Excellent for our family of 4

Guest: Dawn B.

The suite was exactly as noted! Clean, comfortable and close to everything! We will defiantly seek it out for another trip in the future and recommend it to others! The neighborhood felt safe and the space was just what we needed. We were able to make dinners at “home” after a long day of touring around the city then happy to go out for an evening stroll to the market for the next day’s provisions. The owner is very attentive and makes it well known that she is available should you need anything. The rental really made our vacation!

GREAT experience

Guest: Jeanne (Victoria, BC, Canada)
Date of Stay: 04/06/12 Review Submitted: 04/22/12

I am just home from a great stay in DC in the Suite on the Hill - Unit 1 (basement suite). It's a lovely apartment that feels like home compared to a hotel room. I went with my 3 sisters and we all enjoyed the accommodation. This would be excellent for a couple or a couple with 2 kids, but the 4 of us felt we had enough room. The best part of the suite is its location - a short walk to the metro (5 mins.) but also within walking distance of Eastern Market, the Capitol Building, Barracks Row restaurants and shopping etc etc. No one would regret their experience with Ingrid! Go, go, GO!

Perfect Capitol Hill "No-Car" Vacation Location

This walking distance from everywhere property was perfect for our family, Everything we needed was there, and we managed to feel like locals for a week. Ingrid treated us like family and even recognized us "on the street" by calling us out by name. Would recommend to anyone up to a family of four to enjoy their time in DC.

A great find!

Guest: Aliki F.
Date of Stay: 03/20/12 Review Submitted: 04/04/12

We were lucky to find this lovely accommodation after a long search online. As a family of 3 we needed a centrally located flat for our 4 day visit to Washington. Suite upon the Hill was perfect! It is exactly as described and shown on the photos, spotless, super clean and tidy and well equipped. The location is second to none, just next to the Capitol and Union Station on a quiet street with lots of character. The coffee house across the street and the little Italian restaurant a few houses further down are very convenient and a small super market is just 2' away. My son is 6'4 and he could sleep on the sofa-bed (the biggest piece of furniture I have ever seen!) comfortably. The double bed was a bit tight for us, but there isn't more space for a larger bed and anyway the bedroom has its own flat TV screen and is tastefully decorated. Plenty of storage space too. Ingrid was very welcoming and helpful and really cares about her guests and the flat. This is a private business and she wants her guests to be happy. We certainly recommend the Suite and hope to be back soon. Many thanks Ingrid and Deon.

DC VACATION

Guest: silvana (CHILE)
Date of Stay: 11/03/11 Review Submitted: 12/02/11

My family of 4 were very happy in this partment. We were indeed a little concern of the review about the bedroom size, but it turned out to be very confy for my husband and I. The kids stay in the living room in a very comfortable large size day bed. I thought this was more comfortable than the sofa bed they slept in NY city apartment. The day bed was big enought for our 2 teens girls since the trundle comes out. The mattresses of the day bed were superb. Location was excellent. We walked everywhere with no need of a car. We took the metro a few times when we were very tired and then just walk 1 block to the "Suite". Ingrid checked on us to make sure we were happy. By the way there are a few steps down to the apartment. It is a basement above level with its front and back entrance. Huge windows, tons of light. We never heard the guests in the unit above us. We met the family of 6 from Australia one day when both families were heading to sigthseeing the city.. I would definetly recommend this apartment to any family (great price for location), couples and seniors. Chile, Family Torres

A Nice Cozy Place

Guest: Leslie and Melvin (Hubbard, Oregon)
Date of Stay: 10/30/11 Review Submitted: 11/25/11

We arrived at Union Station about 7:30 pm, in the dark. It was great to have Ingrid pick us up and deliver us the block and a half to the apartment. The apartment was true to its description. However, the description really should have included the fact that this is a basement apartment. It didn't occur to me to ask about this when I phoned to make the reservation because looking at the Google Earth photo, the house appears to have a few steps up. Not being familiar with brownstones or row houses, I assumed the apartment to be at or near street level. The stairs to the basement were ok for me, but would not work for some. The apartment itself was clean, clean, clean and full of light for a basement. The space was tight and I agree with the previous reviewer that the TV hanging from the ceiling would help the space issue. We felt the apartment to be a very good value. The location was absolutely perfect! We walked and walked and saw everything we could in the time we had. Halloween was a wonderful evening to walk about and enjoy the neighborhood. The corner store was perfect for the few kitchen supplies we needed. The corner restaurant was good with a delightful wait staff. All in all, we had a lovely experience and if we return to DC, we'll certainly consider the Suite Up On The Hill again.

