Oceanview Penthouse in Kona Village - Best Kona Location/View!

Year Purchased: 2002

Why the Owner Chose Kailua Village

We first visited the Big Island in 2002, and fell in love with the Island and the incredible diversity, from dry sunny beaches to rain forests and volcanoes. This particular location is really ideal because of its stellar views, proximity to the Kona Village and to all the wonderful activities available within a few blocks, as well as easy access to the entire Kona Coast area. And the rest of the Big Island just adds to myriad of activities available.

The Unique Benefits at this Condo

We really like to walk and swim in the morning and Alii Drive, the premiere running, walking and riding destination is only one block away. After our walk, we can swim in the Kona Bay along with others that swim daily. AT night, we can walk down to the art galleries and restaurants, listen to the waves and watch night volleyball games. Three days a week there is a farmer's Market within eyesight of our condo, with fresh vegetables, fruit, coffee, baked goods and sweets. All this and no driving required!

Owner's Map of Kailua Village

Married for twenty one years, we love traveling to the Big Island to get away from the hustle and bustle of the Mainland. We love the ocean, beaches, water sports and hiking, so the Big Island fulfills all of our getaway needs.

Disappointed

Guest: Poet (Oregon)
Date of Stay: 01/24/12 Review Submitted: 02/02/12

The reviews and description of the condo did not reveal how noisy this location is day and night. With windows and doors open for ventillation, traffic was very loud and constant. While the unit was updated in some ways, in other ways it was shabby and needed maintenance. Vertical blinds were broken, panels on sliding room dividers were falling apart, a screen door lacked wheels and couldn't be moved. While generally clean, the blinds and window sills were dirty and sticky. Bugs in bathroom and kitchen were annoying. The on-site manager was helpful and willing to help with bug traps. The view was nice and location close to markets and restaurants. Visitors would find it convenient, but not peaceful, fully functional or completely clean.

Owner response:We've have vacationed and rented our condo for over ten years with hundreds of satisfied guests, great reviews and numerous repeat customers. This is the first negative review we've encountered. We disagree with the reviewers comments about the condition of our unit. Although fifty years old and located in the Kona Village, our unit is on the top floor/end unit and is quiet by all standards. The condo is clean, well maintained with new appliances, fixtures and paint. It's an easy walk to the village, awesome views, very spacious, free internet and parking, and very affordable. No, it's not the Marriott, and it's not located in an isolated area; we want to make sure everyone is aware of that. Every once in awhile you have an unhappy guest that can't be fully pleased; our apologies for that.

Great Condo & Great Location

Guest: Cathy (Boston, MA )
Date of Stay: 07/06/11 Review Submitted: 08/03/11

The six of us – five adults and a toddler – spent our first four nights ever in Hawaii in this condo; it was a very pleasant introduction to the islands. Condo was great....it was everything that was in the listing. The space was roomy, neat, clean and well-furnished, with some unexpected amenities such as beach chairs and a cooler, which were very handy for our frequent forays to the beaches. There were plenty of bathroom towels, the kitchen had all the cooking and dining utensils we needed, and with the sea breeze through the balcony doors and the ceiling fans on (which precluded using the air conditioning) our down time from sightseeing and the beach was very relaxing. The parking was convenient, as was the elevator and having the farmer’s market and Kona Village within easy walking distance. Jim replied promptly to all of my pre-trip questions and was very flexible in making our arrangements, including having a Pack ‘n Play portable crib for our grandson waiting for us when we arrived.

Great exprience on our 1st trip to Kona

Guest: Paradise (Seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 12/21/10 Review Submitted: 01/22/11

It was our family's first trip (4 adults) to The Big Island and this is the BEST PLACE to stay vs. expensive resort. It's location is walking distance to the farmer's market, famous Ali drive, morning walk along the seawall, and AWESOME OCEAN VIEWS. Spending Christmas in Hawaii and being able to listen to the beautiful songs from attendees from St. Michael's below was enjoyable. Great room layouts and the Kathy was extremenly friendly to take care of us! To have the kitchen and the georgeous views from both balconies, our daily breakfast was a treat every morning. Got to be careful with the over-head cabinets though. It's easy to bump into (depending on your height) especially the hande areas. Overall, it's an awesome choice to stay for I've recommended it to my family back in Texas if they ever want to visit The Big Island.

Paradise with a View!!

Guest: Bill & Wendy (Prince George, B.C. Canada)
Date of Stay: 11/07/10 Review Submitted: 11/23/10

This is the first time we have stayed at this condo, We had planned our wedding in Kona and were looking for a condo close to town. This one certainly fit the bill. Right in the center of town close to the beach and not far from shopping. The condo is more than comfortable with tons of room. We felt at home from day one. The view from both balconys is to die for. Every few days there is a cruise ship in the harbour. Jim and Debbie are fantastic to deal with answering all our emails quickly. Thank you ever so much for the use of your condo...can't wait to go back!! Bill & Wendy, Prince George, B.C. Canada

Awesome view and great location.

Guest: Grummy (Australia)
Date of Stay: 12/29/09 Review Submitted: 07/18/10

This condo was excellent, I'm still missing the sunsets over the ocean and seeing the water first thing in the morning! The view out the back of the dormant volcano is also very interesting, seeing different weather patterns forming. Jim was very helpful and responded quickly to e-mails. Everything went really smoothly. This was good as it was my first time booking with VRBO. His on-site condo manager Kathy was fantastic, full of information and even offering us her car to use on the first night! The location is great, just a short 1 block walk down to the waterfront, farmer's market, restaurants and shops. I definitely recommend this condo and would stay again if I'm ever back in Kona. Thanks Jim.
