Pacific Ocean Front, Private, Romantic, Whale Watch from Deck!
- Minimum stay:2 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
This is our second home and is not your typical stripped rental home. The house has wonderful art and nautical antiques. The full Pacific Ocean view is amazing. This is a terrific honeymoon or special anniversary home. It is common to see sea lions and whales in front. The sunsets and stars at night are spectacular.
The 3 guest rooms consist of 1 queen and 1 double bed and 1 double (Lazy Boy) hide-a bed. There is also another inflatable double mattress available for kids. The restored pool table is over 120 years old. Directly in front of the home is tide pooling and shoreline excursions. A short walk to Black Sands Beach and the trailhead for the 'Lost Coast' wilderness area. A 30 minute drive to the world famous 'Avenue of the Giants' redwood forest.

My husband and I had a wonderful vacation in Shelter Cove. The home is just stunning. It is located literally 10 feet from the ocean! We sat out on the deck with our glasses of wine looking for whales. What fun! We visited the tide pools, read books, and hiked a bit. At night we enjoyed watching movies with the door open - listening to the waves crash and the fog horn blow. Our stay was very relaxing which was just what we needed. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us. We will definitely be back!Recommended for: Girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

Did not have live t.v.. Basically had no decent restaurants and were not open very often. Deck furniture consisted of plastic chairs. The house was not very clean. The nearest grocery store was forty-five minutes away over the mountain. Had to work on the toilets to get them to work as well as the front door because the door handle kept falling off or would not lock. I think this place was mis-represented and was a total waste of money. The worst vacation we have ever had!Owner response: We have had nothing but the highest reviews over the past years. Unfortunately this guest failed to realize that this property is located in a small ocean community. There are no Costco or AppleBees in Shelter Cove. Sadly, I think he had some other personal issues that were a factor in his stay. He was offered a full refund but declined and choose to stay for the week.

This home was wonderful. Clean, comfortable, and an excellent ocean front location. I loved listening to the crashing waves at night. My family and I loved watching the seals swim in the waves while we were eating breakfast. The tidal pools were filled with extraordinary life and provided hours of exploring. The redwoods were breathtaking. It was a short walk to seal rock, where we saw 40 white and black seals basking in the sun. Blacksand beach was very close and was drapped in an end-to-end rainbow. The house was very relaxing. It was a seemless checkin and checkout. The owner was very kind to explain to bring all the food and supplies necessary as the access drive into the cove is very long and curvy. This is a beautiful area and we enjoyed all of this in December!Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners, families with teenagers, girls getaway, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, sightseeing.

We stayed in late July 2009. The temps in shelter cove were 70's while the temps on the other side of the mountain more inland were 100's. Shelter cove stays COOL! Our kids loved this home and were very sad to leave. From the visiting deer and seal out back, to the pool table and darts inside, they loved every minute. This mom appreciated the well appointed kitchen! All amenities were top notch and this home provided easy access to the Redwoods and the Black Sands beach (which is truly "black". A unique and "moon" like experience.) Would come back in a heartbeat if I could.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

What a beautiful house! My husband and I visited beautiful Shelter Cove in mid September. The drive from Highway 101 was incredibly beautiful. When we descended into the Shelter Cove area it was breathtaking. The pictures can't do justice to the beautiful unobstructed view of the rugged, rocky contours of the coastline that are so amazing from any view in the house. The house is exquisitely decorated.. The attention to detail in the interiors is striking. Throughout the length of the Shelter Cove coastline there are many park supported areas that jut out to offer great views of the mountains, seals and bird life. At the very end of the island we were excited to see 100s of sea lions congregated on a rock formation. Very beautiful. The hospitality of the owners was outstanding. Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

About the owner: Heidi and I absolutely love the ocean. We are both self employed and require frequent getaways to completely relax. We are fortuneate enough to able to 'fly in' to Shelter Cove in our Beechcraft Bonanza. We love to share this amazing place with our VRBO friends.
Why the Owner Chose Shelter Cove:
Shelter Cove is one of the last places where you can own a home right on the Pacific Ocean. It is very quant and the people are very friendly. It has a great public airstrip. The natural wildlife and fishing is amazing, not to mention the whales breaching in front of the house!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Ocean kayaking, fishing, abalone diving, and relaxing! Oh the sunsets are unbelievable.
