Location: Fleetwood, Blue Ridge Mountains, North Carolina, USA (Ridgeline cabin at 3200 feet near New River)
Accommodations: Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths (Sleeps 5)
Keywords: Authentic Log Cabin
Built along a mountain crest in beautiful Ashe County at 3200 feet, the New River Hideaway cabin is your gateway to a wonderful mountain vacation in North Carolina's Blue Ridge Mountains. In less than 30 minutes travel time, you can be in either Boone, Blowing Rock or West Jefferson. The home of Appalachian State University, Boone offers the casual atmosphere of a college town and is cozy and eclectic. Walk the downtown area to find antique shops, bead shops, restaurants and coffee shops. The small-town quaintness and majestic views make a visit to Blowing Rock a special treat. Not only can you spend hours perusing dozens of unique shops and boutiques, enjoying the park that’s the centerpiece of Main Street, looking for bargains at the nearby factory outlet mall, but you can also visit the famous Blowing Rock itself. West Jefferson is the best-kept secret in Ashe County with its Mayberry-esque atmosphere and two stoplights. Try the Bohemia coffee shop, the family-friendly Frazier's restaurant, and the Matthew's restaurant. Featuring beautiful artwork by local artists, West Jefferson hosts it’s renowned Art Walk one Friday evening each month. Check out the Farmers Market on Saturday mornings, lush green golf courses, the Ashe County Cheese Factory and of course, Mount Jefferson State Park.
If outdoor adventures are more your style, you don’t have to look far. Enjoy a two-hour trip or make a day of traveling down the historic New River by kayak, canoe or rafting tube. Hike and picnic on well-marked trails, or try horseback riding. Bring your camera, for there’s so much to photograph, from incredible mountain sunsets to tiny wildflowers in the Springtime. In winter, you’ll find snow-skiing and snowboarding opportunities at seven mountain resorts, including Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain.
Your home away from home, New River Hideaway is an authentic log cabin that offers a large, main-level master bedroom with a king-size bed and full bath, which together can be made into a private suite. A second spacious bedroom, with a king-size bed, is located upstairs and adjoins a full bath. Also adjoining the upstairs bath is the loft with three twin beds that overlooks the living room. Additional amenities include a wood fireplace, satellite TV, plenty of closet space, a spacious deck with ridge-line view, kitchen and dining area, and bar seating. Treat yourself to feeling the warmth of the timbers while you enjoy the peace and quiet that only the mountains and a log home can bring.
When you’re ready for downtime, sit back on the deck, high among treetops, and enjoy the mountain ridge view and quiet surroundings. The mountain climate is typically 10 to 15 degrees cooler, and less humid, than the "lowlands," providing the perfect escape from the summer heat. And 3,200 feet altitude is almost completely void of those pesky, flying, summer critters. Take a stroll around the area and discover the paths and trails along the ridge – listen and watch for the wild turkeys and deer!

Why the Owner Chose Fleetwood
I was really looking to build an authentic log cabin in a place that balanced the 'get away' feel of being out in the woods with places to go for dining and activities. Southern Ashe County, 20 minutes from Boone and West Jefferson, was the perfect place. The cabin is right above the New River where you can kayak, hike, fish and bike while close enough for the amenities of the mountain towns. New River Hideaway is only 7 miles away from the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Unique Benefits of this Cabin
You have it all for a mountain vacation at New River Hideaway. A get away opportunity with dining and activities a short drive away. In a weekend, you can visit Boone, West Jefferson and Blowing Rock. We don't have a bunch of other cabins on top of us as you may have in Watauga county locations. Just a quiet mountain. With the ridge line view and spacious deck, you can relax and enjoy the scenery.

My husband and I spent three days at the cabin and found it comfortable, well-appointed, and very clean. Reservations were easy to make and the owner was more than helpful. The beds were fantastic...thick mattresses with quality linens. The kitchen was so well equipped I almost felt guilty for not cooking anything but breakfast. On top of a ridge at the end of a dead-end road, it was very private and quiet. The New River is close by for rafting or floating which is a wonderful family event since the river isn't ever more than knee deep and is extremely safe. We checked out alot of places in the Fleetwood area and I think this is one of the best you will find.
Recommended for:Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers.

This was the perfect romantic getaway to celebrate our 5th anniversary! What a beautiful log cabin with great, rustic touches! It is surrounded by lots of trees, making it feel very secluded; however, we found plenty to do nearby at Riverside (kayaking, horseback riding, haunted hayride)and surrounding towns. We plan to come back over the years with our family, as there is a lot to do and plenty of room here:) Thank you for sharing this treasure!

We were a little spoiled here! The cabin was immaculate and perfect for our girl's getaway. The surroundings were just amazing and so peaceful. Shopping was just a short ride away, as were great restaurants. I'll need to bring husband and kids next time...or not.
