Hood River house description
Enjoy this stunning historic two story Victorian house built in 1900 and perched on a bluff top corner lot adjacent to the Hood River with sweeping 270 degree dynamic views. Views include the Columbia River, Hood River, Hood River Bridge, White Salmon Bridge, Washington and East hills, peek-a-boo of Mt Hood, Fourth of July fireworks, and the occasional Mt Hood Railroad tourist train. Portions of the windsurfing “Event Site” and the kite boarding “Spit” are also within view. Enjoy watching the colorful chaos of windsurfers, kite boarders and sailboats while listening to the sound of the Hood River below.
Without neighbors on two sides and a vacant lot to the north, the unfenced wind-protected private back yard and deck has the same views as the house and is a perfect location to watch human and wildlife activities in the surrounding river gorges below while grilling on the brand new Weber grill under the shade of gnarled oak trees. Sandy uncrowded beaches on the Hood River are only 220 feet away. Walk 2 blocks west to the Indian Creek Trail for running, walking and bike riding along the Hood River. Watch eagles and osprey hunt high above the Hood River and chipmunks and quail scurry about. Walk 8 blocks northwest to Historic Downtown Hood River and all its amenities; see points of interest map below. Minutes from fishing, boating, kite boarding and wind surfing on the Columbia River. 35 miles to Mt Hood Meadows ski resort, 25 miles to family-friendly Cooper Spur Ski Resort, 50 miles to year-round snow at Timberline Lodge and 21 miles to snow parks for tubing.
The home is fully set up to act as your base for day excursions and quiet refuge for rejuvenation. The living room has views of both rivers, a gas fireplace, and a 46' LCD HDTV. The office has a computer with 5mbps internet access, Wi-Fi, printer/scanner/copier and a house phone with unlimited local and domestic long distance. The kitchen with gas range, large windows and 26' LCD HDTV is conveniently located adjacent to indoor and outdoor dining spaces. The expanded cable service in the living room and kitchen offers 75 TV channels and 45 music channels to enjoy while while cooking, dining or entertaining. The Main floor east bedroom has a king bed and view of the Hood River. The upstairs north bedroom has a queen bed and views of both rivers. The upstairs south master bedroom has a queen bed, half bath (toilet & sink) and views of the Hood River and peek-a-boo of Mt Hood. Both upstairs bedrooms have 27' TVs with basic cable and IPod/MP3 dock clock radios.
Extra sleeping capacity is provided by a twin daybed with trundle that can be combined to make a king bed in the living room and three small foam mattresses that can be used anywhere. Lockable gear storage is located under the north porch. Two off-street parking spaces and free on-street parking is available. Pets and large groups considered for additional fee, please inquire.

SO PEACEFUL AND COMFORTABLE!
SO PEACEFUL AND COMFORTABLE!
Our group of five ladies met here for a reunion! We found the house to be comfortable, quiet and equipped with all the necessities. I was a little concerned booking a house with only one shower, however, we managed quite nicely! The outside deck and view is terrific and would be awesome in the summer. We were able to park four cars safely off the street. The owners were very responsive to our needs.

Charming Comfortable House
Charming Comfortable House
We love to come to Hood River in the fall. It is so gorgeous. We were very lucky to find the Bluff House and certainly did enjoy our visit. The house is very charming and comfortable and is in a great location. We walked into town for dinner and shopping and there is a lovely trail through the woods just a block away. The views from every window in the house are incredible! The back porch is huge and we really enjoyed sitting out there in the afternoon to enjoy the view. We are grateful that we were able to bring our two little dogs. They loved exploring the neighborhood with us. The house is very clean and well-stocked. Since there were only two of us we just used the downstairs but there are additional bedrooms and a bath on the second floor. It was nice to have the master bedroom on the main floor. The eating nook is very large (seats 8) and is open and airy with a lovely view of the trees. The owners were very responsive and helpful. We highly recommend this property.

Owner response: Thanks Carol for the kind remarks. Yes, with the river and it's riparian corridor immediately to the east and south of the house you have a front row seat to the local fall colors and wildlife. Large groups greater than 8 people will find additional seating for meals at the large picnic table on the deck or living room coffee table.
Columbia Gorge Comfort & Convenience
Columbia Gorge Comfort & Convenience
Our stay at Cliff House was just what we wanted as we explored the wineries and other attractions of the Hood River Valley and the Washington side of the Columbia Gorge. There were six adults, and the house is designed so everyone could have space to themselves, or be with others. We particularly enjoyed the modern sunny, open-feeling of the dining area and large kitchen. The natural gas heat is great and the gas fireplace was a hit to brighten up the evenings. The many large windows not only made the rooms lighter, but made it possible to enjoy the views of the Columbia and the hills while seated. Some in our party enjoyed walking around the house analyzing the many remodels during the 100-year life of the house. Although the weather kept us from using the deck and other parts of the yard, we could see how they would add to the enjoyment of a stay here. Friendly, helpful hosts and they obviously care for the house AND for the comfort and enjoyable stay of guests. We will recommend this house to friends.

Six of my friends stayed in the house and absolutely loved it. Well stocked kitchen, clean, comfortable beds, lovely views. We appreciated the comfortable seating and as we are older women, needed some straight chairs for sitting as well as the comfy couches, the house is well decorated and inviting. The only slight disadvantage is that there is only one shower and with seven women, that took some planning. Even so, we loved it and would definitely return.

Owner response: Thanks Linda! Glad she worked out for your reunion of friends. It's true, for larger groups our two bathroom, zero tub, one total shower historic home will require advance planning if everybody needs to bathe in a compressed period of time. Fortunately, the entry room and all three bedrooms have large or full length mirrors so post-bathing activities can be completed there if helpful.

Beautiful, spacious, comfortable - And what a view!!!
Beautiful, spacious, comfortable - And what a view!!!
Beautiful house perched above the Hood River. So close to town, easy walk down the hill to Downtown Hood River and great coffee shops, restaurants and shopping. We spent almost all of our time at the house on the large decks, there's 2 of them. Perfect place for morning coffee or dinner on the BBQ. The living room is comfortable and has a great TV with surround sound if you need to watch the game. Look forward to returning!

Owner response: Thanks for the kind remarks! When you return, you'll wanna check out the 3rd deck. =) For people who haven't visited yet, there are decks with some form of sitting area on the southeast, southwest and north sides of the house, so you can always find a space that will work with the weather you're given.

We spent a long week-end at your house to celebrate a birthday and could not have been more pleased. Loved the charm of the victorian house. It was very clean and was stocked with everything we needed--and more! Owners are easy to work with. We spent most of the time on the deck enjoying the flowers, scenery and even an eagle soaring above. Didn't even turn on the TV! Would love to come back.
