Wonderful family vacation spot

Guest: Al (Montreal, Quebec)
Date of Stay: 02/25/12 Review Submitted: 03/11/12

The condo was spotless and very well equipped for our two week stay. Our 12 year old had a blast at the Rum point beach club. We highly recommend this place and will surely revisit with entire family next time.

Owner response:Hi Alen, Great to hear you and your family enjoyed your visit to Rum Point. Rum Point Beach Club is a great place for children to meet other local and international children to play soccer, beach volleyball, snorkle and explore. I hope you come down to Rum Point soon!

Lots of Rum in Rum Point!

Guest: VRBO Guru (Atlanta, GA)
Date of Stay: 01/18/12 Review Submitted: 02/11/12

First of all, I would like to say that this unit was absolutely spotless when we checked in. There was not a grain of sand on the floor, no fingerprints on the mirrors, no hair in the bathroom. VERY well taken care of. With that being said, we absolutely loved Rum Point. While we did not spend most of our time at the wreck bar and beach area, we found that the Cayman Kai public beach was the best, most isolated area for us to enjoy our vacation. This beach was only .2 miles away from the retreat - so easy! We were the only ones on the beach for 6 of the 7 days that we were there. We did not go sightseeing, we did not go scuba diving, we only left the retreat area a few times for groceries. We spent the rest of the time drinking rum on the beach and snorkeling. It was one of the most relaxing, beautiful, and convenient vacations that we've ever had. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us and we look forward to booking another visit soon!

Owner response:Hi Mark, Thank you for the wonderful review. I am so happy that you had such a great time in Rum Point. I know exactly the public beach you liked so much. We walk to it and snorkle from there down to The Retreat. I hope you got to see the turtle who lives in the reef near The Retreat. I hope you also saw Barri, the barricuda, who hangs out under the Rum Point pier. Thanks again! Adela

Vacation paradise

Guest: Jods (Stacy, MN)
Date of Stay: 01/08/12 Review Submitted: 01/19/12

This was our 6th visit to Grand Cayman but our first stay at Rum Point. We always enjoyed Seven Mile Beach & have seen most of the island but, being older, we wanted a relaxing, peaceful vacation. This resort is exactly what we were looking for. It had everything we needed, except groceries, & had a beautiful view from the lanai. We loved our walks on the beach & snorkeled every day right in front of our condo. We swam w/3 huge turtles, saw beautiful fish & an octopus. The restaurants next door were excellent & the staff very effiicient & friendly. (FYI-tips are incl. in the bill) The staff at the retreat are wonderful & we missed meeting Adela but she was very prompt in responding to any questions we had & was very bubbly & personable. It is recommended to rent a car since it's a little drive from the airport & you do need groceries, etc & may want to check out the island. We will def. stay here again when we vacation in Grand Cayman!! Thanks Adela & the staff at The Retreat Terry & Jody-Stacy, MN

Owner response:Thank you Jody. Your review makes my day! I am so happy that you made many wonderful memories during your visit to The Retreat! Adela

A Quiet Week in the Tropics

Guest: Fred (Outside Boston, Massachusetts)
Date of Stay: 01/30/11 Review Submitted: 04/22/11

