- Minimum stay:2-7 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:No
You can't be more surrounded by tranquil beauty than from this beachfront, beach-level condo on Half Moon Bay in Akumal. Akumal is a quiet, very private, residential community of low-rise condos and private villas generously spaced out along the beach, with many fine restaurants and world renowned walk-off-the-beach snorkeling and diving. Local condo management is onsite to assure continued quality throughout your stay.
Here, just an hour’s drive straight south on a well paved road from Cancun, you escape the hustle and bustle, kick off your shoes, don your swim suit, and plunge into the turquoise Caribbean Sea. The atmosphere is very relaxed. Walk bare-footed in T shirt and shorts to a beachfront restaurant for fabulous fajitas and a margarita if you like. All the local restaurants in Akumal treat their water making the dining completely safe as well as delicious.
The condo, situated on a white sandy beach, has gorgeous water views and is private because of beautiful tropical landscaping surrounding the patio. Inside, our newly renovated and decorated condo the rooms are light and airy, brightly color coordinated with Mexican Caribbean charm. There are open views of the water from the living room, dining room, kitchen, and Master bedroom suite. The unit has an open floor plan with a step down living room opening onto a beach level patio large enough for dining or relaxing in a Mayan hammock.
Both ceiling fans and air conditioning are available for your comfort. Most of the time the gentle breezes make air conditioning unnecessary. We now have 2 TVs with DVD players, and a lending library of DVDs in our accommodating guest office. Effective July 09 we will have satellite TV service. Your US cell phone should work from this locale, and you can access e-mail and the Internet through our high speed wireless and Ethernet connection. An iPod speaker deck allows you to enjoy high fidelity sound from your own iPod. Access to an ATM in town is available. Rental of bicycles and golf carts along with frequent mini buses plying the highway connecting Akumal to the other coastal communities make renting a car optional during your stay.
Akumal has two mini-supermarkets, with a good selection of American products. A small market suitable for last minute items, is just a minute’s walk from the condo. Several large American-style supermarkets are nearby in Playa del Carmen. Laundry service is available in Akumal as are local cooks to prepare regional cuisine right in your kitchen. Ask at the front desk. The Maya Riveria is replete with gorgeous natural attractions centered around water. Akumal has two dive shops and excellent snorkeling and swimming are right out the door in Half Moon Bay, in Akumal Bay, or in Yal-ku Lagoon. Numerous cenotes and beaches all within 12 miles of Akumal include Tankah, Aktun Chen Caves, Xpu-Ha, Paradise and Dos Ojos. Xel-Ha (10 miles away) is a wonderful snorkeling park and Xcaret (18 miles) combines water sports, snorkeling, Mayan culture, and history. Both have swim with the dolphins programs. Other area sports include deep sea fishing, beach horseback riding, golf, and tennis. The Sian Ka'an Biosphere, a beautiful reserve with wildlife and miles of deserted beaches is south of Akumal and Tulum..
There are numerous Mayan Ruins nearby including Tulum, only 15 miles away, Coba (25 miles), and Chitzen Itza, a long day's trip via the new Tulum road. There are many shopping options, including charming shops in Akumal, shops near Akumal at the Hacienda, in Puerta Aventuras, and extensive options in Playa del Carmen (22 miles). Playa is a large town with great shopping, great restaurants, and night life. From here board a boat for an all day trip to Cozumel, another great spot for diving, snorkeling, and deep sea fishing. Playacar (21 miles away) is a Resort development with an 18 hole golf course, tennis and swimming. Puerto Aventuras (ten miles away) offers tennis, golf, swim with the dolphins, and restaurants.

The family had a great week -first time back in Akumal for wife and I in 16 years - half moon bat top both for fish and turtle snorkling - you can start with pros at marine centre next bay over. Ground floor unit abuts propert to north with zero lot line but set forward for covered balcony privacy. Kitchen we'll equipped and practical - all mod cons as they say. Bedrooms perfect for small family. Big king in master - private and pretty bathrooms attached - excellent living room with French doors onto beach. Condo part of 8-unit condo hotel with management office, very useful and some good massage and other extra-curricular services /advice Need a water shoe swimming strategy but stunning beach front. Solid vacation dollar value. Thanks Kassie, Robert and manger Carlos.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We spent Thanksgiving 2012 at this condo with our 2 kids (11 and 13). This condo was the perfect amount of space for our family and provided a convenient and quiet spot to enjoy the Yukatan. The condo is just as advertised and we really enjoyed the ground floor location. We ate breakfast on the back patio enjoying the view every morning. The cleaning service and staff assistance was excellent and Kassie and Rob were very helpful in answering all of our many questions! We spent most of our time snorkeling right off the beach and in nearby Akumal Bay and Yal Ku lagoon. We also took the kids on their first diving trip with Akumal Dive Shop - they were great with the kids. We were happy that we rented a car so we could get around to Tulum and some other areas. We also drove into Akumal a couple of times. However, if you plan to stay in Akumal the entire time and enjoy a bit of walking, you could go without. We found the location to be very convenient to everything we wanted to do. We would definitely recommend this property.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

