Keywords:  Scenic, Tuscany, Villa, Borgo, http://www.facebook.com/stayinchianti

You have arrived in San Sano, a quiet, medieval hamlet, surrounded by vineyards. This completely, lovingly restored 700 year old hamlet of approximately 50 residences is unlike any village found in the Chianti. Here you will enjoy your days like a true Italian and spend evenings in complete silence. You will awake to the songs of local birds and enjoy the views of vineyards and olive orchards as you savor your espresso from the private balcony.

This lovely first floor apartment is located in the heart of the village, with views from every window across the hamlet to the vine clad hillsides beyond.

The entrance, via a flight of steps up to the balcony, opens directly into the open plan lounge/kitchen/diner. The lounge area has two comfortable sofas arranged in front of the featured open stone fireplace. The well equipped kitchen section runs along the far wall of the room. There is also a traditional wooden dining table with six chairs. The two large windows open to the garden below and the vineyards on the opposite hills.

A corridor to the right of the kitchen takes you through to the bedrooms and bathrooms. The first bedroom is on the left and has a wrought iron double bed, a wardrobe, chest of drawers and a flat screen TV. A large window opens up to the garden below and the vineyards on the opposite hills. Opposite the bedroom on the right of the corridor is a bathroom with double shower, basin and toilet.

The second bedroom is down the corridor and also has a double bed with wardrobe, chest of drawers and flat screen TV. A large window opens up to the garden below and the vineyards on the opposite hills. The bathroom has a full size hydro jacuzzi massage bath, wash basin, toilet and bidet. The vineyard is seen from this bathroom window.

The approximately 2 feet thick original stone walls ensure privacy and quiet nights throughout your stay. The shared pool is open early May through September. One of the nicest restaurants in the Chianti is located just steps from the front door across the small street. Because the road to San Sano ends in the village, there is very limited auto traffic and noise as San Sano is a destination, not a drive through village. You will be amazed how San Sano feels "remote", but is just 10 minutes from Radda, Gaiole, and 20 minutes to Siena, shopping, train stations, museums, and of course, the Palio.

The local hillsides are filled with vineyards, olive orchards, and small villages sporting wonderful Tuscan dishes and collectibles. Ceramics and hand made pottery shops can be found everywhere. You can site see, wine taste, relax, dine and sleep in peace. When you find San Sano, you have found "la docle vita".

To help in your choice of accommodations, we have left our pricing at 2009 price levels. For those booking with us, we also offer advice on transportation, airport arrival options, itinerary planning, rental car locations, directions, and points of interest. Why the Owner Chose San Sano

The village of San Sano, in the heart of the Chianti in Tuscany is one of the most beautiful villages I had ever seen. It was the location for the film, Stealing Beauty. The village, just 20 minute drive from Siena, sits atop a hill, surrounded by vineyards and olive trees. The little village, population 60, consists of building built from the 14th thru 16th century, but all lovingly restored. It is quiet, safe, remote, yet convenient. Visitors to the village have often asked me "Is this a private resort?". Imagine - an entire village that seems like a resort, all at your doorstep. Our property has its own small vineyard surrounding the gardens with the pool set on the edge. It is an amazing place.

The Unique Benefits at this Apartment

First and foremost is the peace and quiet. There are few places left on earth accessible where you will find absolute quiet. It is so convenient to all Tuscany has to offer, but because it sits atop a small hill, off the beaten path, you will find it to be safe, charming and quiet. Although the buildings are over 600 years old, they have been lovingly restored with all the features that make your visit comfortable and enjoyable. The luxury queen beds, feather pillows and jacuzzi bath will ensure a restful nights sleep after a day of touring.

So close to so many of Italy's treasures

Our stay at Casa del Vignaiolo in August 2011 was amazing. The home is lovely and fitted with everything you need. The beds have to be among the most comfortable in Italy with great linens. Right across the way is a charming restaurant that brings visitors from Siena for the great food. The area is quiet and relaxing. Most important, you are so close to so many of Italy's treasures. We highly recommend this home and hope to return again soon. Margaret USA

A fabulous experience

We had a wonderful experience staying at your apartment in the village of San Sano. The apartment itself is spacious, comfortable and clean. The kitchen is well equipped and the appliances are new and easy to use. Your choice of linens was impressive as well. We also enjoyed your books about the Tuscany area and used them for creating our itineraries and looking up restaurants and wineries in the area. This was a bonus, as we only had one tour book and it was lacking in comparison. All the people we met and came in contact with in San Sano were pleasant and very accommodating. Having the family run Trattoria across the street was so convenient and appreciated. We found the food to be excellent the family staff friendly, informative and helpful. We enjoyed it so much we ate there 3 out of 5 nights during our stay. The surrounding country side was ideal for walking and had my husband pining for his road bike, as the cycling would have been incredible. The vista took our breath away....vineyards as far as the eyes could see. The days we spent in San Sano were enjoyed by all. After our days of sight seeing we really appreciated the restaurant across from your villa, great meals, very friendly. Our stay in San Sano, in your apartment was a fabulous experience and we all look forward to when we can return again

