We just returned home after spending a few days at Oak Hill Cottage. This is the perfect place to relax and unwind. The cottage is situated on a large lot, surrounded by trees and shrubbery, which makes it very private. It is a treat to sit on the front porch and watch the birds as they hunt and gather from one tree to another. The porch is furnished with very comfortable chairs and a small table, and is a wonderful spot to enjoy your morning coffee or a glass of wine in the afternoon. The interior of the cottage is so charming, filled with an eclectic collection of vintage pieces, both furnishings and accessories. The kitchen is beautifully appointed with upscale granite countertops. It is stocked with everything you would need to cook an entire meal, if you want; or enjoy one of many restaurants in the area. If you are a beef lover, don't miss Jocko's Steak House! We enjoyed Oak Hill Cottage so much that we added another day at the end of our stay, because we just didn't want to rush back to reality. I would highly recommend the cottage to anyone, particularly the traveler who is tired of motels and uncomfortable beds. Another plus was that our little 13 lb. shitzu was welcome and she enjoyed the spacious fenced yard while we sat on the porch.' Thanks again, Gail for the hospitality.

We love staying somewhere we can cook and grill and the kitchen had everything we needed - like being at home. We asked about a BBQ and Gail provided a small cute charcoal grill that was perfect - we bought charcoal and grilled every night beside the patio. Washer dryer a great bonus too as we have been traveling for a few weeks. Property has private secluded garden with pretty landscaping - lots of flowers and shrubs. Although property is in owners land we did not see Gail unless we had a question - she gave us privacy. Another review said dishwasher did not work - we had no problem with it and we're very happy to not have to wash by hand! One review indicates there is no room for personal belongings - we simply moved a few items where we wanted to place our own items - this was not a problem and Gail has obviously spent a lot of time and passion in creating the decor in the cottage - which is what gives it it's charm. We have used a lot of hotels, motels and rentals in the last six months and this was the cleanest and most well equipped!

This was our third stay at the cottage, this time for two months. It is truly a home away from home for us, with everything needed to enjoy all that the Central Coast has to offer. The privacy and atmosphere are totally delightful and Gail is a great hostess who has become a dear friend as well. Golf, wine, great cuisine, local sightseeing, and pleasant afternoons on the porch enjoying the sunshine make for a terrific winter getaway. We look forward to getting back again for next December and January.

My husband and I had the pleasure to stay at the Oak Hill Cottage in October and could not have been more pleased. Not only was the cottage adorable, clean, comfortable, and affordable, the owner Gail was the most delightful and accommodating person, we may go back soon just to visit her. We loved the charm and uniqueness of the place and the wonderful grounds and landscaping. The location was very convenient and only a short hop over to the coast. It is just a few miles from a small shopping center with a couple very good restaurants. My husband is recovering from chemo treatments so having a stress free, quiet place to stay is very important to us and Gail's cottage was exactly what the doctor ordered. It is much quieter than staying right on the beach and much warmer too. We can spend the day at the beach and then head home to our cozy little cottage. It has become one of our favorite places to stay when we travel to the coast for a little R & R. We would highly recommend it to anyone who is considering staying in the area and Trixie and Lucy give it a high five to all their four legged friends as well.

We have stayed here a couple of times, most recently over the Labor Day holiday and each time is always a pleasant and relaxing stay. Coming from the solitude of a remote region in the Mojave Desert we know and love what it is like to have peace and quiet. This wonderful cottage is just like home away from home. We have enjoyed several mornings on the front porch with all the beautiful trees and tranquil setting that just seems to be all our own. The kitchen is set up so that all we bring is the food we like to prepare. The bed is very comfy, the shower is the best and all the nice little touches like the old records to play on the phonograph have made our stays something we always look forward to. Gail has always made everything so easy, from check in to check out, what always seems most important is for us to simply enjoy our time here on the central coast and have this wonderful spot to return to at the end of each day. We would recommend this cottage to anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing atmosphere.