Perfect place to stay during a trip to DC...

Guest: J M.
Date of Stay: 10/22/11 Review Submitted: 01/25/12

This is probably one of the best rental units you'll find in DC in terms of the affordability, amenities and most importantly the LOCATION. Located a block away from Union Station, you have easy access to Amtrak, the Metro and car rental companies to help get you around town and even have easy transportation to the surrounding areas. I arrived on an Amtrak train and only had to walk a block with my luggage to get to the room. During my stay, getting around town was easy on the Metro and there were several good restaurants in Union Station and just down the street. I even rented a car for a day at the station to tour Monticello and the surrounding historic towns. The grocery stores nearby were very convenient for making simple meals in the room to save a little money. I left town on an Amtrak train that took me straight to Baltimore Intl. where I got a much cheaper flight than those out of Reagan and Dulles. For a budget traveller like me who likes to stretch my money as far as it can go, this unit was great. As for the room itself, it was very clean and comfortable. I did some cooking while staying there and had no problem finding everything I needed in the kitchen. Ingrid was very helpful and made every effort to make sure that my stay at the Suite was enjoyable. I had one minor issue with the thermostat in the room and after texting her about it, she was there literally in minutes and fixed the problem. Good luck getting that kind of customer service at a hotel. All I can say is that if you're looking for a comfortable, convenient and affordable place to stay during your trip to DC, stop looking...you've found it. Next time I'm in DC I'll definitely be calling Ingrid to book the Suite.

Suite on the Hill

Guest: C&J (Melbourne, Australia)
Date of Stay: 09/27/11 Review Submitted: 11/09/11

Location is unbeatable. The personal welcome at Union Station was a lovely gesture. The apartment is basic but perfectly adequate. The sofa-bed in the livingroom is so far off the floor that it is impossible to sit on it comfortably. The table is quite high and the chairs uncomfortable. The TV is in the bedroom where space is at the moment quite limited; TV should be in the living area on the wall above the table. kitchen is well fitted out and bathroom ok with a good shower. Wifi and ipod player are good. We had an enjoyable visit to Washington DC and thank Ingrid for stopping by to say hello.

Owner response:We are very pleased to know you enjoyed your stay with us. The sofa bed is actually a day bed with a trundle that's why it is a little higher than a normal couch. The day bed is probably more comfortable if you lay on it since it has a brand new mattress. We always like to hear our guests tips and advice therefore we'll try to make some arrangements to the bedroom and the dining room. Thanks again

Review of Suite on the Hill Hard to believe you can enjoy birds singing and crickets chirping a block from Union Station! We've stayed at other hotels in the area, enduring loud talk in the halls, blaring neighbors' TVs, sirens and dumpsters all night, and construction noise all day. Suite Up On The Hill is tranquil and quiet, so you can enjoy working, dining, sleeping, or listening to your own oversized TV or stereo any hour you like. After a few days there, you really feel less like a hotel visitor and more like a member of the community--and only wish you could stay longer! Owners Deon and Ingrid know the area intimately and can provide you with great advice on local shopping and activities. They have clearly poured a lot of time and thought into making their place clean and pleasant. More than that, they really care about their guests, and go out of their way to see that you are comfortable. One night we had a concern with the cooling system and e-mailed them, thinking we should not trouble them with a phone call too late at night. Deon came over and fixed the problem in the middle of the night! Talk about service! As other reviews have mentioned, the Suite is next door to the Federal Securities Commission, walkable to dozens of great restaurants, shopping, the National Mall, the Folger Library and Library of Congress. For two or three people, the half-basement suite is economical, comfortable, and larger than any hotel suite. For four to six people, the two-floor upper suite is elegant and spacious, with gorgeous wood flooring and paneling. The suites are fully furnished with all the dining and cooking utensils you might want for a long stay. Whether spending a short week or several months in DC, we can't think of a more convenient and reasonable place. Highly recommended! CB & AO, Japan

