Nice House; poor use of space

Since we rely upon reviews in making our choices, we thought we should contribute one. This house is close to the descriptions on the site and that of other guests. Our grandson enjoyed the toys, games and video. The house was clean. The owners were easy to deal with, but pay pal or credit cards would have been an easier way to make payment. There is a water view, but trees would need to be cut for a Mt. Baker view (which is implied by the photo). It was a bit further from Eastsound and the rest of the island that we would have wished. The biggest problem is the floor plan. The loft bedroom is the master and is large(also not obvious from the photos). The children's and guest bedrooms are down stairs and are very small. If you want a big bedroom, you have to climb the stairs to use it. It is completely open to the rest of the house due to the A frame design. The only private spaces are the two smallest bedrooms which have doors. The rest of the house is completely open and you can hear all sound from all rooms. They ask that you not move furniture so we basically were restricted to the use of the DR table for a desk and the small sitting room (with no view) for video/tv which you could hear from everywhere. I suppose this would all work for some families, but it didn't work for us for the reasons stated. VRBO should provide basic floor plans and any restrictions the owners are applying to use.
Owner response:Thanks for writing a review. Ours is a Lindal prow home with an open floor plan that takes full advantage of the big ocean views and we think our photos reflect this. We try to be as accurate as we can in our description and so we would like to clarify the points our guests brought up. The home is 4.5 miles from town and at the end of the road. The loft is open, with a desk area in front and bedroom behind. Although you can not see into the bedroom from downstairs, you can hear noise. It is such a drop dead view that we don't have the heart to close it off. Mt. Baker can not be seen from inside the house and we have no plans to cut trees down. The Mt. Baker photo was taken from the yard where we drive in. We regret that our description was not as clear as it could be. Hope this helps our future guests!

Beautiful, comfortable, spacious home in an ideal location. If you are looking for seclusion, tranquility, and beauty, this is the place. This home looks out over the water, and offers an ever-changing visual feast with beautiful sunrises every morning. The home is clean, well maintained, very spacious, comfortably furnished with modern features, and many nice touches. It is architecturally enchanting with wood features, vaulted ceilings, and lots of big windows facing the water. The deck, BBQ, and especially the spa are very special features. The close-by park, and sea overlook is serene and enchanting. Orcas Island has many activities to offer and locations to visit. Eastsound is only minutes away by car where you find grocery stores, restaurants, and other shops. Anita and Conrad were very easy to work with, and were very responsive by email and over the phone. We had a great time in these accommodations, and only wish we could have stayed longer.

Restful Week on the island

My parents met my husband and I for the week of 8/22-29. Our daughter flew into the little Eastsound airport mid-week. The house was beautiful. All we wanted to do was sit and look at the view. It was AMAZING!!! We saw all kinds of wildlife including 3 whales. The kitchen had just about everything I needed to cook all our meals. The hot tub was great. The rocky beach was a short steep downhill walk away. It was too beautiful! It was convenient to the state park and Eastsound. There were movies, music, games and books if you could tear your eyes away from the view. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The rest of our family is now begging us to reserve it for next year.

Fabulous Aurora House

We were fortunate to find Aurora House for rental for 6 weeks this May and June....The owners are so concerned with preparing the house and property for full enjoyment by renters, it is apparent in the kitchen equipment, the comfort and beauty of the house, landscape--and response to any needs. We loved it so, and hated to leave. The view of the strait, Mt. Baker, sea life including orcas, harbor porpoises, resident bald eagles--was relaxing and restful. The sunrises were spectacular enough to urge us out of bed early to see them....and sitting in the hot tub in the evening, seeing the clouds move off of Mt. Baker, was better than any wine. Yet, it is just a scenic drive away from Eastsound and all the offerings there, like Farmer's Market, Black Dog Produce Farm, Allium restaurant, Mia's for breakfast....the Orcas center offers a lot, and the Lambiel art gallery is without parallel, and very near the property. I recommend this property very highly; the listing is accurate, photos excellent, the property is meticulously maintained, owners supremely helpful, neighbors wonderful. Can't wait to go back! This place is even more beautiful than the pictures on VBRO! The house was as wonderful as the view off the back deck. We thoroughly enjoyed our time on Orcas Island and could not have been more pleased with the accomodations. Our thanks to Anita and Conrad for allowing us the use of their wonderful house.