Again, we returned to Oak Hill Cottage and loved every minute we spent there. It is the best vacation spot on the central coast that we visited. Gail is the perfect hostess, gives you complete privacy yet if you need something, she gives you immediate attention. The cottage is furnished beautifully, is extremely comfortable, the porch is wonderful for relaxing and the surroundings are beautiful. The location is near all the central coast attractions and we hope to return there next summer for our vacation. We highly recommend Oak Hill Cottage.

My husband and I have been looking forward to getting away to Nipomo for some time, and this little place seemed ideal. We have a dear dog and the yard would be enjoyable for him with a pleasant porch for us to relax. I called the owner to book a week. The weekly price was listed on VRBO, but when I called the owner, she tried to charge us more money saying the price was a mistake, although it had been that for over a year. I declined to rent it for more. She then gave in. Perhaps not a good start. She knew we had a dog. I asked about the fencing, etc. When we arrived, Gail begian to "tell" us of all her house rules. She never mentioned them to me when I was booking. Our sweet Golden was not allowed to roam the cottage yard by himself or go out by himself. We were to be with him at all times. He couldn't even lay on the porch alone. He is such a good boy and never barks, but her 3 dogs, as cute as they were, barked at us every time we stepped outside. They ran the perimeter freely, barking. It seemed unfair. We were told we had to ALWAYS keep the cottage's only door closed at all times unless going or coming and then we had to enter or leave quickly because Gail, the owner, hated bugs and did not want even one in the house. She lives on an acre so bugs and small critters are inevitable. I suggest she get a screen door then if bugs are such a problem. In Summer it will be hot in her house. She kept dropping in as we tried to unpack. She told us to READ THE HOUSE RULES ON THE DESK!!!! The House Rules were ridiculous and so many of them. Before you rent her VR, ask her to send you the rules. I would never had stayed there if she told me about all her rules to begin with. It was a very uncomfortable stay. We never ebjoyed the setting or yard like we had hoped due to her dogs and her insane yard rules for pets. The cottage pics don't show the clutter. It feels like an antique store. She has clutter everywhere and there is no place to put your things. Bathroom is nice but no shelves for toiletries. NOISEY REFRIG that vibrated and rattled the entire time. No couch, only a very hard fouton to sit on and a tiny TV. Dishwasher didn't clean. I had to handwash. The cottage is small and with all the furniture (I counted 17 hard wooden chairs) and no comfortable sitting, it was miserable. The "sitting" room was very cramped with only a one person oversized chair and 3 hard wooden chairs, tiny TV. We never used the room. Crime? We were told to always padlock the gate!
Owner response:It is regrettable that these occupants did not enjoy their stay. The statements and allegations are ridiculous. Most of the ":rules": consist of such things as to where to find extra blankets and sheets, etc. The prior nineteen (19) reviews, which are all rated 5 out of 5 stars, accurately reflect Oak Hill Cottage and its owner..

My husband and I spent about 2 1/2 mos. of vacation time at Gail's vacation rental in Nipomo during February through April. We loved the location as it was close to our pregnant daughter who lived in Arroyo Grande. The closeness of the cottage made it ideal for us to visit our daughter regularly during the weeks leading up to her delivery. We also invited guests to come spend a night with us. Gail's cottage is immaculately clean and she has every possible dish, pan, and kitchen utensil you'll need. She even provides a few extras like packets of coffee and tea, some spices and some candy for your pleasure. She has nicely decorated the cottage in a style that is very fitting for a cottage--perhaps I would even label it "English Country" as far as decor goes. She has a lot of beautiful glass objects, chandeliers, and bowls that contribute to this theme. The front porch is a delightful spot to relax and spend time eating a meal with a friend or reading a good book. Nice wind chimes blow to add to the ambience. Gail was very prompt at calling the cable repairman when the internet failed to function and likewise called for assistance on one occasion when the heater wouldn't work due to a power outage caused by a storm. Gail has a list of type-written rules where she informs the renter of her expectations and I think that is very appropriate. We, too, have listed property on VRBO and realize that not all renters take good care of rental property. We would definitely recommend this property to a friend.