We stayed in Adela's condo from 30 January - 05 February. When we left Boston, the snowbanks were up to the roofs of the cars. First off, Adela is just about the most gracious person you could imagine. The property was exactly as presented on VRBO, and she was always helpful with emails before and during our stay. The place was immaculate and equipped with everything you'll need for a week, save for groceries. The unit is on the third floor, affording sweeping views of the sea and nice breezes all day. It never rained; one day it was a little cloudy. The location itself is ideal for either doing nothing, or engaging in snorkeling, scuba, parasailing, blah, blah. Next door to the condo complex is the Rum Point enclave, a modest assemblage of a supply/souvenir shop, a casual lunchtime restaurant with outdoor seating, and Red Sail Sports, a top-notch diving and scuba business with multiple locations on the island. You can book a trip and walk out to the end of the RP pier, where one of their huge catamarans will pick you up and take you to Stingray City or to some coral reef to go diving and then dump you off a few hours later. There's also the Restaurant at Rum Point, a snooty evenings-only al fresco dining place. Didn't eat there. There is also a small clowder of semi-tame cats who roll around in the sand and bask in the sun. You can either keep yourself occupied doing all these things, or you can just sit around and do nothing. This is what we did. We went to Grand Cayman in 2010 and stayed at the Marriott and went to the many attractions the island has to offer. That was fun, and the Marriott is a swell property. But this year we wanted to just sit there and read and eat and not be in Arctic surroundings, cold all the time. This property is perfect for that. Days and nights are tranquil as could be... you can go hours without seeing or hearing anybody, unless you go next door to the RP enclave, where there are daytrippers eating or relaxing on the beach. This is kind of a remote location, so if you book here you better have a car. I never saw a taxi - although there probably are some, and you could call one I suppose - but having a car here is FUN, driving on the other side of the road and zipping around and exploring the many deserted beaches just a few miles down the road. There's also an unbuilt condo complex down the street - Ivory Sands or something - with beautiful beaches the public is invited to explore. Thanks Adela!

If you want to de-stress then you have to come to Rum Point. This was my first time in Grand Cayman, and all I can say is location, location, location! What an awesome location! I found the condo and complex to be clean, and well kept. I felt very safe. The condo had a real view of the ocean (not all do). It was great to get up in the morning and enjoy the view and sounds of the ocean. Naps on the beach are a must! Next door are two resturants, an awesome and fun bar (ask for a Cayman Colada!), and souvenior shop. And boy is it quite! I slept like a baby! The condo also had a full stocked kitchen and full size washer and dryer; I really appreciated having both, Thanks! So if you are thinking about visiting Grand Cayman, come stay here, It is well worth it!

Thank you for the opportunity to stay in your beautiful condo! The condo was very well stocked. It had everything we needed and then some! We enjoyed our morning coffee each morning on the huge balcony overlooking the beautiful Caribbean Sea! We loved the beach at Rum Point. After exploring other beaches on the island, this beach was our favourite! This was our first visit to Grand Cayman and it will not be our last. We checked around at other locations on the Island and it didn't take us long to realize that we picked the perfect location to have our vacation. We cannot wait to return to Rum Point and stay at your condo again!

We stayed here April 24 - May 1, 2010. We had such a great vacation! It is quiet, but it was exactly what we wanted. We simply relaxed, snorkled and spent quality time together. What a beautiful place! The restaurants are all good; healthy food (or otherwise depending on what you are looking for), everything you need really is at Rum Point. This was our second visit to Cayman, we will be back to Rum Point for sure. The condo also had everything we needed. We made a couple of trips to Foster's for groceries, and they had everythng we needed which really surprised me! I mean organic greek yogurt, really? The bed is comfortasble, there are plenty of towels and amenities, even good books to read. Incredibly beautiful beaches and view from the lanai, fun things to do, cool wildlife to see. We had an absolutey perfect vacation,

It was simply lovely. Quiet, peaceful at night. Gorgeous view from the lanai every morning. Instant beach access, lovely pool to cool off, and every convenience. Rum Point Beach Club was fun but shuts up tight well before sunset. As long as you stock up at the grocery store in town, you will be set for a fabulous vacation. We would go back in a heart beat!

Just returned from a wonderful 9 days at The Retreat, Unit 16. The unit is beautifully appointed and immaculate. The beach is beautiful and unspoiled. Enjoyed long beach walks, snorkeling and swimming every day. It's fun having the Wreck right next door. We stopped at Hurley's on our way in and got food for stay. We didn't rent a car this trip as we simply wanted to relax on the beach. To truly enjoy the island, we will rent a car our next visit. Very rarely do we repeat a vacation location, but the Retreat (#16) will be an exception. We simply had a superb time. Swimming with the sting rays was magical and an event that we will repeat every time we come back! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We really loved the Retreat!! The condo and the beach were awesome. It was so much fun being able to go snorkling everyday. Going to Stingray City was a breeze. Make reservations at Rum Point and walk to the pier and catch Capt. Jimmy's boat. Great place for families. Highly recommend it!!

