Cottage on Historic Gentleman's Farm

Located in the heart of Historic Chester County, few locations in the United States offer so many things to see and do. Some of the loveliest creations of man or nature are nearby ( 1hr.). The cottage is on a 70 acre country estate (circa. 1797) with fields & trails, surrounded by over 2000 acres of private land. Yet, there is gourmet dining, tennis and historic sites within walking or bicycle distance. In the late 1990s, Chester County was listed as one of the top ten counties in which to live, owing to its beauty, historic significance and the general sophistication of its inhabitants. Horse-carriages and hot air balloons are just a few of the common sights. The Cottage is located on a private lane, just off a quiet, picturesque country road that is a favorite of bicyclists, joggers and equestrians. The farm, its history and surroundings were the subject of Edwin A. Peeples’ Walden-like memoir PLANTING AN INHERITANCE; LIFE ON A PENNSYLVANIA FARM (see amazon dot com)

The earlier reviews describe many of the attributes of this cottage and the surrounding area. We want to add that this cottage and farm is a destination on its own - if you love the serenity of the country you will be very happy here. The many trails behind the cottage are beautiful and such fun to explore - please don't miss taking advantage of them! Chris was an accommodating host and we appreciated having use of the bicycles. We planned to stay two nights and loved it so much that we changed our plans to stay every night it was available during our vacation. Having previously lived in the general area, we were delighted that the experience was even better than anticipated. My partner and I spent a wonderful week at Vixen Hill Farm Cottage. The cottage was well-equipped, private, beautiful decorated, and well maintained. The owner and his daughter were super friendly, and very knowledgable on the what to see and do in the area. It was all it was described to be and more. The surroundings were quiet and picturesque, yet we were only a few minutes away from excellent restaurants and shopping. I would highly recommend the Kimberton Inn for dinner, as well as the Station Bistro (BYOB) also in Kimberton. Food and service were spectacular at both places. Vixen Hill Farm is conveniently located close to the train station in Malvern, which I would highly recommend if you intend to go to Philly for the day. Otherwise, the winding country back roads were terrific for exploring all that PA has to offer -- antiques, historic sites, wineries, pubs, restaurants, and beautiful countryside. We will definitely be returning.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We two had a great stay at this lovely farmhouse, surrounded by peaceful farmland and almost no traffic. This is a gracious country place, well suited to two people. I wish we could have stayed more than four days. We visited some area attractions and were always happy to return to this very welcoming place. Chris and Charles are gracious hosts; available but not at all intrusive. The canopy queen bed is on the second floor, kitchen and living room (with fireplace and laundry) on the first floor. Love the screened-in porch, which really makes this place.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had a lovely time at the cottage at Vixen Hill Farm. We moved away from the Chester Springs area 7 years ago, and living in the cottage for a week certainly brought back some very special memories of a truly lovely place. The cottage is peaceful, utterly charming, very comfortable and we will definitely return! As an artist constantly on the lookout for lovely vistas to paint, I didn't have to venture any farther than the front porch! The fireworks and neighborhood party on the fourth of July were an added treat, and the owners made us feel right at home throughout our stay. One of the best kept secrets in the area! SHHHHHHHH!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This is a wonderful place to stay when you visit the Brandywine/Chester County/Philadelphia area. It's private and allows you to enjoy the clean air and country setting, but it's within a 10-15 minute drive of restaurants, malls, and "civilization." It is a 35 minute drive to the Art Museum in Philly. There are two friendly dogs who were a delight to see every day, and the owner is available while still respecting your privacy. I highly recommend this property, and I'm hoping to return again in the fall.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing, families with teenagers, girls getaway.

My husband and I needed to take a break from the burnout of work and everyday stress. This location was a great find! We were able to really relax in our private little house that was truly like a home away from home. Very private and beautifully kept. We loved the three-season patio with the double chaise lounge. Thank you for all your hard work to make your guests feel so welcome!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, pet owners.

My husband and I needed to get away to stop the burnout of everyday work and life. This was a great choice! The location was so beautiful and the house was clean and wonderfully kept and private. Our favorite place was on the porch hanging on the chaise lounge. We will come again. Thank you!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

The property has a rural location, perfect if you want to get away from stress and noise. The area is beautiful. Exton and Phoenixville are the next shopping opportunities and thats about 10 and 5 minutes. Valley Forge 20 minutes. You can make nice walks in the woods or jogging along the small road. The cottage is perfect for two persons , ok for three not suitable for 4 . But that would be your own decision to make! We were 5 (not planned!) and the person in the sunroom was not happy : ) ! Either too hot or too cold. But for 2-3 person-which it is meant for-is perfect. If you experienced a problem, the hosts would try to fix it as soon as possible. Very nice and helpful people, thanks Chris and thanks to your brother for a nice stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, sightseeing.

We arrived after dark, in the sleet and rain, to find the cottage with soft lights on to light our way in, the fireplace was lit and music was playing, quite a warm welcome! The cottage is perfect for two, close to everything - wonderful restaurants (The Station Bistro for one), attractions (Longwood Gardens was about a 25 minute drive) and shopping around Lancaster County. it feels remote, relaxing but is only a few minutes away from the necessities. Even on a chilly January afternoon, we lounged on the chaise on the porch, warmed by the second gas fireplace. The cottage is just what is pictured on the listing, all the amenities are there. The owners were very accommodating and easy to work with. We will definitely be returning!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Beautiful cottage tucked away in Chester County on quiet estate. This was exactly what we wanted. Clean house with incredible sun room (useable and comfortable even in winter). The two dogs on the property added such a charm to the experience. Perfect for a couple for a get away. The Kimberton Whole Foods near by was convenient for getting food, and there were a few decent restaurants as well. The 30 minute drive to Longwood Gardens really gave us a taste of the openness and beauty of Cheater County. I recommend this property to anyone.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
