We were looking for an affordable, comfortable getaway for two families for a long weekend and this cabin was perfect. The owner is very cordial and easy to deal with, and the cabin had lots of sleeping options and all the comforts of home. The check-in and check-out procedures couldn't be simpler, and the photos are very accurate. This is not a cabin with the newest electronic gadgets and hi-tech televisions, but if we wanted that we probably wouldn't have been looking for lodging in the Maggie Valley area anyway! The neighborhood is quiet and picturesque, and you could walk to Ghost Town in the Sky if you wanted to do so (although the house is located on a rather steep hill, which might make walking difficult for those with mobility issues). Cataloochee ski area is about a ten-minute drive up the mountain. It's probably only four miles away, but the mountain road up to Cataloochee is steep and winding, and takes time to navigate. We will definitely book this cabin again when we come back to the area - thank you for a lovely getaway!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2005
About the owner: I'm an attorney practicing in Charleston, South Carolina and my husband is a residential contractor. We have an adopted teenage daughter and a miniature Dacshund named 'HEIDI' that the house is named for.
Why the Owner Chose Maggie Valley:
We have vacationed in Maggie Valley since our daughter was about 2 years old. We had a friend who lent us her place there. We later met friends from Charleston with a vacation home there and went up to visit them. We saw lots for sale in the same neighborhood and bought the lot our home is on. My husband built the home himself, with some assistance of course, doing about 70% of the work personally. We also own another lot in Maggie and plan to build another home and eventually retire to Maggie Valley once our daughter is out of high school.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We love the variety of wild animals we see in the neighborhood and with the location of our home, we can walk to restaurants and shops nearby. We are high enough up the mountain to have fantastic views year round but our home is still easily accessible in ice and snow without 4 wheel drive or snow tires. We have 2 tiny streams running down either side of the house and Jonathan Creek is a short walk away (at the entrance to the neighborhood) and is great for wading or trout fishing.
