Why the Owner Chose Wellfleet
Oh, My Goodness. Anyone who knows Wellfleet knows the answer to this, but for those just coming to Wellfleet for the first time, it is a lovely town, with art galleries, fine dining for adults and excellent casual choices for families who come right from the beach. The Library is a wonderful place to go when it's raining and has programs for kids and a full schedule of lectures for adults.
The Unique Benefits at this Home
Our house has a location which is extraordinary. It sits on a low bluff, overlooking Cape Cod Bay, Wellfleet Inner and Outer Harbors, Indian Neck, Great Island and Lieutenant's Island, so sunsets are not to be missed. We face due West and cocktails on the deck at sunset are our favorite time. We can swim, sail and kayak right in front of our house, but if you like fresh water, the Wellfleet Ponds are gorgeous. They are really lakes, and some, five minutes from the house, are large lakes. And there's the ocean, the National Seashore, the Audobon Society, the Theater known as W.H.A.T. We love the local fish and shellfish, and being with family who rent other houses within a minute or two of us.
A great kayaking area. Boats usually don't get in because it is very shallow. From there, go north through the old railroad bridge, and keep paddling. Good for beginners.
Bring the family, get a lobster roll at the local clam shack, lick your ice cream cone as you look at the stars. Wonderful!
Wellfleet is full of pleasure boats. From the house you'll see kayakers, sailors, and a few fishing boats (and maybe they are catching your dinner.) It's a painting that moves.
Cape Cod Bay is tidal, so there is plenty of time for swimming or exploring the shoreline. Our house has buckets and shovels for kids to carry their treasures.
The way it used to be! Local places make floats, you'll see your neighbor hauling kids in a wagon, and it's low-key and friendly.
Owner's Map of Wellfleet
We fell in love with this house as renters, and found ourselves the owners in 1998. We love to use the house ourselves and have been able to place works of art in it from many of the places we've travelled. We don't let it get cluttered because we want others to feel that it is their home during their stay so we made it comfortable for families with kids, and relaxing and casually elegant for adults.
