Relax in This Peaceful Rustic Mountain Retreat
Year Purchased: 2005
Why the Owner Chose Fairplay
We chose Park County so we could be in the mountains without all the craziness of a tourist town. We love visiting the museums and shops in Fairplay during the summer. And we ski at Breckenridge, Keystone, A-basin, Vail and Monarch in the winter. Fairplay is centrally located for excellent fishing in the summer. It's a 1.5 hour drive from either Denver or Colorado Springs.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin
Our cabin is located on 3 acres on the Sun Mountain sub-division. We love the quiet! So quiet that you can hear your ears ringing! Our time at the cabin is a time to unplug from the rest of the world. No TVs or internet connections here. Just lots of family time around the wood stove, games, storytelling, reading and walks in the woods.
An awesome place to loosen up those tired muscles after a day of skiing. The kids love it - they throw rocks in the river for hours. Website - http://www.mtprinceton.com
Great Fishing and beautiful sights! Website - http://parks.state.co.us/parks/elevenmile/Pages/ElevenMileHome.aspx
A great family ski area with reasonable prices. Website - http://www.skimonarch.com/
Owner's Map of Fairplay
While living in Colorado Springs, JP and Michelle decided to pursue our dream of a cabin in the mountains. We knew the day would come when we'd move back to Lafayette, LA to be closer to family. We hoped that when the day for the move came, we'd be able to keep our mountain cabin. Now we enjoy family vacations to the mountains for ski trips and to escape the heat and humidity of summertime in Louisiana. Sharing our cabin with VRBO renters has been another blessing.

We had a great time at your cabin in Colorado. We woke up, had breakfast and didn’t return most days until dusk. We rafted in Buena Vista. We also hiked to Ptarmigan Lake? (near Cottonwood Pass). We hit the hot springs in Mt. Princeton. Zip-lined in Salida. Rode Alpine sleds in Breckenridge. We climbed our first 14er – Mt. Quandary (AWESOME EXPERIENCE!!) and the group hiked McCullough Falls past Hoosier Pass to the most beautiful falls and crystal clear lake at the top. We saw a momma and two baby moose near your cabin (corner of VOTS and your main road). We also saw elk, coyote and jack rabbits near your cabin around dusk. We fished trout at the beach in Fairplay and soaked our tired feet in a couple of ice cold streams. We didn’t sleep well (altitude) and I had a headache the first day and after climbing Mt. Quandary but other than that it was a near perfect vacation. For those that only visit Colorado to ski they don’t know what they are missing in the summertime. Thanks again for your generosity

We had 10 adults and one 6 month old for a week and the cabin was great. Plenty of space, sleeping and equipped with all the essentials. Great early morning time on the porch for the coffee drinkers, or the beer and ice tea crowd in the afternoon. Use the helpful information at the cabin to plan your day's activities. Plenty of brochures and maps. This is the place to go to get away, no phone ot TV, just open blue skies and star-filled night skies. The grocery in Fairplay has a good selection and is handy....as are some of the local eateries. This is a wonderful cabin for 6 - 12 people. Mike & Patsy Young Ridgeland, Mississippi

I have always dreamed of spending a week at a cabin in the Rockies of Colorado. We happened upon this fabulous property through our friends in our church parish. The directions, description and photos were more than accurate. The place was impeccable! Kitchen (and baths) were amazingly equipped---made it wasy to cook each night. The wood-burning stove had ample firewood and was easy to use. I would highly recommend rental of this property! I wrote these thoughts on our last evening, late May, 2010... "We have surely been cradled by God during our blessed time here this week. We spent much of our time touring the area by car, sun roof open to the crisp air, taking in the luscious scenery, observing the change in vegetation that took place in a week’s time. It’s as if we welcomed spring and glimpsed the greening of Colorado! We observed the creek beds filling with melting snow, the saplings pushing mightily through the forest floor, little spurts of wildflowers popping out along the scenic roadsides, and (my favorite) the budding and leafing of the Aspen trees—makes me want to come back in the fall to see 'the rest of the story!' And now we return to the heat and humidity of summer in SW Louisiana and to the folks we love, who keep us rooted in home territory. But we take home with us nourished and renewed spirits, a true taste of heaven, and a deep awareness that the soul breathes deeply in the spaciousness of time and plentitude of nature." Thank you, cabin-owners, for your vision and fabulous space you have created in Fairplay, Colorado. We plan to return in the not-so-distant future!

It seems that on most vacations you have to pick between rest and adventure. Staying at this cabin allowed my wife and I both opportunities. The cabin was a fantastic place for our souls to rest and slow down from the busyness of American life. It was just far away enough from town to stop our impulse to "do something" and allow us to breathe. However, it was close enough to Breckenridge that we could take day hikes, sample great beers at the local brewpub, and enjoy all the other lavish opportunities of a resort town without having to have so much humanity around us. A perfect vacation in a perfect cabin!

We rewarded ourselves with two wonderful weeks here in August. We were able to combine plenty of healthy fun activities (biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, dining, and much more) along with evenings filled with soothing star-shine and the quiet of our thoughts. We were able to heal, re-charge and get fit both physically and mentally. The cabin is perfect to escape the life of high energy and TV addiction and still be close enough to "visit" the Summit hot spots. If we would have brought kids, they would have spent hours playing in the woods of imagination. Our memories stay warm in our hearts and keep our pulse peaceful. If this sounds good then you ought to "reward" yourself too.

These are a few comments that I pulled from our Cabin LogBook.“You all have a beautiful place. A lovely, peaceful, spot. More beautiful than we could have imagined. Thank you for this experience.” The Finns, 2005“What a fantastic week! Lots of laughter. We all conquered new things! We made some great memories here. Good memories: Belly laughs while sledding down the hill and crashing into the snow banks. The amazing star-filled sky. Seeing the children learn to ski.” The Wybles, 2006“This is an awesome cabin in a beautiful location. The pictures we saw didn’t do it justice. This is a great place for family bonding. Every night was new games and puzzles. ………We thank you for this opportunity to take our family to God’s country and enjoy nature at it’s best.” The Heberts, 2007“We ventured out and explored central and front range Colorado. Our highlights: drive to Buckskin Gulch and hiking up Mt. Democrat, white water rafting in Buena Vista, the scenic route up Boreas Pass and Sprague Lake. There are many great spots to be explored! God has left incredible places to touch our souls. Thank you so much!” The Youngs, 2007“Whenever I think of the words relaxing and peaceful, I will always think of this place. … I think my favorite part was being in a place with no TV or computer surrounded by all this beauty. It is truly a special place and a great spot to make great memories. We can’t wait to come back…” The Lingles, 2005
