Kick back “island-style” in a luxurious setting!!! Leave the crowds behind on Seven Mile Beach. The Retreat is located at Rum Point, in the heart of the Cayman Kai area, on the north side of the island. There are only 23 units on our seven acres of beachfront property with 1,300 feet of white sandy beach. An easy 35 minutes by car from the airport, George Town, great shopping, and many delectable restaurants. This is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy the Caribbean in all its natural beauty.

This is truly the most beautiful beach on Grand Cayman! The sand is a gorgeous white with a hint of pink. The water is turquoise blue and absolutely crystal clear. The water is very shallow hundreds of feet offshore, perfect for the kids. The beach has lots of vegetation, shade trees, and wildlife, making it a nature lover’s paradise. The waters are part of a nationally protected marine park. So, you will find lots of fish and coral right out your back door. After a long day of exploring or relaxing on the beach, be sure to look to the west. There you will see one of the most stunning sunsets you will ever lay eyes on.

Right next door to the Retreat is the Rum Point Club, which has a nice gift shop, the very popular Wreck Bar and Grill, a great fine dining restaurant, and a Red Sail Sports rental and activity center. The food at Rum Point is outstanding, the drinks may be even better, and the friendly service can’t be beat. At Red Sail Sports, you can plan snorkeling, diving and Stingray City excursions. If you want to play on the beach, you can rent all kinds of beach toys including snorkeling gear, wave runners, sailboats, kayaks, and more!

Our condominium is a large one bedroom, one bathroom unit, with more than 1,000 square feet of living space. We have a great view of the beach from the living room and the screened lanai. The unit is on the third floor, which almost always provides for a nice breeze if you want to open up the screened windows and let the ocean air flow through. Our unit is ideally situated for a couple or young family. The large bedroom features a king sized bed. The living room has a queen-size pullout couch. An additional pullout bed is available upon request. The kitchen is fully equipped, including a dishwasher and disposal. Our unit also has a washer and dryer, so feel free to pack light.

To keep you entertained in the evenings, we have cable television, a DVD player with a selection of movies, a stereo with a variety of CD’s, video games, board games, puzzles, and cards. A small library of novels is available for your enjoyment. Email your family and friends from your laptop. We have high-speed wireless internet and a color printer for your use free of charge. Local telephone calls are also free of charge. International calls can be made using your calling card or any major credit card.

If you are trying to find the perfect vacation spot at Rum Point, please take the following points into consideration. Our condominium is on the ocean side right on Rum Point, not on the lagoon where the Kaibo and other accommodations in the so called "Rum Point area" are located. On the ocean side the sand is white and soft, not hard packed like on the lagoon beaches; and the water is turquoise blue and full of coral and fish, not green with a grassy bottom like the lagoon water. From our condominium, you will walk out your door onto one of the Caribbean's most amazing beaches. If you stay on the Lagoon, you will find yourself driving to our beach. You may be able to find a place at the Kaibo that is a little bit cheaper. But, you will find our condominium to be the best value on the treasured ocean side at Rum Point.

The Retreat and our unit have been inspected and approved by the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism. So, rest assured that our amenities are up to the finest of standards. We would be happy to answer any questions you may have about our condominium or the island. So, please don't hesitate to ask. We hope to have the opportunity to share our pristine home away from home with you…

Beachfront - the Retreat at Rum Point Unit 16

Year Purchased: 2007

Why the Owner Chose Rum Point

My husband and I have talked about buying a property in the Caribbean since our honeymoon. Everytime we would go on vacation to an island, that conversation would come back up. But, we never pulled the trigger. Back in July of 2007, my in-laws watched the kids for a week while my husband and I went on our first vacation by ourselves since the kids were born. We went to Grand Cayman and stayed on 7 Mile Beach. The beaches were stunning and the island was absolutely paradise. Beatiful views...warm water...laid-back island atmosphere. Around the middle of the week, we decided to rent a car and drive over to Rum Point, which we had read about online. Now, I grew up in the Caribbean and we have traveled pretty extensively to various island destinations. I have seen my share of stunningly beautiful beaches. But, let me tell you...when we got out of the car and walked around the corner of the gift shop and saw the beach at Rum Point, we were absolutely awestruck by the beauty. We had a drink at the Wreck Bar and decided to walk out to the water. The water was perfectly calm and clear as a looking glass. We were able to walk out a couple hundred feet from the shore and the water was only waist high! We began to talk about how this would be such a perfect place to come with the kids. Shallow, calm water. Nice quiet, family atmosphere. Just about then we noticed a couple of really nice looking buildings right next door on the same beach. We wandered next door, found out there was a one bedroom condo for sale, and the rest is history.

