!
Had a wonderful week!
We had a wonderful stay in the Alexandria townhouse. As previous posters have said, the owners are easy to reach and are easy to work with. The townhome was lovely. It was very clean, updated and spacious. We were there for 6 days to see the DC sights. Our days were jammed packed and we able to easily access all of the attractions we were interested in. We also checked out the Basilica in Washington (the largest Catholic Church in North America-I believe) as the owner and a friend of ours had suggested. It was breathtaking. We used the metro but found it was just as easy to drive if we traveled into DC during non-commuter hours. It was also an easy car ride to Mt. Vernon, Georgetown, and Old Towne Alexandria. Thank you for such a nice place to stay!

About the owner: Photo at L'Auberge Chez Francois restaurant in Virginia, in the fall. We're both retired from the Air Force, with 62 years combined service, very happy in Hawaii. You'll see many Hawaiian decorating touches in our townhouse, which we purchased for our first assignment to the Pentagon. Have hundreds of lifelong friends in the area. We revel in our two months of visits there each year, with parties and more fun than humans should endure. Courtesy of our wonderful country we've experienced much of the world, and those experiences make us certain that you'll love visiting our country's capital area, possibly the most interesting in the world. Aloha, Michael and Virginia
Why the Owner Chose Alexandria:
It's not JUST a vacation rental. It's one of our two homes. Our emotional connection to it, our incredible friends in the area, and our nation's capital make it far more than a 'vacation rental property'.
