From the Bay side of the house you can see all the way beyond Lieutenant's Island, Great Island, and at night see the lights of Boston in the far distance. Our house is furnished for comfortable living and is suitable for families and couples. The Master Bedroom, on the top floor, has a deck in front and to the side. In the winter enjoy a Wood Fire in the Master Bedroom and see the extraordinary Cape Light from the many windows. The house has artwork and a homey feeling which enhances your time 'away from it all'. It is fully heated and fully air-conditioned so you can savor the delights of the Cape in the summer and in the winter months.
We encourage small family groups of six or less, and provide baby equipment if it is needed. For the active visitors, there is a beach in front of the house, merely walk down our two-second path and you'll be there. Turn to the right and walk 15 minutes over a footbridge to the center of Wellfleet. For those who prefer lake swimming, the famous kettle ponds of Wellfleet are a real joy. You can even rent kayaks on Gull Pond, paddle to a sluiceway and end up in Higgins Pond which you'll have pretty much to yourself for swimming or paddling. It is possible to find the gap in the rushes to kayak into quiet Williams Pond from Higgins. Total delight.
Perfect for a couple as a Get-Away Romantic spot.
Perfect for a family with teens, or younger children.
Mature couples will find the house suits their wish for comfort, cleanliness and ease of living.

We needed a relaxing late fall break from our hectic schedules. Over the past three or four years, Cape Cod has become our breakaway destination. We've tried many houses in many Cape Cod locations but we think we've found the perfect one. It's called "Fairwinds" and is located in Wellfleet on a beach beside the harbor. I love cruise ships and "Fairwinds" reminds me of an elegant yacht. Of course, it's much more spacious than a yacht but entering the house one has the feeling of being on a ship. There's lots of open space and light fills the house from the many windows. There are several decks from which to watch activity in the harbor: fishing boats, kayaks, sailboats, clam diggers, soaring gulls, lapping waves. But, unlike most yachts, "Fairwinds" also boasts two wood-burning fireplaces. The house has a comfortable living-dining room and a kitchen equipped with all the amenities, as well as two bathrooms and two large and one small bedroom. There's even a beautifully planted garden overlooking the harbor with a birdbath and a birdfeeder. Although many of the restaurants in and around Wellfleet are closed or have limited hours at this time of year, we found enough open to keep us happy - the unpretentious Bookstore and Restaurant and the homey Lighthouse as well as the superlative PL Boulangerie, all closeby. PB Boulangerie is located a ten minute drive from "Fairwinds" and was so good that we dined there four times in ten nights, including Thanksgiving dinner. When not enjoying the house, we spent our time doing many of our favorite Cape Cod things: strolling Provincetown, gallery looking in Chatham, antique hunting in Yarmouth. We also managed to fit in some of our favorite nature walks: Pilgrim Spring Trail, Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and the walks at the Cape Cod National Seashore Salt Pond Center. Best of all was returning "home" to "Fairwinds" at the end of each day to a glass of wine and the glorious lingering sunsets from one of the decks.Did you find this review helpful? My wife Alida and I have stayed at this extraordinary home for five years. As a previous Wellfleet resident who currently lives in Brooklyn, I cherish this town most in the off season - when tranquility and the raw, simple beauty of the landscape/seascape are unforgettable. For this reason all of our returns to ‘Fairwinds’ have been in April and March. The home itself is ideally situated on a bluff that hovers high above Wellfleet harbor, providing outstanding views of journeying fishing boats, oyster diggers, Jeremy’s Point, Great Island and Wellfleet Bay. Sunsets from this vantage point are tremendous. The many, many windows of the house insure picturesque views from inside at all times, and watching the weather and atmosphere change over the water is an intrinsic and mystical part of an off-season retreat here. When you are ready to head outdoors, throw on a sweater or light jacket and head down to the beach - just a few steps from the back deck. Take a right at the water and walk through the marsh and woods of Duck Creek to town center taking Uncle Tim’s bridge. Go left and circle around the Cove beach to Indian Neck point. Modern, spacious & bright, the house is creatively decorated and decidedly uplifting. This place does not feel like a summer rental inside, which is important in the chillier months: it is comfortable, warm and inviting. All the amenities are at hand, including great cookware, a serious Weber grill, washing machine & dryer, dishwasher, sound & video system and copious amounts of household ‘stuff’ like paper towels, aluminum foil, etc., etc.. Basically, all you need to bring are your clothes, towels and sheets – everything else is there, including a hand-compiled notebook of instructions and recommendations. Although the town is pretty quiet in March and April there are a handful of good restaurants open as well as Wellfleet Market. We enjoy picking up some lunch from town and heading over to eat at the ocean or bay, sometimes from Wellfleet points, sometimes from Truro points. Walks on the beach are great this time of year and often you will have the sand all to yourself. Last visit we lucked out and followed a family of whales jumping around in the water off of Mayo Beach. You will want to return to this house again and again for sure. In addition, the owners Toni & David are wonderful to deal with and fully committed to making their visitors feel at home.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved our time at your house and I really enjoyed speaking with your husband when we arrived. Other than the location and views, which were stunning, we loved the uniqueness of your house, the contemporary design, its openness, the artwork and your generosity on what you supplied the house with! Cooking with gourmet pots, plenty of wooden utensils, saran wrap and aluminum foil, paper towels -- all these items that the homes we've rented before never came stocked with -- was such a delight to find. The written instructions and notebook you compiled were also really helpful. All these things made a deep impression on us and we can not wait to come back again. It was an absolute pleasure renting from such generous people. Thank you.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We stayed at this wonderful property for 5 days from end October to early November. We had only one gray day, otherwise crispy and sunny. The owners have anticipated one's every need. The location provides access to everything. Wellfleet is lovely. All in all, great!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It really was a slice of heaven kind of vacation made more so thanks to all of Toni's thoughtful suggestions (kayaking on Gull's pond and making our way into Higgins pond, walking over Tim's bridge into town, biking the Rail Trail, romantic dinners at the Wicked Oyster, lobsters from Mac's on our deck overlooking the harbor etc.) and the invaluable blue binder including Toni's Tops list! The home was just perfect in so many ways, the cleanest and best equipped rental home we've had the pleasure of enjoying and we've rented many. The views from every little corner so thoughtfully planned...I loved waking up and turning my head to look out the square window in the master and seeing boats gently bobbing in the bay (just like a painting) and catching site of the harbor reflected in the pretty tiled mirror while putting sunscreen on my face each morning. We envied the garden full of lavender, rose of sharon, daisies and so many other plants with which we were unfamiliar. My youngest 2 children loved their job of filling the birdfeeder each morning, washing out and refilling the birdbath and laughing at the red squirrel's attmpts to climb the feeder's pole. We used the binoculars to watch the birds and compare them to the North American Backyard bird watching card. My husband and I loved the bottles of wine you left for us and enjoyed them with the sunset from the deck as my youngest son colored us fabulous pictures with the supplies you left!! The rental kayak from Jack's was essential for the 2 girls' nightly forays over to Mac's for ice cream. And the finished downstairs was ideal for my teenager...her own space! I could go on forever, but will stop here. Until next year...Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Hi Toni! Just wanted to thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful house. It's such a beautiful, magical place. We had a fabulous time, and May turned out to be a great time for a vacation on the Cape! We loved walking into town on the path, exploring, and just enjoying the peace and quiet and spectacular views. I filled the bird bath and feeder so Anna (our 2 1/2 year old) and I enjoyed watching the many birds that visited us throughout the weekend (we also saw a little red squirrel, a bunny, and a hummingbird). Anna loved chasing crabs, running on the beach, and digging in the sand. Your house is such a great place for children of any age to have a true Cape Cod adventure! It was also great that you provided the pack-n-play, highchair, and some sand toys...it's nice not to have to lug all that stuff from home. All in all, a perfect time! We loved everything about your place and made some very happy memories there. We would love to return someday. Thanks again, renting from you was a wonderful experience! Take care- KellyRecommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

