SOUGHT-AFTER NEIGHBORHOOD - NEAR OPEN SPACE AND HIKING TRAILS. Our 4-Bedroom/2-1/2-Bath home (fully furnished) in southwest Boulder’s beautiful Devil’s Thumb neighborhood is only 20-minutes from downtown Boulderby public transportation) or 10 minutes by car. The house has lots of sleeping space in separated sections of the house. The decks on the north side have views to the NCAR (the National Center for Atmospheric Research - the I. M. Pei designed building on the hills southwest of the city), and the upstairs has a balcony with views southwest to mountains near Devil’s Thumb rock. Our home is only 2.5 blocks from where trails within Boulder's public open space begin and within short walking distance to recreational facilities at nearby parks, playgrounds, and public recreation centers. There is air-conditioning for warm days, but the nights are often cool.
GREAT FOR YOUR FAMILY OR LARGER GATHERINGS. Our home has two living rooms (three couches total), a dining room table with a side bench as well as chairs, and a large back deck with patio furniture. The house has double garage, some off-street in the driveway, and is on a cul-de-sac with very little traffic. The upstairs (over the garage) has an additional couch (sleeper sofa), chairs, desks, and a wood-burning stove.
RATES charged depend upon demand, so feel free to contact us for discounted rates.
TRAILS to Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks start nearby - some nearly flat (south along the prairie grasslands) and others ascending to Bear Peak (8461 ft high - 90 minutes to the top) and nearby South Boulder Peak (8549 ft.). Hiking or jogging on these trails can provide you not only a good workout (our home within the city limits is at about 5800 ft.), but also a forest experience that is only minutes away (natural beauty, wildlife, photography, solitude or a lunch spot). Even if you only hike part way up, you will have commanding views of the entire Front Range. And if you reach the first saddle on the way to Bear Peak, you will experience views west to the Continental Divide as well. Or take the prairie trails and enjoy the constantly changing views west to the Front Range mountains - all part of Boulder's Open Space and Mountain Parks.
YARD. The yard on the west side of our home is suitable for croquet or badminton. The north yard contains the decks off our living room and has barbecue and smoker, views to the mountains, and fruit trees (cherries done, apples yet to come - pick your own when ripe), and concord grapes (started this year). South yard has large silver maple with cargo net anchored to the ground and reaching up to first branch. If you are not a cat, you may want to limit your climbs to about there (but the garage has an extension ladder if parents need to use it!).
CLOSE TO OTHER RECREATIONAL & CULTURAL OPPORTUNITIES - Other trails, mountain peaks, parks, University of Colorado (Shakespeare Theater, Macky Auditorium, Gruisin Music Hall, summer music performances), Chautauqua Park (dining hall and auditorium for summer concerts and other events)- see Wikipedia for its origins. We settled on this location in part because it is near to open space opportunities, but also because the neighborhood has open walkways (not fenced in) and open play areas and play sets and because it is close to school playgrounds, has bicycling trails that start on-street, but then continue off-street crossing under city streets to the Boulder's bike trail system that extends far north and east. Public transportation (via small buses) starts three blocks away near the entry to the neighborhood. Additional hiking trails start at Chatagua park and continue to the Flatirons rocks (frequented by rock climbers), Green Mountain, and back south along the Mesa Trail to NCAR and our neighborhood, as well as farther south to the South Mesa Trailhead near Eldorado Springs (climbind mecca for serious climbers).
FAMILY FRIENDLY. We have toys for all ages stored in the garage and available for your use.
UNIQUE AND INTERESTING FURNISHINGS. You will see antique and one-of-a-kind furniture in most every room, obtained through years of collecting. Come see a coffee table shaped like a stack of three huge books.
OTHER NEARBY ATTRACTIONS. Swim in a pool fed by natural hot springs at nearby Eldorado State Park. Drive to Flagstaff Mountain and see wonderful views west to the Continental Divide. You can walk through the University of Colorado campus and visit its museums, planetarium, and library. Drive to Estes Park (about 70 minutes away) - the gateway city to Rocky Mountain National Park. The park's scenic Trail Ridge Road has long stretches above timberline through the mountain tundra and has already experienced its first snows. The Continental Divide is also accessible from Golden (going west through Clear Creek Canyon or on I-70) at either Loveland Pass or Berthoud Pass - about 60 minutes away. Travel time to reach Denver International Airport depends on time of day and route. It is accessible via freeways or via a noncongested tollway (50 minutes). There is frequent public transportation to DIA and to downtown Denver (Rockies baseball, etc.).
PHOTOGRAPHS. More to be added (or e-mail your request - e.g. for inside rooms).
