Location: Other Chianti Area Properties, Chianti Area, Tuscany, Italy, Europe (10 min Radda, 10 min Gaiole, 20 min Siena, 0 min vineyards!)

Accommodations:  Apartment, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths (Sleeps 4-5)

You have arrived in San Sano, a quiet, medieval hamlet, surrounded by vineyards. This completely, lovingly restored 700 year old hamlet of 50 residences is unlike any village found in the Chianti. Here you will enjoy your days like a true Italian and spend evenings in complete silence. You will awake to the songs of local birds and enjoy the views of vineyards and olive orchards as you savor your espresso from the private balcony.

This lovely first floor apartment is located in the heart of the village, with views from every window across the hamlet to the vine clad hillsides beyond.

The entrance via a flight of steps up to the balcony opens directly into the open plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The lounge area has two comfortable sofas arranged in front of the featured open stone fireplace. The well equipped kitchen section runs along the far wall of the room. There is also a traditional wooden dining table with six chairs. The two large windows open to the garden below and the vineyards on the opposite hills.

A corridor to the right of the kitchen takes you through to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The first bedroom is on the left and has a wrought iron double bed, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and a flat screen TV. A large window opens up to the garden below and the vineyards on the opposite hills. Opposite the bedroom on the right of the corridor is a bathroom with double shower, basin and toilet.

The second bedroom is down the corridor and also has a double bed with wardrobe, chest of drawers and flat screen TV. A large window opens up to the garden below and the vineyards on the opposite hills. The bathroom has a full size hydro jacuzzi massage bath, wash basin, toilet and bidet. The vineyard is seen from this bathroom window.

The approximately 2 feet thick original stone walls ensure privacy and quiet nights throughout your stay. The shared pool is open early May through September. One of the nicest restaurants in the Chianti is located just steps from the front door across the small street. Because the road to San Sano ends in the village, there is very limited auto traffic and noise as San Sano is a destination, not a drive through village. You will be amazed how San Sano feels "remote", but is just 10 minutes from Radda, Gaiole, and 20 minutes to Siena, shopping, train stations, museums, and of course, the Palio.

The local hillsides are filled with vineyards, olive orchards, and small villages sporting wonderful Tuscan dishes and collectibles. Ceramics and hand made pottery shops can be found everywhere. You can site see, wine taste, relax, dine and sleep in peace. When you find San Sano, you have found "la docle vita".

    • First of all, the property manager Annie is a jewel. She was very accommodating and friendly. We got along well. She was always there when we needed her. The apartment is perfect. It has views of the hillside vineyards and the chapel bell tower. All were photographed many times! We did not need a huge "terrace" as we had the windows open to the breezes and sunshine. That created our second floor "terrace". The small terrace out the front door gave us a perfect chance to have morning coffee and watch the town awake each day. San Sano was praised by my sisters as they came by to visit. It was truly a real find. We all agreed that we could live there. The bedding was wonderful! It was not the usual Italian fabrics but nice duvets and even brand new "shabby chic" linens! Thanks for the new white towels too! I did not mind doing our own laundry. It was so easy in that fabulous washing machine! I bought two drying clothes racks upon returning home. I am hooked on drying clothes outside! We truly enjoyed our stay in your apartment. The swimming pool is the best! The water feels like "evian" bottle water. We made dear friends in the town...Liz the gardner, Ramo and David and of course Gemal who is a character but totally suited to his profession. The apartment was very clean upon arrival. The flat screen TV was left in the same corner however on an angle for better viewing. We loved the CD system too. Montevarchi was so fun. We found and loved the large Co-op store. We knew then that we could live in San Sano if that store was so close!

Thanks for your kind words. And now you can see why I fell in love with San Sano! I am glad you did too.

    • Beautiful apartment nestled in a quaint little town. This was the perfect place to rest up after a long day of exploring neighboring towns. Finding a place online is sometimes nerve-racking especially when traveling to another country. This was everything promised. This place has all the luxuries of home including a well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and enjoyable sitting area. The Jacuzzi tub was a fabulous way to unwind and relax before slipping into bed for one of the best night’s sleep I had. This is definitely a place I would love to rent again on my next trip. Having a place so beautifully furnished allowed us also to prepare breakfast and dinners, which for us helped us in keeping our travel costs down. Everything was so incredible we didn’t want to leave.

      Homeowner Response:
Thanks Danielle - I am glad you were able to experience what I do all the time when I am home there in Tuscany. Hope you are able to make it back again!

    • Conveniently situated in the Tuscany/Chianti region of Italy, this recently renovated field-stone clad apartment is the perfect location to set off exploring the picture perfect vineyards & wineries, the castles & ancient ruins, that are so fascinating to us in the United States. The tiny hamlet of San Sabo is approximately a 3 hour drive from Rome. The 1,000 sq. ft. apartment features 2 bedrooms (the king sized beds are wonderful) 2 bath (one with a garden style Jacuzzi tub) and a “great room” with soaring ceilings, a queen sized sleeper sofa, and a fully equipped kitchen and washing machine. We were thrilled with having a small restaurant/grocery just steps from our door, so that we could savor the fresh bread, cheeses, wines, and gourmet meals that were available to us. Renting a car, driving the back roads of this truly spectacular part of Italy, sampling the foods and wines of tiny, out of the way vineyards, and perusing small treasures at the weekly markets in the area was a dream come true for my husband and me. I highly recommend coming to the area “off season”, as we did (early spring). There are no crowds at the many tourist attractions, the weather is more bearable and the trees and fields are bursting forth with early color! One of our favorite towns was Radda in Chianti. The restaurants were good, the weekly markets had every sort of seasonal vegetables, fruits, and meats. The main concern of most Americans is how expensive is it to travel in Italy. We found by staying in the apartment and eating breakfast and dinner there, we could find many well priced restaurants for lunch, during our excursions. The highlights of our recent trip there included watching incredible purple/pink/golden sunsets from the apartment, meeting knowledgeable wine purveyors in the many vineyards and “enotecas”, and discovering the fabulous Estruscan ruins and museums in Volterra. Would we go this route again, in renting an apartment & car? Absolutely!!

      Homeowner Response:
I am so glad to hear about my guests wonderful experiences in Italy. I am happy you so enjoyed the apartment. While the pictures are nice, I don't think they capture the beauty, peacefulness, and serenity of our loverly home. I am glad you had a wonderful time and look forward to you and your guests again. Thank you for leaving some of your tourist material and how clean it was when you left.