The cottage again provided a true home away from home for our January on the Central Coast. It is so pleasant and secluded that it is perfect for couples seeking a quiet hideaway. The location is close to golf, wine tasting, beaches, parks, and all manner of food and shopping, all of which we enjoy. Gail is a terrific lady who is committed to the happiness of her guests. This was our second January at Oak Hill Cottage, and we love it so much that we will be staying next December as well as next January. Truly a paradise on the Central Coast.

We so enjoyed our vacation at Oak Hill Cottage. We were fortunate enough to escape the heat in Phoenix and cool down at this lovely, quiet place for two incredible months. We were delighted at the lovely, comfortable decor and all the amenities that were provided. The property was immaculate and we felt like we were living in a "Homes and Garden" magazine pick. You really need to only "bring your toothbrush" and clothes, buy some groceries on the way down Teft Street, and you can settle right in. The front porch was one of our favorite places, furnished with table and chairs and two recliners, we were able to spend lots of time there, enjoying the large private yard that surrounds the cottage, and relax in the shade of the giant oak tree and beautiful redwoods that surround the area. The cottage is located close to everything that we wanted to visit on the central coast and we enjoyed the beaches almost every day. We play golf also and there are many courses nearby. The area is full of charming little towns, markets, vineyards and wonderful restaurants and there is always something to do. Gail is a charming and delightful hostess, fun to visit and eager to help you with anything you need. But also provides you with full privacy. We can't wait to return next year. This is the best vacation spot we can recommend.

My bestfriend and I went last year to Gail's cottage for 4 days and just feel in love with it!!! It is truly a home away from home!! Just bring your clothes and stop at the store right off the freeway to buy groceries, because the kitchen is fully stocked with all the comforts of home....Gail has left no stone unturned when it comes to the comforts of her cottage. I loved it so much I brought my fiance this Memorial Day and loved it so much that we have decided to make it a yearly Memorial Day vacation...the grounds are beautiful and so peaceful...we sat on the porch with a glass of wine and listened to music for 3 hours....all the stress just melted away..... I am truly in love with Nipomo and the surrounding beach communities.....

We have just returned from a week in this property and the experience was just so different from other vacations we've had. We loved the cottaqe's privacy, the quietness, the surrounding garden, the front porch, the full kitchen, the nicely outfitted bathroom, and the comfortable bed. Everything was immaculately kept. Another part of the charm was in the way Gail has furnished the cottage with antiques, lovely dishes and linens, books, games. music -- so different from the usual time share or hotel. Oakhill Cottage will be in our memories for a long time because of its uniqueness. We truly felt special and wish we could have remained longer. Our hope is that we will be able to return some day.

I stayed here for a week in May 2010 and it was absolute heaven. A retreat surrounded by trees, quiet and serene. Everything I needed was provided, and the cottage is immaculate, charming, comfortable, and beautiful. My favorite spot was the front porch, with its view of the majestic oak, the redwoods, and the lush landscaping, and the many birds. Gail has created a real gem here. She is the ideal host -- such a nice person, friendly and available if you need her, but also respectful of privacy. The whole setting was ideal. The location was fantastic; central to everywhere I wanted to go and all my day trips in the area (Cambria, Morro Bay, SLO, Pismo Beach, Shell Beach, Los Olivos, Lake Cachuma, Solvang, Ballard, Buellton, etc.). As well, it was very convenient having the Vons and CVS right down the road, and easy access to everything else. I recommend dinner at Antonio's -- the halibut was wonderful, they make their own bread (delicious) and bleu cheese dressing (delectable), and their baklava is incredible. The only difficult thing was leaving!

