View Miles of Hana Open Coastline in Across a 70 Acre Preserve

The billion dollar view of the pastures and shore makes visitors exclaim "Wow" as they enter the dutch doors of this cozy cottage. On most days you can look across the ocean to the big island of Hawaii. You look across 70 acres of open pasture (with cattle and horses). Half of the people who view our website end up booking or wish they had.
In the winter you can see snow cover on the top of the 13,000 foot Mauna Kea on the Big Island. Calves frolic under the not so watchful care of mommas grazing on the grass. If you are here in the winter, you can often see and hear whales. The first you hear is a thunk, like a car door closing. But you wonder why is there a car out in the pature. Then you look out to the sea and see a big splash. Now you know where to look for further breaches or tail slaps.
This is a place to relax. The tensions ease as you drive leisurely through Hana Town, then as you spot the chaise on the cottage lanai, Hana Paralysis set in.
For the more adventurous, there are hikes, beaches, cliffs, surfing and more. If all your hiking, swimming and snorkeling tighten you, a rejuvenating massage is only minutes away by phone.
Some guests walk a tenth of a mile to a cool mountain pool fed by a burbling waterfall. More rigorous swimming may be found at the National Park where there are many pools more than 30 feet deep and jumping cliffs more from 1 to 100 feet high. Other beach swimming spots include Hamoa Beach, Waiaoka Pond, Koki Beach and the beach on Hana Bay
People have good words about Koali Ranch Cottage:
We thought this would be our last time to Hana, but after staying in the Koali Ranch Cottage, we will be back. We loved the view, the peacefulness, the cleanliness and even the crazy noisy bulls & cows! It was a great experience. 2/24/9
..in 2004 we said “wow!” When we opened the door this trip we said, “its great to be back” … 6/5/7
This being our 5th or 6th trip to this house…But merely walk through the front door, passionately kiss my wife and allow it to blow through me, as and like the breeze rolling up up the pasure to my heart. I am here...Koali is in us and will never leave. 9/14/7
…this little slice of paradise…What a great location for exploring this side of the island! 5/18/7
…Looking forward to coming back when I need to recharge my batteries. 5/12/7
11/12/7 This place is all that and a bag of chips…appreciation to the owners for providing such an amazing space and to God for creating Heaven on Earth. This is 4th time to Hana, 1st time here. Usually I can’t wait to get out door in the morning to explore. Not here. Everything I need is just outside, a place to relax and rejuvenate!… 11/12/7
"...We were both astonished by the great view from the lanai - we knew there was an ocean, but this! My husband walked out on the porch, repeating, "Magnificent!" 11/4/2006
"Walking thru the door of this cottage, I feel I'd entered a dream house..." 9/1/2004
6/13/7 …Never realized how peaceful and fun it would be to watch the cows. We will definitely recommend this place and hope to be back again… 6/13/7
A lot of testimonials. Ever since the owner's parents built the cottage in 1956, people from all over the world have been making nice comments. To be sure, there have been some adverse comments, but they come from people who might do better over in the glitzy other side of Maui, Waikiki, or even Las Vegas.

Koali Ranch Cottage is truly Maui's best kept secret! We felt as though we had our own little hideaway in a heavenly slice of paradise. This is the perfect place to relax, unwind, and just BE...the tranquility and beauty of nature envelop you. The panoramic view from the lanai is breathtaking and you'll never want to leave. We did drag ourselves away to go hiking, snorkeling and horseback riding, but it is an absolute pleasure to return. The cottage is absolutely immaculate - spotless - and perfectly appointed. We can't wait for our next visit!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+.

We wanted to share how much we enjoyed our recent stay at the Koali Ranch Cottage in Hana. Hana is one of our favorite places in the world and this cottage was the perfect place for us to enjoy it. From breakfast on the deck every morning, to watching the whales during the day, and hearing them at night, our stay was truly relaxing. The location on ranch land overlooking the ocean is our standard for a peaceful setting. It is nice to be able to stay in Hana for a few days, experiencing it's beauty in a relaxed fashion. We hiked Oheo Gulch (Seven Sacred Pools), boogie boarded at Hamoa Beach, viewed Red Sand Beach and Honokalani Black Sand Beach at Wainapanapa State Park without rushing. The cottage's central location gives access to activities in Hana as well as a wonderful place to "hang out". Make sure you plan at least one day to stay completely at the cottage. You can walk through the ranch land, down to the ocean. The cottage is quaint, beautifully decorated, very clean with a well equipped kitchen. Three-quarters of the oceanside wall has a series of sliding glass doors offering spectacular views. We look forward to returning and want to mention how much we enjoyed the hospitality of the cottage owners: Chuck and Jean Gray. Mahalo!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with teenagers.

I have lived in West Maui for over 15 years now, and have been going to Koali Cottage for over 10 years. For those of you that want peace, privacy, a unique ocean view from a balcony that one could spend the rest of ones life on, quaint but accomodating facilities for two, then this place is for you! We try to come every year and it has become a tradition with us! We come for at least 3 nights minimum because the time always goes by way to incredibly fast with all of the natural beauty that you see, hear, and smell... I could go on and on about the various magical things that happen here while enjoying the balcony at all times of day and night, from looking at the morning sunlight on the ocean with whales or schools of dolphins breaking the water surface off in the distance, to lazy afternoons sipping on soft wine looking across the channel to the snow capped volcanoes of Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, to having candlelight evening meals with incredible shooting star nights with the sound of the ocean below. It Just Goes On And On And On!!!! The walks in the late afternoon when the traffic is more at a minimum, really give you a chance to feel the local environment and wave to the friendly local people when walking past thheir homes. The cottage has a fully equipped kitchen and we bring loads of food in order to minimize ever having to leave this haven. I promise yo9u that there is nothing to loose by trying Koali Cottage except for all of lifes "chatter". You will be hooked for life! I know we are!!! Owner info
Year Purchased: 1956
Why the Owner Chose Hana:
Koali Ranch Cottage started out as a vacant lot set aside for a school house. In 1955, the Territory of Hawaii decided that it did not need a school there and auctioned it. My parents were successful bidders. The Territory insisted that the house be erected within a year. The cottage was designed by local architect John Tatum under island famous Val Ossipoff.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
Stressed out people come here to unwind. If you don't want to unwind, you probably should stay on the glitsy side of Maui, Kaanapali, Wailea, Kihei. In fact, people who live on that side come to Koali Ranch Cottage just to calm down.
