Perfect place to stay during a trip to DC...

This is probably one of the best rental units you'll find in DC in terms of the affordability, amenities and most importantly the LOCATION. Located a block away from Union Station, you have easy access to Amtrak, the Metro and car rental companies to help get you around town and even have easy transportation to the surrounding areas. I arrived on an Amtrak train and only had to walk a block with my luggage to get to the room. During my stay, getting around town was easy on the Metro and there were several good restaurants in Union Station and just down the street. I even rented a car for a day at the station to tour Monticello and the surrounding historic towns. The grocery stores nearby were very convenient for making simple meals in the room to save a little money. I left town on an Amtrak train that took me straight to Baltimore Intl. where I got a much cheaper flight than those out of Reagan and Dulles. For a budget traveller like me who likes to stretch my money as far as it can go, this unit was great. As for the room itself, it was very clean and comfortable. I did some cooking while staying there and had no problem finding everything I needed in the kitchen. Ingrid was very helpful and made every effort to make sure that my stay at the Suite was enjoyable. I had one minor issue with the thermostat in the room and after texting her about it, she was there literally in minutes and fixed the problem. Good luck getting that kind of customer service at a hotel. All I can say is that if you're looking for a comfortable, convenient and affordable place to stay during your trip to DC, stop looking...you've found it. Next time I'm in DC I'll definitely be calling Ingrid to book the Suite.

My family of 4 were very happy in this partment. We were indeed a little concern of the review about the bedroom size, but it turned out to be very confy for my husband and I. The kids stay in the living room in a very comfortable large size day bed. I thought this was more comfortable than the sofa bed they slept in NY city apartment. The day bed was big enought for our 2 teens girls since the trundle comes out. The mattresses of the day bed were superb. Location was excellent. We walked everywhere with no need of a car. We took the metro a few times when we were very tired and then just walk 1 block to the "Suite". Ingrid checked on us to make sure we were happy. By the way there are a few steps down to the apartment. It is a basement above level with its front and back entrance. Huge windows, tons of light. We never heard the guests in the unit above us. We met the family of 6 from Australia one day when both families were heading to sigthseeing the city.. I would definetly recommend this apartment to any family (great price for location), couples and seniors. Chile, Family Torres

We arrived at Union Station about 7:30 pm, in the dark. It was great to have Ingrid pick us up and deliver us the block and a half to the apartment. The apartment was true to its description. However, the description really should have included the fact that this is a basement apartment. It didn't occur to me to ask about this when I phoned to make the reservation because looking at the Google Earth photo, the house appears to have a few steps up. Not being familiar with brownstones or row houses, I assumed the apartment to be at or near street level. The stairs to the basement were ok for me, but would not work for some. The apartment itself was clean, clean, clean and full of light for a basement. The space was tight and I agree with the previous reviewer that the TV hanging from the ceiling would help the space issue. We felt the apartment to be a very good value. The location was absolutely perfect! We walked and walked and saw everything we could in the time we had. Halloween was a wonderful evening to walk about and enjoy the neighborhood. The corner store was perfect for the few kitchen supplies we needed. The corner restaurant was good with a delightful wait staff. All in all, we had a lovely experience and if we return to DC, we'll certainly consider the Suite Up On The Hill again.

Location is unbeatable. The personal welcome at Union Station was a lovely gesture. The apartment is basic but perfectly adequate. The sofa-bed in the livingroom is so far off the floor that it is impossible to sit on it comfortably. The table is quite high and the chairs uncomfortable. The TV is in the bedroom where space is at the moment quite limited; TV should be in the living area on the wall above the table. kitchen is well fitted out and bathroom ok with a good shower. Wifi and ipod player are good. We had an enjoyable visit to Washington DC and thank Ingrid for stopping by to say hello.
Owner response:We are very pleased to know you enjoyed your stay with us. The sofa bed is actually a day bed with a trundle that's why it is a little higher than a normal couch. The day bed is probably more comfortable if you lay on it since it has a brand new mattress. We always like to hear our guests tips and advice therefore we'll try to make some arrangements to the bedroom and the dining room. Thanks again

Our stay at the suite was wonderful. Great location, comfortable, CLEAN, charming, easy walking distance, and best of all - air conditioning during record heat. So nice to come home to, and it did really feel like home for the 5 nights we stayed. Ingrid was very helpful when we had a question and put us at ease immediately.