We (two couples) spent 2 weeks here at the end of October 2011. The apartment was delightful and equipped with everything we needed. Since you need to drive to all the towns, villages and wineries, I would suggest before you arrive, to plan out in detail your daily itinerary and obtain a very detailed map, since there is so much to see in Chianti. Much of the region is somewhat remote and difficult to navigate if you are not familiar with the terrain. Also suggest you get a GPS to assist. In the apt. the beds were very comfortable and the washer was easy to use. We enjoyed being able to eat in the apartment if we wanted a break from eating in the local restaurants. It was beautiful weather during the period we were there and although it was too cool to swim, we did spend some lazy afternoons lounging at the pool next to the vineyard. The village itself was very peaceful (couple of hundred residents) and centrally located for our travels to the neighboring towns. It was also very relaxing just walking around the town, taking in the beautiful scenery and observing a very different lifestyle. If you are looking for a vacation with a perfect setting, San Sano will work for you.

Comfortable apartment in a charming village

Guest: Kim (Denver, CO)
Date of Stay: 10/01/11 Review Submitted: 11/04/11

We spent 6 fabulous nights here in the beginning of October 2011. The apartment was appointed beautifully and equipped with everything we needed, including a book of information on the surrounding area listing recommended restaurants, markets, butcher shops, wine tasting, castle tours, etc. The beds were very comfortable and the washer was easy to use. We enjoyed the ability to eat breakfast in the dining area every morning and cook a couple dinners as well. A cheese grater would have been welcome, though. The covered parking was nice and the pool area was quiet with nice comfortable lounge chairs. The only downside to the accommodations was the small balcony - could only fit two out of four of us there at once comfortably. The village itself was quiet and charming. The location of the apartment across from the restaurant and market was ideal and the restaurant had fabulous food (best bruschetta we've ever had) and service. It was also a short drive to Siena and much of the Chianti countryside. If you are looking for a comfortable, relaxing setting, San Sano and this apartment are it! We highly recommend it.

Dont expect any customer service at this apartment without paying extra

Guest: Brian S.
Date of Stay: 09/17/11 Review Submitted: 10/28/11

The apartment is as described-spacious, bright and well laid out with fantastic views and a great pool area which is shared with approx 8 other apartments in the complex. So why a 2 star rating? Firstly, the apartment is poorly equipped-no oven gloves, dishwashing rack, laundry soap, sponges, wax paper/paper towels/ aluminum foil or toaster, coffee maker takes ½ hr to make a pot, no English TV, 2 lights burned out, no explanation of oven settings, the bbq is small, rusty, and on a tiny balcony with 2 small old rickety chairs and table. When we turned on the oven and the washing machine at the same time the power went out (no warning about this anywhere) The restaurant across the street can be noisy until midnight so the door facing it often needed to be shut in 80°+ temps. The apt info said that the property manager would come by to explain things after we checked in but when no one showed up, we went to their office and asked for a visit to clear up some things. A local resident (not the PM) came by and spent 10 minutes explaining things and we told her about the problems above (nothing was ever corrected) and for this we were charged €35 on our deposit. The owner said it was a self check-in so we were charged for a call out. So if something is wrong or info is missing, I have to pay for it? Ridiculous! All the other apartments in the complex have nice outside sitting areas (some of which are right below this apartment’s windows so it can get noisy at night) but this one has a tiny balcony overlooking the noisy restaurant. The contract said Internet wasn’t available in the apt but the listing says: “WiFi (Wireless Internet) : WiFi is available at several locations near by. Check with the property management firm for FREE wi fi access at their local office about 10 mins from the apartment.” When I questioned the owner about being charged €20 for internet access by the PM company, he quoted the contract saying no internet in the apartment-OK I knew that, so why put in the VRBO write up that internet is free at the PM company’s office? It isn’t. The wireless doesn’t even work well inside-we had to go out to get a good signal. The PM company told the owner that they had responded to our complaints but they didn’t. The owner chose to take the PM company‘s word instead of ours and in the end we ended up paying €75 for services and basic supplies that should be included . We wont be back due to our customer service experience at this property.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in San Sano.

Guest: Lizzy333 (Maryland)
Date of Stay: 10/09/10 Review Submitted: 10/25/10

The apartment is exceptionally clean and well furnished. There are expensive sheets and towels and plenty of equipment in the kitchen to make cooking fun. No wi fi, but for those of us who want to get away from the internet, that is an advantage. The tiny town of San Sano is a delight and we especially loved the slightly bigger tiny town of Lecchi close by. Taking day trips from San Sano everyday is a delight. A rental car is a must. The swimming pool is HUGE but it was a little too cold in October to swim.