The water views go on forever and the ocean breeze in the evenings, the sea air, was a bit of paradise. We had a wonderful stay at "Fairwinds." The house is beautiful and also very comfortable, and well stocked with all the basic provisions. We gave the oyster shucker a particularly good workout. There were even beach toys for our two and half year old. We weren't sure how active we'd be with a toddler, but we found plenty of activities in the area. We all went kayaking on Gull Pond, we took a pontoon boat cruise of Nauset Marsh with a guide from the Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, we walked into downtown Wellfleet along the beach and over Uncle Tim's bridge, we went on bike rides, we gorged ourselves on seafood! Wish there was a way to transport Wellfleet a little closer to Chicago. Toni was great to deal with. She answered all our questions about what was available at the house, provided very thorough arrival instructions, and best of all, has put together a binder full of useful information about area activities, favorite restaurants, best seafood markets, how to get beach passes, etc.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

We had an amazing time at Fairwinds! The house is wonderful - full of light, great view of Wellfleet Harbor, funky artwork (loved the light switches!) - and had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable and relaxing. We were transfixed watching the tides, birds, and boats from the giant windows all throughout the day. The guidebooks and binoculars were a great addition. We already loved the town of Wellfleet and it was nice to be so close to everything (library, market, and my favorite, the Wicked Oyster). We also appreciated you checking when we arrived; it really made us feel welcome! I would absolutely recommend Fairwinds to anyone looking for a vacation rental on the Cape and am already looking forward to the next time I can stay there.Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: We fell in love with this house as renters, and found ourselves the owners in 1998. We love to use the house ourselves and have been able to place works of art in it from many of the places we've travelled. We don't let it get cluttered because we want others to feel that it is their home during their stay so we made it comfortable for families with kids, and relaxing and casually elegant for adults. I'm Toni. One of my favorite things is talking about Wellfleet, its joys and delights, and describing our house to share some of its pleasures.
Why the Owner Chose Wellfleet:
Oh, My Goodness. Anyone who knows Wellfleet knows the answer to this, but for those just coming to Wellfleet for the first time, it is a lovely town, with art galleries, fine dining for adults and excellent casual choices for families who come right from the beach. The Library is a wonderful place to go when it's raining and has programs for kids and a full schedule of lectures for adults. You can find 3 different types of swimming areas, the famous fresh-water Kettle Ponds, like Gull Pond, which are really sizable lakes, the Cape Cod Bay beach in front of our house, and all the ocean beaches which are a 5 minute drive away. The Cape Cod Bike Trail is nearby and you can walk to Town from the house along the shore, crossing the lovely wooden footbridge called Uncle Tim's Bridge.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Our house has a location which is extraordinary. It sits on a low bluff, overlooking Cape Cod Bay, Wellfleet Inner and Outer Harbors, Indian Neck, Great Island and Lieutenant's Island, so sunsets are not to be missed. We face due West and cocktails on the deck at sunset are our favorite time. We can swim, sail and kayak right in front of our house, but if you like fresh water, the Wellfleet Ponds are gorgeous. They are really fresh-water lakes, and some, five minutes from the house, are large lakes. And there's the ocean, the National Seashore, the Audobon Society, the Theater known as W.H.A.T. We love the local fish and shellfish, and being with family who rent other houses within a minute or two of us.
