"Kate's Place" is a 4 Bedroom, 2 1/2 BA 1891 Victorian Cottage which has been meticulously restored & decorated to reflect it's unique heritage, within EZ walking distance to historic downtown Grass Valley. An excellent location for a romantic getaway, group gatherings, etc. We are confident you will enjoy the comfort & ambience of our lovely cottage on historic Kate Hayes St.

We have strived to maintain a comfortable environment for our guests with 4 bedrooms: 1 large Master with Cal King Bed, 1 Queen bedroom & 2 bedrooms with 2 twins each with superior quality linens, towels & amenities provided; formal dining room & breakfast nook; comfortable living room with satelite TV & video cassette/DVD player with video library; free local phone calls & free wireless hi-speed internet. Just bring your clothes & personal items & enjoy your stay. WHY STAY IN 2-4 B & B/HOTEL ROOMS WHEN YOU CAN RENT AN ENTIRE HOUSE FOR LESS THAN 1 OR 2 ROOMS?????????

There are numerous supermarkets nearby if you wish to utilize our gourmet equipped kitchen &/or BBQ area to prepare your own meals to enjoy in the formal dining room or breakfast nook. Professional Waffle & Ice Cream makers are available for your enjoyment. A Crock Pot for throwin' in the goodies in the AM & it'll be "cookin' while you're out cruisin'", with dinner ready when you return! Bring your favorite recipes or use one of ours, you'll love 'em & we've got a bunch with all the "how to" info necessary. We offer both gas & charcoal BBQs & outdoor seating/dining facilities in our lovely patio/gazebo garden area.

It's hard to know where to start when describing the almost endless activities available in Grass Valley/Nevada City & the surrounding area. We are approximately 1 hour drive to Sacramento or Lake Tahoe. Numerous excellent lakes, rivers & streams within minutes, wineries/wine tasting, museums, antique shops & specialty shops galore, walking tours, Empire Mine State Park (less than a mile), County fairgrounds activities, fly fishing, excellent local restaurants.

Drive up Hwy 49 thru Downieville & Sierra City & experience the beauty of the fall colors that rival (many say surpass!!!) the northeastern United States in their splendor. Additionally, there are more great restaurants & excellent picnic sites along the streams & rivers that flow alongside the highway.

Even snow play activities are nearby in the winter along with skiing less than an hour away.   • I am hesitant to write a true review because I am afraid if people find out how wonderful this house really is there will be no availability for me!!! We had the most amazing time in this beautiful home…Every detail was picture perfect! It felt like we were truly stepping back in time… with all the wonderful convinces of today. The owners of this home thought of everything including decadent shampoos and conditioners for their guests. We cannot wait to return.

  • I am still smiling as I remember our stay at Kates Place. We began each day with a walk for coffee and treats and ended our days by walking to many wonderful resturants for dinner glad to walk off the calories afterwards. Especially appreciated was the fridge stocked with cold beer and the wine cabinet, saving us a trip to the store after the long trip to get there. The kitchen is the best stocked of any we have seen and we used the fabulous waffle iron ( I am asking for one for Christmas) to make many bedtime treats. Thanks - Kates Place - for a special family vacation .

  • We recently enjoyed a reunion with dear friends at Kate's Place and it was a fabulous site for our gathering. The home is interesting and charming with a wonderfully equipped kitchen, lovely dishes for dining, comfortable conversation areas and flowers and garden areas to delight the eye. Our dinners on the patio were especially enjoyable surrounded by blooming roses and twinkling lights. Being close to the downtown area and the Empire Mine are an added bonus and we look forward to a return visit. Thank you.

  • We stayed at Kate's Place while attending a wedding in Grass Valley. We usually stay at vacation rentals when we travel and this one is a five star. The beds were very comfortable and the house was well equipped and beautifully decorated. We walked out the front door every morning and hiked the trails at Empire Mine State Park. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

  • We spent our Father's Day weekend in Grass Valley at Kate's Place. What a lovely and exquisitely decorated home in walking distance to the historic district. Accommodating 2 families of 5 each, we especially enjoyed the waffle maker on Sunday morning and the back patio for a special presentation for the dads. We look forward to returning next year!

  • What a lovely & beautifully decorated home. We had a wonderful time. Cooked almost all our meals in the great kitchen & covered BBQ area, right off of the kitchen. It was raining & snowing much of the time & although the snow was beautiful we weren't able to take a planned walk downtown which would have been lovely but other than that it was a perfect weekend for all of us, 4 couples. Very comfortable. 2/5-9/09

  • I stayed at Kate's Place from Aug 29-31, 2008 with my husband, daughter, and two other couples when we were in town for a wedding. We found Kate's Place to be spacious with all the comforts of home. The oversized couches and living room were perfect for allowing a group of old friends to catch up and spend some time together. The location was just a short walk from the main streets in Grass Valley and close to restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend Kate's Place to anyone staying in the area. The owners took great care in preparing this home for guests and you will not be disappointed by the warm hospitality it emits.

All the charm we would hope to find when visiting this beautiful area. Coffee out on the patio among the spectacular garden is the perfect way to start the day.   • We don't think we've ever slept in more comfortable beds. The home is so beautifully restored & decorated. We felt so at home. Everything we needed was there for our use. The patio & garden are lovely. It seemed the owners had anticipated almost all of our needs. The Grass Valley/Nevada City area is full of wonderful surprises & our visit & tour of the Empire Mine State Park was great fun. Thanks for your hospitality & we will be back.