The condo was great but the location was exceptional. Beach level and a beautiful beach at that. Everything we needed was available in the condo. The only thing I would change is the location of the TV. Can't easily watch it from the comfortable couches. Plenty of good restaurants in the village and a small store for incidentals just up the street. We would definitely return.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Just wanted to say thank you again for sharing your beautiful spot on half moon bay! We had a wonderful time swimming with the turtles every day! The playa paradise staff were terrific, and your suite is lovely. Privacy and relaxation on a wonderful beach. Lots to do within walking distance when you want. Just what the doctor ordered! We will certainly be in touch to visit again! Cheers Ashley and JeffRecommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My husband and I were there Aug 17-20,2010. We got to experience the turtles laying eggs up and down the beach at night, and it was a trip watching others stroll the beach with their little red-filtered flashlights, marking nests with little flags. Akumal itself was wonderful, and we didn't want to leave. We didn't cook while we were there. There's a great little restaurant called La Lunita four condos up that is open 7 days a week, even for breakfast! Wondeful ham and cheese omelets and gourmet dinners. But don't miss Lol Ha on Akumal Bay while you're there. I will say the directions to get there were confusing. We were looking for a couple of huge all-inclusives called something like Copacabana and Robinson Tulum. We never saw the first indication that these two existed, so we ended up nearly at Tulum before we realized we had missed the turn. Look for Bahia Principe big stone wall and then look for the Akumal Playa RETORNO to take a left turn into the village. Just past the police station, you will see the Super Chomax grocery. Don't expect it to look like an American store. There's just a little blue sign, and directly across the street from it is the Publocito store. Go through the arches and bear left.....slowly. La Bahia is quite a ways down this little road, but it IS there. You'll love it. My husband's Verizon email worked fine in the condo, and there will also be an office number for emergency communication. We will definitely go back to Akumal. And we loved the ground floor, directly on the beach location. Enjoy!Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway.

Dear Robert and Kassie, It was perfect! Sanibel is beautiful and your condo was a home away from home -- it left nothing wanting. It surpassed my expectations set by the online photos. Due to flight delays, we arrived very late Saturday -- it was 2:00 a.m., should I say Sunday -- and we were all eager to get to bed. Just as we pulled into the parking spot, a security guard for the complex drives up in a golf cart and helps us carry in our luggage. Grandma was very impressed and we all very much appreciated the help. We had many family meals around your wonderful kitchen table, which easily accommodated the 6 adults, my son Liam, whose 7, and my nephew Sebastian, 11 months old. Although it was a little on the cool side -- we always had lunch on the lanai. The sun was shining, the view was wonderful and the family was all together -- what more can you ask for. We went for long walks on the beach, played soccer and volleyball and relaxed by the pool. Everyday was memorable . . . except the one where I turned 45, I wish I could forget that part but the family wouldn't let me . . . the candles would have sufficed, but they just had to get a card!Did you find this review helpful? The condo was exactly like the photos and was a terrific home for us during our Winter Break (February 13, 2010). We are a family of four with two young children ages 7 and 4. Both boys loved their bedroom and loved stepping right off the patio onto the beach. The area was quiet and peaceful, yet close enough to restaurants and water activites. Our family had a wonderful vacation and would return to this condo again. The front desk was also very friendly and helpful!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

Stayed first week of November, 2009. Family of four w/ children 10 & 11. Fabulous week! Got up early to watch sunrise over the ocean every day. Snorkeled right off beach most days. Visited Tulum ruins, Yal Kul lagoon twice, local towns. Cooked in breakfast & lunch, went out most dinners. La Cueva highly recommended. Would definitely come again. Owner and staff were both highly accommodating.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