Great vacation base

Guest: Sally (Seattle, WA)
Date of Stay: 08/20/11 Review Submitted: 09/07/11

The listing was very accurate of all of the amenities that were available to us during our 7 night stay. The photos give you a good feel for the cozy "suite" that is a perfect base for all jump off points to explore DC. Close to the metro at Union Station, yet the whole Mall and Capitol are an easy walk. We even walked to our tour of the White House and got there by 7:30 AM. Ingrid was very accommodating as we arrived early yet we could leave our bags and go exploring, and we even left late and she made it work. She checked on us after the earthquake, and the suite was still perfect, and we even left the day of the hurricane and she checked to make sure we could get away and offered us 2 nights if we needed them. The Suite is very clean and obviously well maintained, you have everything you need to enjoy a wonderful vacation in DC. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Suite to friends, family or strangers :)

My family and I stayed at the "Suite" for 8 nights. It was an unbelievably great experience. This rental is perfect for a family of four and is way better than a hotel in my opinion. It has a location that cannot be beat as it is really close to Union Station. The service was second to none as Ingrid wanted to make sure that everything was perfect for our stay. The Metro is perfect for getting around and the Capitol is within walking distance. There are a plethora of restaurants and shops close by. The neighborhood is very safe and it is fun to walk around and see the row houses. Ingrid really took care of us as we came in very late and she met us and made sure we felt at home. The AC worked well thank goodness as it was warm during our stay. The kitchen is great to cook and have a quick breakfast before the start of your day. This really is a perfect home base when vacationing in DC with your family.

So nice to come home to, and it did really feel like home for the 5 nights we stayed. Ingrid was very helpful when we had a question and put us at ease immediately.

My family of three stayed here for 7 nights. Great location close to Union Station and neighborhood restaurants. Kitchenette is handy for the times you want to eat in and there is a little market just on the corner with a better stocked grocery two blocks away. Ebeneezers Coffee Shop is across the street and a lovely place to grab breakfast or just sit and enjoy the morning before you head out. The apartment is cozy, a good size for a couple or small family, well appointed, and clean. Ingrid is an awesome hostess and a phone call away if anything is needed!

We had a great stay. The location couldn't be better. The only time we took the metro was to go into Alexandria. I do wish the TV was in the main living area though, maybe a flat screen hung on the wall. The only problem we encountered was signing on to the internet. The passwords in the book did not work for our iPad. We really liked being able to eat breakfast in the suite before we started our day and we ate leftovers one night. All in all it was a great place.

We went to a medical meeting to Washington and stayed with a friend couple and my daughter for four nights. The place is clean, not noisy at night and two blocks away from Union station where you can get to the metro station as well. The Suite is a two story place with two rooms, one bathroom up and one downstairs. We definitely enjoyed our stay there and what we considered most important is that Ingrid (your contact at Washington) is a really nice person and really shows great interest in having you satisfied. We strongly recommend it!!

Our family of four (including our 14 year old son and 12 year old daughter) had a wonderful time staying in this apartment in April 2011. The apartment is described accurately and the owner was a pleasure to deal with. It is also very clean and is well appointed. The apartment’s central location, within 3 minutes walking distance to the train and bus network and some of the world’s most famous museums and monuments make it an ideal place to stay for families. Shopping in the area is all within a short walk so it is ideal for visitor without a car. The building is safe and secure and we would love to stay here again if we have another chance to visit. The coffee shop on the corner was a real treat to start the day.

We had a great time at "The Suite". Deon and Ingrid accommodated us on our late arrival and gave us helpful tips on the area. There is a grocery store at the end of the block and an even better one 2 blocks away. We also enjoyed the eastern market and the proximity to union station. We took in all the sites and the metro made it easy to get around with a stroller to boot. We got to see our first NFL game and take in a Nationals game as well. We were also able to do laundry at a laundromat within walking distance. We will recommend "The Suite" to all our friends and family should they wish to travel to D.C. Thank You for a great Vacation Spot!