Owner response:Thank you so much for your review. I am happy you had a wonderful time. It is a pleasure to share our little piece of heaven with you on your vacation. We hope to see you again soon !

Beautiful - Iconic - Spectacular

Set high in the Tuscan mountains is the beautiful village of San Sano. 4 of us enjoyed two weeks of bliss at the centre of a spectacular landscape. We particularly enjoyed the opportunity presented to take long rambling walks through to vineyards in the early morning. The apartment was fitted out to a very high standard and San Sano is just a short drive from all the iconic sites that Tuscany has to offer.

First of all, the property manager Annie is a jewel. She was very accommodating and friendly. We got along well. She was always there when we needed her. The apartment is perfect. It has views of the hillside vineyards and the chapel bell tower. All were photographed many times! We did not need a huge "terrace" as we had the windows open to the breezes and sunshine. That created our second floor "terrace". The small terrace out the front door gave us a perfect chance to have morning coffee and watch the town awake each day. San Sano was praised by my sisters as they came by to visit. It was truly a real find. We all agreed that we could live there. The bedding was wonderful! It was not the usual Italian fabrics but nice duvets and even brand new "shabby chic" linens! Thanks for the new white towels too! I did not mind doing our own laundry. It was so easy in that fabulous washing machine! I bought two drying clothes racks upon returning home. I am hooked on drying clothes outside! We truly enjoyed our stay in your apartment. The swimming pool is the best! The water feels like "evian" bottle water. We made dear friends in the town...Liz the gardner, Ramo and David and of course Gemal who is a character but totally suited to his profession. The apartment was very clean upon arrival. The flat screen TV was left in the same corner however on an angle for better viewing. We loved the CD system too. Montevarchi was so fun. We found and loved the large Co-op store. We knew then that we could live in San Sano if that store was so close!

Owner response:Thanks for your kind words. And now you can see why I fell in love with San Sano! I am glad you did too.

Beautiful apartment nestled in a quaint little town. This was the perfect place to rest up after a long day of exploring neighboring towns. Finding a place online is sometimes nerve-racking especially when traveling to another country. This was everything promised. This place has all the luxuries of home including a well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and enjoyable sitting area. The Jacuzzi tub was a fabulous way to unwind and relax before slipping into bed for one of the best night’s sleep I had. This is definitely a place I would love to rent again on my next trip. Having a place so beautifully furnished allowed us also to prepare breakfast and dinners, which for us helped us in keeping our travel costs down. Everything was so incredible we didn’t want to leave.

Owner response:Thanks Danielle - I am glad you were able to experience what I do all the time when I am home there in Tuscany. Hope you are able to make it back again!

Conveniently situated in the Tuscany/Chianti region of Italy, this recently renovated field-stone clad apartment is the perfect location to set off exploring the picture perfect vineyards & wineries, the castles & ancient ruins, that are so fascinating to us in the United States. The tiny hamlet of San Sabo is approximately a 3 hour drive from Rome. The 1,000 sq. ft. apartment features 2 bedrooms (the king sized beds are wonderful) 2 bath (one with a garden style Jacuzzi tub) and a “great room” with soaring ceilings, a queen sized sleeper sofa, and a fully equipped kitchen and washing machine. We were thrilled with having a small restaurant/grocery just steps from our door, so that we could savor the fresh bread, cheeses, wines, and gourmet meals that were available to us.Renting a car, driving the back roads of this truly spectacular part of Italy, sampling the foods and wines of tiny, out of the way vineyards, and perusing small treasures at the weekly markets in the area was a dream come true for my husband and me.I highly recommend coming to the area “off season”, as we did (early spring). There are no crowds at the many tourist attractions, the weather is more bearable and the trees and fields are bursting forth with early color! One of our favorite towns was Radda in Chianti. The restaurants were good, the weekly markets had every sort of seasonal vegetables, fruits, and meats. The main concern of most Americans is how expensive is it to travel in Italy. We found by staying in the apartment and eating breakfast and dinner there, we could find many well priced restaurants for lunch, during our excursions. The highlights of our recent trip there included watching incredible purple/pink/golden sunsets from the apartment, meeting knowledgeable wine purveyors in the many vineyards and “enotecas”, and discovering the fabulous Estruscan ruins and museums in Volterra. Would we go this route again, in renting an apartment & car? Absolutely!!

Owner response:I am so glad to hear about my guests wonderful experiences in Italy. I am happy you so enjoyed the apartment. While the pictures are nice, I don't think they capture the beauty, peacefulness, and serenity of our loverly home. I am glad you had a wonderful time and look forward to you and your guests again. Thank you for leaving some of your tourist material and how clean it was when you left.