We enjoyed a wonderful month of January at Oak Hill Cottage this year. It would be difficult to imagine a more pleasant place to stay. Gail is a delightful and energetic hostess who has created a very neat, convenient and welcoming place for her guests. As others have noted, the setting and landscaping create a cozy and very private enclave which has all the conveniences of home. The cottage is ideally suited to couples who are looking for peace, quiet and privacy. We like golf and good wine, both of which are found in abundance on the Central Coast. The location of the cottage in Nipomo is in the center of the area, with easy access to a wide variety of activities and beautiful, scenic countryside. We give our highest recommendation. We are only sorry that we could not stay longer, and are looking forward to returning again next year.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Oak Hill Cottage. It is located in a lovely neighborhood and there is easy access to the 101 freeway. The cottage is equipped with everything you could possibly need and the grounds are beautiful and peaceful. All the modern conveniences, including a washer and dryer, high speed internet, full size appliances, etc. make this a very comfortable place to stay. Although the weather was chilly and we didn't get to use the front porch, it looked like it would be a wonderful place for morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. Thanks, Gail, for providing a lovely home away from home.

We stayed at the cottage for one month and enjoyed every moment. Oak Hill Cottage is not only adorable, private and well-equipped with everything you may need and then some, but it is in a beautiful part of California. With vineyards, beaches, farmers markets and quaint little towns, we had no problem keeping entertained. Did I mention we live in Wisconsin, so we truly enjoyed the 70 degree weather in November! Gail is a gracious and kind, respecting your privacy, but fun to visit with over the garden gate. I would highly recommend Oak Hill Cottage for a stay. We would love to go back next year.

My husband and I rented Oak Hill Cottage for the entire month of September. Gail was not only a gracious host, she became a dear friend. The cottage was as charming as the pictures! Very private with wonderful established trees and flowering plants, a true escape. The cottage was centrally located and great for traveling up and down the coast. Trilogy Golf Club is just a few miles away for a round of golf or just a wonderful morning walk around the development. It is the perfect place for a quick weekend or extended vacation. We didn't want to leave. Thank you Gail for all the special touches that made our stay memorable. We will never forget it. Dave, Karen & doggie Katie Temecula, CA

Oak Hill Cottage is, hands down, the most private, peaceful and romantic spot we have ever had the privilege of staying in. My fiancee and I were looking to enjoy a few days away from the heat in Southern California for our anniversary, but wanted to be able to bring our little one - our dog, Stella. Gail was very accommodating, welcoming, and was the ideal hostess - she even cut some fresh roses from her garden for us just before we arrived. The property is immaculate, with gorgeously-scented rosemary and lavender bushes that were humming with honeybees during our stay. We enjoyed lazy mornings on the front porch with a cup of coffee and quiet evenings with a glass of wine from one of the many nearby wineries. The kitchen was perfect for us to cook in, stocked with pots and pans and full-size appliances. As for nearby attractions, Jocko's is a must for dinner - only five minutes away, and the steaks are incredible. There are several tasting rooms within a 30 minute drive; Salisbury, Daniel Gehrs and Brander are excellent. Many beaches are dog-friendly, which was a very welcome surprise. We will definitely be back soon, and we've already recommended Oak Hill Cottage to some of our friends and family - thank you again, Gail, for opening this wonderful cottage to us!

A lovely private cottage with good access to hwy 101, and easy driving distances to San Simeon, the beaches, Santa Maria and Arroyo Grande. The kitchen had everything one could need for preparing meals; the bathroom had luxurious linens and toiletries. The owner has gone out of her way to create a wonderful getaway with nicely landscaped grounds. The queen bed is super comfy and cozy, and the entire cottage is meticulously clean. Be sure to notice the star displays at night--this would be a great place to watch meteor showers.