Review of Suite on the Hill Hard to believe you can enjoy birds singing and crickets chirping a block from Union Station! We've stayed at other hotels in the area, enduring loud talk in the halls, blaring neighbors' TVs, sirens and dumpsters all night, and construction noise all day. Suite Up On The Hill is tranquil and quiet, so you can enjoy working, dining, sleeping, or listening to your own oversized TV or stereo any hour you like. After a few days there, you really feel less like a hotel visitor and more like a member of the community--and only wish you could stay longer! Owners Deon and Ingrid know the area intimately and can provide you with great advice on local shopping and activities. They have clearly poured a lot of time and thought into making their place clean and pleasant. More than that, they really care about their guests, and go out of their way to see that you are comfortable. One night we had a concern with the cooling system and e-mailed them, thinking we should not trouble them with a phone call too late at night. Deon came over and fixed the problem in the middle of the night! Talk about service! As other reviews have mentioned, the Suite is next door to the Federal Securities Commission, walkable to dozens of great restaurants, shopping, the National Mall, the Folger Library and Library of Congress. For two or three people, the half-basement suite is economical, comfortable, and larger than any hotel suite. For four to six people, the two-floor upper suite is elegant and spacious, with gorgeous wood flooring and paneling. The suites are fully furnished with all the dining and cooking utensils you might want for a long stay. Whether spending a short week or several months in DC, we can't think of a more convenient and reasonable place. Highly recommended! CB & AO, Japan

The listing was very accurate of all of the amenities that were available to us during our 7 night stay. The photos give you a good feel for the cozy "suite" that is a perfect base for all jump off points to explore DC. Close to the metro at Union Station, yet the whole Mall and Capitol are an easy walk. We even walked to our tour of the White House and got there by 7:30 AM. Ingrid was very accommodating as we arrived early yet we could leave our bags and go exploring, and we even left late and she made it work. She checked on us after the earthquake, and the suite was still perfect, and we even left the day of the hurricane and she checked to make sure we could get away and offered us 2 nights if we needed them. The Suite is very clean and obviously well maintained, you have everything you need to enjoy a wonderful vacation in DC. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Suite to friends, family or strangers :)

My family and I stayed at the "Suite" for 8 nights. It was an unbelievably great experience. This rental is perfect for a family of four and is way better than a hotel in my opinion. It has a location that cannot be beat as it is really close to Union Station. The service was second to none as Ingrid wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for our stay. The Metro is perfect for getting around and the Capitol is within walking distance. There are a plethora of restaurants and shops close by. The neighborhood is very safe and it is fun to walk around and see the row houses. Ingrid really took care of us as we came in very late and she met us and made sure we felt at home. The AC worked well thank goodness as it was warm during our stay. The kitchen is great to cook and have a quick breakfast before the start of your day. This really is a perfect home base when vacationing in DC with your family.

We went to a medical meeting to Washington and stayed with a friend couple and my daughter for four nights. The place is clean, not noisy at night and two blocks away from Union station where you can get to the metro station as well. The Suite is a two story place with two rooms, one bathroom up and one downstairs. We definitely enjoyed our stay there and what we considered most important is that Ingrid (your contact at Washington) is a really nice person and really shows great interest in having you satisfied. We strongly recommend it!!

We had an excellent stay at the "Suite up on the Hill". We took the train into Washington DC, and we were able to walk from Union Station to the house in less than 5 minutes. The place was just the right size for 2 adults and 2 children. We would definitely stay there again! Thanks Ingrid!
