The property is totally private. It is on 14 acres which includes woods and pastures with horses. There is ample room to explore right on the grounds. The home is well used, comfortable and ideal for families with children. There are two bedrooms with Queen beds and a back bedroom with bunk beds, a single twin bed and a crib. Every room connects to the outside.
Due to the special nature and privacy of the property and surrounding hills the place has also been used for weddings, retreats, and other special occasions.
We have built a playhouse in the woods where children can play creatively and independently---inspired by the recent book The Last Child in the Woods. This book documents the need for intimate connection to nature and to independent fantasy play for children. The playhouse is surrounded by trails leading to an open meadow of five acres. There is also a suspension bridge!
There is a coop with chickens, ducks and Doc, the rabbit. Young kids can access the coop to collect eggs with parental supervision. Most children spend hours in the chicken coop. There are views of surrounding hills and the Bolinas Lagoon and access to nearby trails in open space and parkland. One mile from the town of Bolinas which has two miles of beachfront and locally caught fish in season, abundant organic produce and Niman meats. The property is also just one mile from the Audubon Canyon Ranch where one can watch seals and all kinds of bird life on Bolinas Lagoon; and 10 miles from Point Reyes Park HQ with its extensive trails, beaches and wildlife.

Year Purchased: 1970
I have lived on this property for over 40 years and it is a nurturing and spiritual place for me--compeletly private and still. For people who value those two things it is ideal. We also have built a playhouse in the woods where children can play independently and creatively and there are all kinds of animals on the place. I do not keep up with the callendar--house is rented about half the time--so the best way to enquire about availability is to email me--I am very prompt.

This property is beyond description! It's beauty defies words. We chose it for our small, casual but classy wedding. The owner, Linda, put so much work into making the gardens pristine, with solar lights embedded amongst the flowers, the pastures freshly mowed, the home cozy and comfortable for our family, and the kitchen well stocked for cooking. Linda was so kind and patient with my "bride-to-be" questions, details, and requests! For the wedding weekend, we pretended this sacred spot was ours! Such a dream! Linda gave us all the privacy we wanted. Our guests were mesmerized by the setting as we were married under a sturdy, gorgeous oak tree with the Bolinas Lagoon as the backdrop. Emblazoned in our hearts and souls forever!

We have stayed in many vacation rentals finding it the best option for traveling and exploring with kiddos. This property has surpased all others. When you look out you see only beauty. When you explore you feel magic and mystery and open green, fresh air. My little one was entranced with the chickens and rabbits, horses, swings, climbing trees and playhouse. She skipped across the green lawn to explore her mother earth filed with wonder and joy. She woke with eager anticipation of collecting fresh eggs. My husband and I relaxed by the wood fire in the more than comfortable living area. We cooked tasty food in the kitchen stocked with excellent pans and whatever you might need. The hosts went out of their way to help us with an unexpected dilemma - not to mention truely wanting us to be welcomed, comfortable, and participate in the opportunities this unique location provides. I encourage anyone - family, couple or group to land here for a nourishing natural rest. There are beautiful beaches and hikes nearby. Point Reyes in your "backyard". It's worth it.

A Magical and Special Vacation Rental

I can not express how amazing and special this rental is . . . from the rolling hills of the meadow to the glorious flowers in the yard, from the hot tub under a starlit night to the hammock overlooking the Bolinas lagoon, from feeding the horses to collecting fresh eggs. We feel so fortunate to not only have stayed in such a beautiful place but also to have had such generous hosts. They went out of the way to make sure that we had everything we needed while also giving us space for privacy. We spent much of our time outdoors enjoying the bucolic bliss of the property, but the house itself offered dramatic views of stunning trees in the foreground and the everchanging lagoon in the background. The Sweetpea cottage was an amazing bonus space for the kids. The house had everything we needed, and we can’t wait to come back!

I would like to thank Linda for her warm hearted graciousness. When we decided to get married on her estate she was more than willing to work with us to make it a memorable day. Her property is gorgeous with beautiful views of the lagoon and open meadows with horses. Our kids loved feeding the chickens and the number of swings all over the place. The house is comfortable, with enough space to house an entire family, plus more. I especially loved the flower gardens. The outdoor patio and hot tub really are great spots to relax and enjoy Bolinas. I would highly recommend this as a special and wonderful place to stay for a vacation or a special event. Linda makes sure that you have everything you need without intruding on your space. I hope to visit again soon, maybe for our anniversary.

What an amazing and magical place! The Mornell estate has it all - great location, beauty, serenity, close to fun places, and above all - is a great family home. You can totally tell this place was a very happy place for the Mornell family for many years! The horses were great, the chickens, ducks and Doc the rabbit were sweet and fun, the hostess was welcoming and warm and nearby if we needed her, but never hovering. The kitchen is well stocked, the bedrooms comfortable, the living space great for a large family, the dining room table expands for big dinners and great games. The fireplace was wonderful, didn't use the hot tub, but we could have! We just walked the property with Molly, the resident doggie, drove over to Stinson, walked to Bolinas, took a 1/2 day trip to Point Reyes Station and had a wonderful time! Would return to this property again and again!