(Slo town, Morro bay and much much more). The cottage has everything you need and more, it's wonderfully spacious, immaculate and homely. Our stay was made so easy! All the previous reviews have covered it! This cottage is truly a home away from home as far as relaxation, quiet, and all the amenities for a comfortable getaway. I love cooking and not eating out so her wonderful kitchen with up to date cookware and new appliances were a joy to use to add to the quiet, non hectic, running around atmosphere. We bought groceries at the TJ's in Arroyo Grande which is only 7 miles up the 101 freeway (even though there are many local grocery stores in town) and went back to enjoy our own wine tasting and wonderful home cooked dinners out on the fabulous porch. Candlelight and comfortable furniture in every room and the porch truly add to the wonderful kick back atmosphere. We enjoyed listening to our music on the dvd player provided and the wireless internet access is excellent. We did venture out to Avila Beach for a walk on the wonderful bike trail that runs along San Luis Obispo Creek. Can't wait to come back when the apples are ready in See Canyon. Yes, Gail's Oak Hill Cottage is really a special place with the wonderful porch and HUGE oak tree. Gail made us feel right at home from the minute we arrived and is a very gracious owner who shows pride in ownership and extends all the comforts of home to her quests in a well kept IMMACULATE cottage. We will definitely be back to enjoy another relaxing getaway. Thanks Gail for you hospitality!

My lady and I have always liked the San Luis Obispo area, but had never experienced Nipomo before. I can say with certainty that the area and the cottage are wonderfully charming. We stayed at Oak Hill Cottage for three days just before New Years. We have friends in Arroyo Grande and had them to the cottage for dinner after doing a wine safari down in Los Olivos, Buellton and Solvang. We also ventured to SLO and Avila Beach so our English Black Lab could frolick on the beach. We all (including Sadie, our dog) had a wondreful time. Gail was very accommadation and responded to all our needs and wishes. The cottage itself was everything it was portrayed to be on the website. Very well appointed with everything you could wish for. We would definitely consider returning for another visit. Thanks Gail.

Our stay during the hectic Thanksgiving holiday was perfect at the Oak Hill Cottage. Comfortable furniture and especially the firm mattress in the bedroom. The porch was sooo....comfy with the outdoor recliners! Immaculately clean and not too cluttered. We had our two small dogs, and we did not worry that they would harm anything. The large fenced yard gave us a sense of safety for them. Also, the property is a good distance from other homes, so it felt very private, yet secure. Very cute cottage decor and special touches from the owner Gail. Thank-you so much!

My wife and I were very pleased with most every aspect of this beautiful cottage. It's location was accessable but secluded. The property owner lives down the hill and we shaed the same drive way, which, if we needed anything made the contact very convenient. The description of the property was fairly complete but doesn't do justice to all the subtle touches, like the fully outfitted kitchen with full size appliances, the two TVs (while small they were certainly adequate, but I would like to have known there was none in the bedroom, the little chocolates placed in different rooms, the excellent taste of the decore, and the beautiful landscaped yard area. It was so nice to have our morning breakfast out on the porch with the peaceful surroundings adding to the ambiance. One of the futons was in need of repair but other than that it was a very superior experience!! I would highly recommend it!

We travel to the area several times a year, and Gail's cottage was a great find for this past weekend. I love cooking brunch on our get-aways, and this kitchen made it easy and fun. The cottage was immaculately clean, and as described and pictured -- in fact the pictures don't really do it justice. The landscaping is grown in a bit, and provides more privacy than these photos suggest. And that oak is just majestic. Also, the huge and beautifully-tiled shower provides an extra touch of luxury. We arrived very late, but Gail was very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed. We will happily recommend Gail's cottage to friends, and hope to return soon.

My husband and I were looking for a place to have a relaxing vacation on the central coast of California. We wanted to escape the heat and traffic of southern California, and we knew that Nipomo is famous for its wonderful weather. This little cottage was just perfect. It is new and has all the conveniences of a home. Everything was provided, from beautiful linens to a place to use our computer. Gail, the owner, took special care to be sure that we had everything that we needed. The grounds are beautiful with flowers and a huge, shady oak tree in the front yard. We also found that the location was great. We were within a few miles of three beach towns and the charming little village of Arroyo Grande. The freeway (101) is easy to access and there is light traffic. We enjoyed dinner in San Luis Obispo, taking walks, hiking by the beach, and just looking through all the cute little shops. If you are looking for a true home away from home, with all the conveniences, that just oozes charm, this is the place for you!