We had a great stay in Washington DC at the Suite Up On The Hill. It was a short walk over to the train station and the Metro, or to the Capital and the Mall; it was perfect for a no-car stay. Ingrid came to pick us up at the train station when we arrived, which was a nice touch in the summer heat, and very appreciated. Having Ebenezer"s Coffee 1/2 block away was a big plus- we went every morning and had coffee and a pastry, or one of their breakfast tacos. It was a friendly place to sit and read a book in the afternoon and take a break from sightseeing. We were a party of 3, and the couch/daybed was more comfortable than a pull out sofa for our 15 yr old daughter. The apt was clean and well decorated, and I'd definitely recommend a stay there!

My adult daughter, her sons (13 and 11) and I had a great time at the Suite Up On The Hill. Comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. What more could you want? The location could not be better. Perhaps a 5 minute walk to Union Station which has transportation around town or in and out via buses and AmTrak. Also, all the tours originate at Union Station. Needed a rental car one day and got that at Union Station. Had a lovely dinner at Toscani about 5 doors down from the apartment one evening. Morning coffee, papers and afternoon ice teas from Ebenezers on the opposite corner. Any basic shopping you need is half a block away at Martin's Market. This apartment met our needs perfectly. Since we did not come close to seeing everything, I expect we will return to the Suite Up On The Hill. I had the best vacation ever!

My husband and I and our two daughters aged 18 and 20 stayed for four nights and thought the 'Suite' was perfect for our needs. The location is just amazing, you can easily walk to all the main attractions and the metro at Union station is only a few minutes away if you do get tired! The 'Suite' has a new sofabed in the lounge area which our daughters found very comfortable as it became two full size single beds with thick mattresses (some sofabeds aren't that good). The 'Suite' is actually in the basement of the owners property so they are there to offer advice and help if needed which is very comforting. Although quite small we certainly recommend the 'Suite' as it offers great value for money and as there is so much to see and do in Washington DC you are hardly ever in!

Good location very nice people! A block from Union Station. Landlord is right upstairs (althought everything was fine and we did not need them). Window A/C in the bedroom and portable in the living room so more noisy then central air. Everything was clean and the bed was small but comfortable. Some flooring, appliances and paint appeared to be new. We will be coming back so I guess that gives you the bottom line.

The Location says it all for this very convenient property in our Nation's Capitol. Only a few short minutes to walk to Union Station: D.C's busy hub of shops and transportation. Clean, and functional, the Property was exactly as decribed by the Owners in a safe, quiet and relaxing neighborhood. A fine coffee shop is on the corner, and another corner had a fine Italian restaurant, virtually, only steps away. The kitchen is very well equipped and it enabled us to save on restaurant breakfast costs; a small local grocery, also only steps away, is a convenient neighborhood feature. Upon our arrival, one of the owners met us, right on time and we got to speak with both of them during our stay...this made us feel very much at home. In short, if you are looking for a good location, priced correctly, in the Nation's Capitol, do consider a stay at "The Suite Upon the Hill". Kim and Pam

Convenient, quiet and cozy best describes the " Suite Up On The Hill". The location is perfect to take in all the sights. Leave the car behind and catch the bus at Union Station, less than 2 blocks. The neighborhood is busting with positive energy and countless dining options: Italian, Mexican, and American are all a short walk. Our hosts, Ingrid and Deon were gracious and welcoming. We visited " Suite Up On The Hill" with our children, age 8 & 6, and look forward to additional visits in the coming years.

It's our first trip to DC and staying at the Suite was truly the icing on the cake of a great trip! The apartment was clean, cosy and well-furnished. It was a comfortable fit for the 4 of us (all adults) and the kitchen is fully equipped if you wish to cook during your stay. The location was extremely convenient (just a 5-minute walk away from Union Station) and the neighbourhood surprisingly quiet and peaceful considering that it is so near a main station. If you want to buy groceries, there is a well-stocked grocery store less than 10 minutes away from the apartment on foot. We were also extremely grateful to Ingrid and Deon's hospitality. They were very helpful in helping us secure a good parking lot for our rental vehicle (right in front of the apartment over the weekend!) and also checking in on us now and then to make sure everything was fine. Staying at their apartment truly made our trip to DC memorable. Highly recommended! Shin (Singapore)

The neighborhood is friendly and just four blocks to the Capitol and to great restaurants and pubs on the South side of the Capitol -- and just a couple of blocks to Union Station. I loved the old brownstone homes and staying in a neighborhood setting rather than in a hotel. We will always have fond memories of our stay and Ingrid and Deon's gracious hospitality.

