The Black Bear on the Wind River was formerly a motel. The property has been renovated into residental apartments. The VRBO apartment has new flooring, new appliances, and furniture too. Also, lots of outdoor furniture to relax on.
The motel is masonry construction, making it cooler in summer and warm in winter.
A short walk from the downtown shops, galleries, and restaurants, with a bank directly across the street, a laundry mat and grocery store just across the way. Because it was a motel there is a long driveway the kids can play on and ample parking for whatever vehicles you may drive.
A fire pit and the Wind River borders the property and ancient trees there create the atmosphere that you are miles from civilization. The joys of camping with a shower and bed too. The opposite border of the property is the main street of the town of Dubois (Ramshorn Drive).

- Charcoal BBQ Grill : The lower part of the property borders the Wind River and there is a fire pit to cook over with roasting sticks on site. We also have a Large charcoal grill for use by guests.
- Deck/Patio : Beautiful mountain views from the river front and even down the driveway. Swim in the river and play on the beach.

- Waterfront, not Lake/Oceanfront. Ask for details : The property is on the Wind River. Great fishing in Dubois, and it is right here on the property.
- Mountain View : Dubois is surrounded by several mountain ranges. The views are spectacular and just minutes from town there are hiking, biking, rockhounding, fishing, hunting, fly-fishing, and other activities galore. We can accomodate snowmobiling groups that come in droves to the mountains just minutes form Dubois.

- The Black Bear is in the center of town and on the Wind River. An outside firepit next to the water with picnic tables and chairs is perfect for cooking and relaxing.
- Suitability
- Pet Friendly : We welcome well behaved dogs, please contact us prior to arrival and NEVER leave your pet alone in the apartment. A non-refundable pet deposit of $50 applies. Sorry no cats allowed.
- Kid Friendly : We welcome kids, Dubois is a paradise for little ones. A great park with basketball and swings etc. only a few blocks away. It is ON the Wind River which can run very high, so little ones must be supervised.
- Minimum Age Limit for Renters : Minimum renter age limit is 21 years old.
- Smoking Not Allowed : The Black Bear on the Wind is a NON SMOKING property.

- Wyoming is a fly fisherman's and hunter's paradise. Rock hounds will love Dubois too, surrounded by glaciers the geological opportunites abound. There are many galleries and unique shops and restaurants to visit in Dubois, most all within walking distance from the apartment. If you are a mountain-biker or hiker, the area surrounding Dubois will be a slice of heaven to you. Snowmobiling paradise!
Rate Details (In US Dollars)
The Black Bear on the Wind rents weekly or monthly.
The apartment rents for 0-2 people $600/wk. 3-7 people $800
with a $100 non refundable cleaning fee.
A refundable deposit of $300 is credited once the maids confirm no damage is done.
Well behaved, trained dogs are allowed but must not be left alone in the apartment
Please contact us before you bring your pet. A $50 nonrefundable pet deposit.
Kids are always welcome at the Black Bear. Because of new fradulent requests
the Bear will not forward any $ to anywhere & will prosecute fake check writers.

Year Purchased: 1985

My husband Dave has a refrigerator magnet that reads:
"I wasn't born in the mountains but I got here as fast as I could."
That about sums up the reason we are working to keep the motel. His parents purchased it as a retirement project and we came from Colorado every chance we could to help paint, fix-up, lay carpet, plant flowers; whatever needed done when his folks ran it. The Black Bear is our kid's (now 18, 17, and 15)second home. We all think of it as one of our favorite places on the planet. When Dave's parents retired from motel work and moved in with us (on our request) we hired managers to run it for us. Long story short it didn't work out so well so we are once again working very hard to paint, fix-back-up, lay tile, all the many things it needed so that we can keep it in the family and enjoy Dubois for many years to come. Dave's sister and brother-in-law love the place too and we have all spent nearly every 4th of July there for the last 20 years. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do.
The Unique Benefits of this Apartment
For our children's whole life we have enjoyed the close proximity to Yellowstone and Teton National Parks. We have spent many wonderful days rock hounding for petrified wood and fossils, just to name a few of the great finds around the area. The small town atmosphere is terrific and there isn't a better place to be in the USA on the 4th of July. Great parade, fireworks, BBQs etc. As they have grown up they now spend their Dubois days on their bikes tearing around the town, so much to see and do there. Galleries, great shops, terrific restaurants (The Cowboy is their hands down favorite), many geological treasures right near town. Then there is the fire pit by the river that bubbles (sometimes boils) by the back of the property. We have shared thousands of meals there with friends and family over the years. We LOVE Dubois! Daily swims, and wading in the river and they have made a shallow wading area with rocks expertly placed around the edges. Great for rubber ducky races too.