The Unique Benefits at this Condominium

Our condo's location offers a great blend of quiet tranquility and action. The complex itself is small, 23 units on 1,300 linear feet of beachfront. Our beach and waters are part of a government protected marine park with lots of colorful coral and abundant sea life. Right next door is the Red Sail beach complex. While far from a wild and crazy place, the Red Sail facilities offer plenty of activity. They have a great bar and grill (excellent drinks and friendly service), a fabulous formal restaurant and a beach rental and excursion center. Right there you can rent jet skis, sail boats, kayaks, snorkling gear and more, plus book your Sting Ray City and scuba diving excursions. Most of the excursions leave right from the dock on the property. It is also a great place for the kids to find some playmates to explore the beach with! There are lots of other great restaurants nearby if you want to branch out a little. You are also about a 15 minute drive from the stunningly beautiful the Queen Elizabeth II Botanic Park and the Mastic Trail nature hike.

Owner's Map of Rum Point

My husband and I have been married for 14 years. We have 2 boys, ages 6 and 10. We live in Houston, Texas. We enjoy getting away to our condo at Rum Point as frequently as we can. Our kids enjoy telling their friends that in Grand Cayman their back yard is a beach and their front yard is a pool and tennis court! We enjoy having friends and family visit so that we can show off our home away from home. We all wish we could spend all of our time there. Since we can't :( we would love to share our island home with you while we are putting in time in the "real world."

    • We really loved the Retreat!! The condo and the beach were awesome. It was so much fun being able to go snorkling everyday. Going to Stingray City was a breeze. Make reservations at Rum Point and walk to the pier and catch Capt. Jimmy's boat. Great place for families. Highly recommend it!!

    • I thoroughly enjoyed having the "comforts of home" provided by your condo on an almost private beach. Maybe two other condos were occupied during our visit, so we really felt like we had the beach and property to ourselves for the most part. My favorite activies were quietly reading on the lanai as the morning sun highlighted the waves breaking over the reef, and lounging on the beach just a few feet from the waters edge under the palms watching the sunset over the Rum Point pier. I love cooking, but don't get to do much of it at home due to my schedule, so having a real kitchen versus staying in a hotel was a big "plus" for me.

    • My family (2 kids, 2 adults) stayed here in early June, 2009. The unit, complex and surrounding beach are beautiful. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. The views from this unit are excellent - you can see the ocean from every window in the place! Rum Point is great location for a laid back, relaxing vacation. I highly recommend The Retreat at Rum Point! Take the Red Sail glass bottom boat trip with Capt. Tommy to Stingray City - this was a highlight of our vacation.

    • We had a wonderful time at Rum Point. We swam with the stingrays, snorkeled, went to the Turtle Farm and swam with the dophins. It was a great vacation. The location of the condo was great as you could walk right out to the breathtaking beach. We loved the screened in porch to play board games and read books.

    • We stayed at the Retreat at Rum Point from April 17th through the 22nd. The condo was beautifully decorated and had all the amenities we expected (and more!). As it was off season, we shared the property with two other families-- and basically had the beach to ourselves! We played tennis a few evenings and spent A LOT of time lounging at the beach and snorkeling. At first we thought Cayman Kai was a little far from the shopping and restaurants on the west side-- but after visiting Georgetown and Seven Mile Beach-- we knew we made the right choice to stay at Cayman Kai. This may sound cliche-- but Cayman Kai truly is paradise. We enjoyed ourselves very much (the food was fabulous, the weather oh-so-relaxing) and can't wait to visit again!

    • We spend the last week of March, 2009, in unit 16 and enjoyed it immensely. It was very quiet, the perfect way to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We had perfect weather. We recommend the Mastic Trail (wear hiking shoes), the Botanic Park, and the Turtle Farm. We also enjoyed a sunset sail and swiming with the stingrays. The drive around to Georgetown is also quite an experience. We'll probably be back.

    • We just got back from the Retreat at Rum Point, Grand Cayman last night, and I just wanted to thank you for sharing your beautiful condo with us! It is decorated beautifully, and we haven't had such good night's sleep in a long time! We were very pleased with the condo and property, but even more so after taking a ride one day over to 7 Mile Beach and the North West Point. After that, we knew had made the right choice in staying in Cayman Kai! The Retreat was truly paradise. It was the most relaxing vacation we've had in a long time. You thought of everything we could possibly need. The weather and water were both beyond beautiful. We did some great snorkeling. Everyone we met was very nice, and yet sometimes we felt as if we were the only ones there, and that was great, too! We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for peace and quiet in paradise! We dined at Over the Edge, The Lighthouse and Kaibo, and went to see/hear The Barefoot Man at The Reef. Thanks again for providing us with a much needed relaxing vacation.

    • This condo is what one would want when going on vacation. It is very clean and the appliances, furniture, dishes etc appear to be new. The property management staff is friendly and promptly handle any request or problems. But maybe the condo's best assest is location. It is right next door to Rum Point Cafe with a great beach, food and drinks. There is excellent snorkeling right in front of the condo and quick access to the East side for diving and other restaurants. The best recommendation, I would stay there again.