We enjoyed our 1-month stay at "The Suite". We found it very convenient, especially with two small children. I will definitely recommend the place for others attending AFIP at Walter Reed, as the ride on the Metro was well worth the location! Your hospitality is greatly appreciated. We will also be recommending "The Suite" to family and friends who plan to visit DC. Thank you so much!

We are so pleased with the "Suite Up On The Hill" -- not only did it meet our needs as accommodations, but Ingrid and Deon (and of course Adia) were the bonus. After a week of culture - we are ready to go, but will DEFINITELY be back. Thank you again

Dear Ingrid and Deon We loved our first stay in Washington and managed to do all of the things that we had planned to do. The "Suite Up On The Hill" is ideally located to access all of the key sites of the city and was very cosy to come home to after a long day. Thanks very much for your warm hospitality adn for making our stay more memorable. Best regards and all the best fro 2009.

Thanks for your hospitality. We loved the location to be right in the middle of the city adn enjoyed our 7 days immensely...We found it superior to staying at a hotel in this same price range.

We were so fortunate to find "Suite Up On The Hill". This is a wonderful temporary home. Union Station is only a block away and from there all of the museums and monuments are a short Metro ride. Our two suburban middle-schoolers loved the city experience in addition to the history and civics lessons. We loved having a suite and being able to cook and let the family relax away from one another...kids at the TV and parents listening to NPR.

This is a wonderful base for touring monuments, memorials, museums, Capital, White House, etc. Only a block from Union Station, the METRO made travel quick and was itself a treat for our suburban kids from Colorado. By choice, we walked alot, too. The owners are gracious and cordial. Communicating about the reservation was easy, both via phone and e-mail. We didn't need anything, but it was obvious Ingrid was open to questions and requests. Our security deposit was returned quickly, with a thank-you note. The apartment is cheery, bright, inviting and clean. It's cozy, so most comfortable for 1 or 2 people. We RV for 3 months at a time so it was spacious for the 4 of us. The 10 & 12 year-old did fine on the sofa bed, but larger teens might be uncomfortable. The kids came down with bad colds so an apartment was wonderful for resting up & cooking in. Tschiffely Pharmacy in Union Station was handy for this need, and the grocery across the street is well-stocked for creating simple meals. Our 3G wireless modem made a good connection, so we didn't try the house internet connection. Wish we had spent more time in Union Station, and hear the moonlight monument tour is really good... next time.

We have enjoyed our one week stay in DC with our children. The location of your unit is the best! I have picked it on VRBO and never spent time in DC prior to this week. I could not have found a better location to stay...So close to everything, safe to walk around anytime of the day...Stores, restuarant and all tourist attractions in walking distance in a great clean and quiet unit. It is the best for a family to stay...I will recommend to my friends and collegues

After a 30 mile hike in Shenandoahs and a visit to Gettysburg Battlefield we enjoyed our 5 day visit to Washington with our Scouting friends. The location was great for access to the sites including Smithsonians, monuments, a visit with our Congressman and tour the Capitol. we really enjoyed the Suite.

Wonderful small apartment not far from the Union Station (Amtrak/Metro). The rooms are clean and well-maintained. The apartment is equipped with a kitchen (perfect for breakfast and preparing meals; dishwasher is also available) and bathtub w/ shower. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. Across the street is ebenezers coffee bar and a small grocery is located at the next junction. The Capitol and other attractions are just a short walk away (approx. 15 min.). The owners are very polite, friendly and helpful. They helped us to make a reservation for a rental car. Thank you! The reachability of the owners (e-mail and phone) is very excellent. We didn't have any problems with the reservation/transaction. We would recommend this property. This is a very nice place to stay.