I thoroughly enjoyed having the "comforts of home" provided by your condo on an almost private beach. Maybe two other condos were occupied during our visit, so we really felt like we had the beach and property to ourselves for the most part. My favorite activies were quietly reading on the lanai as the morning sun highlighted the waves breaking over the reef, and lounging on the beach just a few feet from the waters edge under the palms watching the sunset over the Rum Point pier. I love cooking, but don't get to do much of it at home due to my schedule, so having a real kitchen versus staying in a hotel was a big "plus" for me.

My family (2 kids, 2 adults) stayed here in early June, 2009. The unit, complex and surrounding beach are beautiful. The staff were super friendly and very helpful. The views from this unit are excellent - you can see the ocean from every window in the place! Rum Point is great location for a laid back, relaxing vacation. I highly recommend The Retreat at Rum Point! Take the Red Sail glass bottom boat trip with Capt. Tommy to Stingray City - this was a highlight of our vacation.

My family (3 adults, 1 kids - 16) spent 4 night here in early June. This was our first visit to Grand Cayman and we had a great time. The condominium was perfect, with a view of the ocean from every window in the place! Everything was very clean and it was nicely furnished. The staff were extremely helpful too. I highly recommend taking the Stingray City trip with Red Sail right next door. This was a highlight of our vacation. We will be back and we hope to stay at the Retreat again!

We had a wonderful time at Rum Point. We swam with the stingrays, snorkeled, went to the Turtle Farm and swam with the dophins. It was a great vacation. The location of the condo was great as you could walk right out to the breathtaking beach. We loved the screened in porch to play board games and read books.

We stayed at the Retreat at Rum Point from April 17th through the 22nd. The condo was beautifully decorated and had all the amenities we expected (and more!). As it was off season, we shared the property with two other families-- and basically had the beach to ourselves! We played tennis a few evenings and spent A LOT of time lounging at the beach and snorkeling. At first we thought Cayman Kai was a little far from the shopping and restaurants on the west side-- but after visiting Georgetown and Seven Mile Beach-- we knew we made the right choice to stay at Cayman Kai. This may sound cliche-- but Cayman Kai truly is paradise. We enjoyed ourselves very much (the food was fabulous, the weather oh-so-relaxing) and can't wait to visit again!

We spend the last week of March, 2009, in unit 16 and enjoyed it immensely. It was very quiet, the perfect way to celebrate our 25th anniversary. We had perfect weather. We recommend the Mastic Trail (wear hiking shoes), the Botanic Park, and the Turtle Farm. We also enjoyed a sunset sail and swiming with the stingrays. The drive around to Georgetown is also quite an experience. We'll probably be back.

We just got back from the Retreat at Rum Point, Grand Cayman last night, and I just wanted to thank you for sharing your beautiful condo with us! It is decorated beautifully, and we haven't had such good night's sleep in a long time! We were very pleased with the condo and property, but even more so after taking a ride one day over to 7 Mile Beach and the North West Point. After that, we knew had made the right choice in staying in Cayman Kai! The Retreat was truly paradise. It was the most relaxing vacation we've had in a long time. You thought of everything we could possibly need. The weather and water were both beyond beautiful. We did some great snorkeling. Everyone we met was very nice, and yet sometimes we felt as if we were the only ones there, and that was great, too! We would highly recommend it to anyone looking for peace and quiet in paradise! We dined at Over the Edge, The Lighthouse and Kaibo, and went to see/hear The Barefoot Man at The Reef. Thanks again for providing us with a much needed relaxing vacation.

This condo is what one would want when going on vacation. It is very clean and the appliances, furniture, dishes etc appear to be new. The property management staff is friendly and promptly handle any request or problems. But maybe the condo's best assest is location. It is right next door to Rum Point Cafe with a great beach, food and drinks. There is excellent snorkeling right in front of the condo and quick access to the East side for diving and other restaurants. The best recommendation, I would stay there again.
