We spent a few days in Owl Hill Cottage to prepare for the Big Sur Marathon. The hills were great for running, the gardens enchanting, the animals abundant (a bobcat one morning!). The owner was very helpful. We took many day trips from this central location. If you love privacy, this is the place for you.

Thanks so much for a blissful stay! The location was perfect: just far enough from town to feel removed, but close enough for easy access, on a pastoral lane full of emu, sheep, goats, horses and chickens. The cottage was super cute and perfectly equipped. Thanks again for all you did to make my stay so pleasant.

Owl Hill was a perfect choice for a family Christmas. We have family in Sebastopol and Petaluma so it was fun to host Christmas in our own cozy cottage (and then sleep in our own bed). Very cold outside so the fireplace was wonderful and with the well equipped kitchen and lots of extra chairs we were able to all gather for dinner. Grandkids found toys in every room and enjoyed walking the paths in the garden. The property is perfect for wandering, I would love to see the pond when it has water in it. Cozy beds and all the comforts of home. Great place to go wine tasting and lots of great restaurants around too. Surrounded by redwoods and about 30 minutes from the ocean, this would be a perfect spot for you to get the feeling of the real California.

This was our first time using VRBO and we could not have been more pleased. Owl Cottage is cozy and comfortable and perfect for anyone wanting a get-away from a busy life. And, it's perfectly located for exploring the beautiful countryside. The cottage is wonderful, tucked into the woods. We never saw another soul the entire time we were there, except for visitations from a doe and her fawn, we were alone in the woods. There is plenty of room to roam the gardens, explore the grounds and take walks down the lane. The kitchen is large and well equipped, which was perfect for us. Loved the hardwood floors. We were so comfortable here, it was truly like home only better. It was better than I expected and though we were only two I could see this for anyone with a family, there's plenty of room. We loved it. Thank you, Dawn. Lisa and Chris

My family of four from Colorado stayed at the Owl Hill cottage after a fast-paced week in San Francisco. I can't imagine a more perfect spot to slow down and relax. We hope to visit "our" cottage again next year.

Our stay at Owl Hill cottage was great in every way. A comfortable home away from home. We needed to have somewhere for his Aunt to make the wedding cake and this kitchen was perfect for it. Landscaping is beautiful and I wish I could have had time to just sit and enjoy it, maybe next time!

We loved our stay here at the Owl Hill Cottage. We're frequent vacation renters and this has been the most accommodating by far. My kids loved the toy cabinet. The grassy lawn was perfect for the kids to play on -we even set up a Easter Egg Hunt the day we arrived. This place is well cared for and loved. Easy access to town. Great rates...book early.

We called the Owl Hill Cottage our home away from home in mid March 2011. What a comfortable well stocked home! Beautiful yard and gardens, and oh the Redwoods! The sound of running water in the seasonal stream, and the scents of blossoms in the air were so soothing. Speaking of water the tap water is awesome. Yes we are water snobs from the north woods of Wisconsin and find city water and bottled water terrible tasting.. The location is great, we found ourselves heading west on Bodega Road, to head over to Freestone or Bodega for supplies to whip up gourmet meals in the fabulous kitchen. We have 5 and 8 year old boys and my brother along, and found the size of the owl Hill cottage to be just right. (A toy box in the yard kept the kids entertained when they were not exploring the great trails throughout the property.) For our family this is a MUST STAY AT, when in the Sebastopol area!

We rented this cottage over the Christmas holiday because it was so convenient (< 3 miles) to my son's home. Everything was as stated in the advertisement, from the pictures to the description. The fully equipped kitchen, the hardwood floors, the absolute silence at night were a real treat. The cable and WiFi were also a real plus. We will definitely plan to visit again in the very near future. We highly recommend it for its convenience to wineries, Hog Island Oysters in Marshall , Spud Point in Bodega Bay for crab, and K&L Bistro in Sebastopol (fabulous menu).

Three of us (in our 30's - early 40's) spent a week at the cottage. We were looking for a home base in which we could (road) bike during the days and relax in the evenings and we found it. The cottage had everything we needed. Lots of space to relax, a fully equipped kitchen to make hearty meals, comfortable beds and a nice shady deck. When we arrived, the previous renters mixed-up their check out dates and left a clogged toilet, but Dawn quickly fixed the issue and we were right on track within a few hours.

My family and I stayed here for a long weekend getaway. It was myself and my husband, our 16 month old son, and my in-laws. The house was perfect! My in-laws had a wonderful time, my son went bonkers for the toys, especially the antique fire truck. We made a wonderful dinner one night and ate out at great restaurants the other nights. We are looking forward to another stay again soon! Thanks Again, The Haileys

We traveled from Jasper National Park, where we live in Canada, with our 1 1/2 and 4 year old children to Sebastopol for the marriage ceremony of close friends and arrived feeling slightly harried and strained due to a long day of travel and uncertainty concerning our clothing preparations and the final finishes on a best man toast I was to make. But, as soon as we entered the clandestine, leafy hillside drive of this lovely house in the vine hills all pressure seemed to drain away. We walked through the door and found absolutely everything we needed - from an espresso machine and refreshingly chilled beer to an uncannily well-stocked kitchen brimming with an impressive store of gourmet cooking staples which made our brief, four-night stay not only convenient but wonderfully easy. Outside, beyond the sliding doors of the large dining room laid a privately luxuriant botanical haven replete with hummingbirds and dragonflies and a twelve-headed family of partridge that came quickly, if tentatively, waddling across the lush green grass each morning. Our children were impressed as well with the two large boxes of neatly tucked away toys and the abundance of colourfully exotic (to a Northerner's eye) birds which came to call on them each day. To be quite honest, we jokingly considered just sending a check for a half year's rent and abandoning our life in the Rockies for the charms of coastal California. This may seem like hyperbole, but we were quite honestly enchanted. Thank you, Dawn, it was much more than we ever expected. Warm regards, Brett, Sonja, Elias and Stella Grant

My partner, son and I stayed at Owl Hill cottage in 2009. My partner's "US family", including his first son Dillon, live in and around Santa Rosa. We found Owl Hill a peaceful retreat - amongst the charming Sebastopol community - close enough to Santa Rosa, but also a quiet and peaceful place with plenty of space. The property has a welcome level of seclusion but all the mod cons - from internet access and cable TV to toys for the kids. Two bathrooms are a welcome bonus for any family and the beds are big and comfy. The charming town of Sebastopol is just up the road and Bodega Bay is not far as well. It's more than well place for anyone wanting to visit the Napa Valley or the increasingly popular (at least in Australia) Sonoma Valley (certainly our preference). Food and wine options abound. We are coming back in 2011 for our biannual visit - we decided that as we'd had a memorable and happy stay last time that looking for an alternative this time around was a waste of time - we've booked Owl Hill for a week next April. This time, we'll have the full family (2 adults and 3 kids) and we know that not only will be have the privacy and space we need but also the practicalities will be taken care of. We highly recommend... Jane, Ian and family (from Sydney Australia)
