Hawley house description
Farm House is a New England classic. Started in the 1790s and located on Singing Brook Farm in Hawley, it sits in amidst pastures on the road at the crest of a hill. The enveloping valley is steep and heavily wooded. Accommodations in Farm House are comfortable, though not luxurious, and well-suited to family life.
As is often traditional, entry to the house is through the kitchen. The kitchen has generous counter space and includes a new propane gas stove and a second sink for beverages located next to the refrigerator. The dining room table area is divided from the working kitchen by a 4 foot-high wall, allowing for casual dining in front of a large window with a view to the woods. The washer and dryer are located in the pantry off the dining area. Outside the kitchen on the west (back) is a large deck perfect for meals or charcoaling or relaxing. Steps take on down into the back yard. Downstairs continues through an open doorway to an L-shaped living room with comfortable furniture, tuned upright piano, and TV for use with VCR and DVD. Downstairs there are two bedrooms: one with a twin bed and the other the master bedroom with double/full bed. There are 2 full baths: one off the kitchen with tub and one off the master bedroom with shower stall. Upstairs are a large bedroom with king-sized bed (convertible into 2 twin beds)and two bedrooms with one twin bed each, as well as a newly renovated full bath with shower.
Singing Brook Farm, owned by the Parker family since 1919, is surrounded by the lovely Berkshire hills. Most of our 600-plus-acre property is a designated tree farm, consisting of mixed forest from which hardwood is harvested. The fall foliage is spectacular! Our old-fashioned recreation area consists of a small pond (the dammed-up brook - cold!) for swimming in the summer, a tennis court, and a picnic area with open fireplace/grill. There are numerous trails through the woods for hiking. Enthusiastic birdwatchers have posted long lists of the many birds spotted on our property.
We are located four miles from the nearest general store and gas station in Charlemont on the Mohawk Trail, and 12 miles from picturesque Shelburne Falls with its many shopping and eating opportunities.
Area activities during the summer: Go river rafting, kayaking, and canoing on the Deerfield River. Enjoy the finest in live chamber music at the Mohawk Trail Concerts, or take a longer trip down to Tanglewood. Experience an Indian Pow-Wow on the Mohawk Trail, and visit picturesque Shelburne Falls, with its many shopping and eating opportunities. Mount Greylock, Mass MOCA, Old Deerfield, and the new Eric Carle museum are all within an hour's drive, as are Williamstown, Greenfield, Pittsfield, and Amherst.
Area activities during the winter: Family-friendly skiing is only a short drive away at Berkshire East in Charlemont, and Mount Snow in Vermont is less than an hour's drive. Cross-country skiing is close by at Stump Sprouts, or bring your skis and follow out trails around the property (they are marked and maps are available) or blaze a trail into the state forest, which begins less than 1/2 mile down the road from Farm House.

My family and I had a great time here! The accommodations were comfortable and everything was as described. The location was perfect; about 25 minutes from Shelburne Falls which was a cute little town with some nice restaurants and scenic views. In addition, Tinky the Rental Agent was fantastic to work with and also provided great recommendations for food, the Green Emporium in Colrain was a hit (about a 20 minute ride)! In addition, we really enjoyed being right down the road from Kenneth Dubuque State Forest. It was great for mountain biking or hiking. We greatly enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again!
