Just returned from Kailua after spending 10 days with Tim and Lora in their studio apartment. This was our 4th visit to the island in three years. My husband and I agree that this was our best trip to Hawaii! We had never used VRBO before and we are so excited that we had such a positive experience--wonderful vacation. The property "The Essence of Hawaii" is beautiful as reflected by the posted pictures. It was such a quiet, peaceful, private and charming unit. Lora adds so many nice touches in the unit to make you feel welcome. The unit is clean and the linens/bed is very comfortable. We would like to recommend "The Essence of Hawaii" if you are looking for a special place. Thank you (Mahalo)to Tim & Lora for providing such a relaxing atmosphere in paradise!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We stayed at Tim and Lora's beautiful property in early November. They could not have been more accommodating and welcoming. The studio was very nice, and the grounds are amazing. There is so much to see and do on the beautiful Island we have to do it again. :-) Thanks to both of you for a memorable stay! Highly recommendedDid you find this review helpful? We have stayed here twice. This property overall is amazing from the welcoming hosts to the wonderful room and the beautiful Lanai to the resort style backyard, and of course the proximity to the water! We also went kayaking and were able to see the giant sea turtles and flying fish.Truly paradise! Thanks again to our hosts!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/6

Our Island getaway would not have been the same had we missed out on staying at the wonderful retreat of The Essence of Hawaii. Tim and Lora’s place is absolutely remarkable and the best part of this is that they open their house up to total strangers so that we can all get a small glimpse of real Hawaiian style living. The suites are tastefully decorated without the feeling that you are actually attached to the main house. The backyard gives you the feel of a small luxury resort, without the crowds; it’s all yours to enjoy, day and night. The best part of our stay was our hosts, Tim and Lora. They were so inviting in every way imaginable, they are two genuine people who really want to give you the best experience while on your journey. There were many free flowing conversations under the stars, oh yes and much free flowing wine as well. It was great to happen across another couple who hold the same ideologies and views on many different plains. I could go on and on about the house, location, beach, town, etc, etc, but what put the icing on the cake were our hosts. We will most definitely be back!Did you find this review helpful? Reality is so much better than pictures! The Essence of Hawaii property is beautiful and our room was comfortable, well decorated, and better than any hotel room could offer. I would highly recommend staying at the Essence of Hawaii. Lora and Tim were wonderful hosts who gave us great advice on places to see and things to do on Oahu. Thank you for a wonderful vacation!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 4/5

This was the perfect place to decompress following a trip to Thailand. We weren't disappointed! We enjoyed many evenings by the fire listening to the breeze in the palm trees. Mornings on the lanai were spent enjoying the beautifully landscaped yard, watching paddlers in the canal and visiting with our hosts, who were warm, welcoming and helpful in every way. Thanks, Tim & Lora, for sharing the beauty of your home so graciously!!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/5

We spent a most enjoyable 11 days in early November in Oahu, all at the lovely residence of Lora and Tim Thomas. Our son was able to join us for a week of the stay, a little tight in the studio, but not at all a problem. We found everything we needed for a great vacation, including all beach necessities for the beautiful Island beaches. The thing that set this trip apart was the very gracious hospitality of the owners, and their welcome tips and directions. And we did need those! Thanks Lora! :-) Highly recommended. we found this gorgeous waterfront studio as a fill in prior to our principal reservations on another part of the island;it was so perfect we kind of wished we had stayed the whole trip here!Convenient, beautiful grounds and pool, close to town, kayaks right on the sea turtle filled canal 200 yds to Kailua beach. The owners were gracious, super nice and a real pleasure to meet and vacation with. They made us feel like we had been friends for years and helped us with all our plans and ideas. We will stay here on our next trip in 2009; a great deal and a great find, you'll love this one. Rob and Claire HarrisonDid you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/4

My Husband and I stayed here. It was amazing!!! Our hosts were very accommodating and knowledgeable about where to go and what to do on Oahu. This property is awesome!!! The backyard is just like a high end resort, yet very private and all you hear are the waves crashing. The huge Lanai with kitchen connects to the backyard. We ate most our meals outside in the resort like backyard, but you can eat in the beautiful Lanai as well, which looks out to the backyard! Don’t forget to bring your laptop because they have wireless internet. My Husband went kayaking with the owner of this property. They put the Kayak right into the water (the canal) from the backyard…convenient! My husband got to see the giant sea turtles and flying fish. I was happy to sit on the picturesque beach….which was very close walking distance. We have been visiting all the Hawaiian Islands for over 20 years and we had never been to Kailua Beach before. For my husband and I, it is the most beautiful beach we have ever been to….and we live in San Diego…and have been to many beaches around the world. We loved this property so much; we plan on returning to this same location before years end. Thanks again to our hosts The Thomas’Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/5
